It adds solar charging, Bluetooth smartphone linking and Multiband 6 time calibration, while keeping to conventional digital-watch functions. Casio announced the model in December 2023 and scheduled its release for January 19, 2024; this guide covers the manufacturer’s published specifications, not hands-on testing.
What makes the MRG-B5000R-1 different?
The MRG-B5000R-1 takes its outline from the first G-SHOCK square and applies materials and construction associated with Casio’s MR-G line. The distinction is primarily in how the case and bezel are made and finished, rather than in a departure from the square digital-watch format. Casio describes the design as a reinterpretation of the original square: Casio Europe’s product description.
A multi-part titanium bezel
Casio specifies Ti64 titanium for the case and bezel components, with a COBARION top on the bezel. The bezel comprises 25 individually polished parts. Casio says COBARION is “four times harder than pure titanium”; that comparison applies to the material as described by the manufacturer, not to the hardness or durability of the complete watch.
Casio also describes a Multi-Guard Structure that uses flat springs and silicone buffers around the multi-component bezel to absorb shock. A gold-plated retainer plate protects the circuit board. These are construction details in Casio’s product description, not independent test results.

Dial and band details
The dial’s gold-colored brick pattern and circular lines refer to a color option of the original DW-5000C-1B, while the case is black DLC-coated. The band is Dura Soft fluoro rubber, not a titanium bracelet. Insert-moulded titanium components reinforce its connection to the case; a one-touch three-fold clasp is designed for attachment and removal. Casio also points to “SHOCK RESIST” motifs on the band’s top and a brick pattern on its underside. Details are on Casio’s G-SHOCK product page.
What are the MRG-B5000R-1’s size and weight?
Casio Europe lists dimensions of 49.4 × 43.2 × 12.9 mm and a weight of 103 g. Those figures help compare the watch’s physical footprint with other models, but do not by themselves establish how it will fit or feel on a particular wrist. What functions does it have?
The watch combines solar power and Bluetooth smartphone linking with radio time calibration and standard digital-watch tools. Casio lists these features on its official product page.
- Timekeeping: Multiband 6 radio reception and five world times selected from 39 cities.
- Timing: A 1/100-second stopwatch and countdown timer.
- Alarms: Five daily alarms.
- Lighting: Full-auto LED illumination with Super Illuminator.
- Durability and power: Shock-resistant construction, 200 m water resistance and solar power.
- Smartphone Link: Bluetooth connection to the CASIO WATCHES app.
Casio says the app can handle automatic time adjustment, watch settings and world-time settings for about 300 locations. It also lists watch-status display, self-check, time-and-place logging, up to five reminders and phone finder. These are app-linked tools; they do not make the MRG-B5000R-1 a general-purpose smartwatch, and the listed functions do not establish that it receives phone notifications.

Is the MRG-B5000R-1 water resistant?
Yes. Casio rates it for 200 m water resistance. That is the manufacturer’s stated rating; follow Casio’s guidance for use and care rather than treating the rating as a guarantee for every activity or condition.
Is the MRG-B5000R-1 worth it?
That depends on what you want from a square G-SHOCK and the price, warranty and service support available where you buy it. Its case and bezel construction, COBARION top, finishing and MR-G design are the central reasons to consider it; its fluoro-rubber band and familiar digital functions make clear that the premium-material approach does not turn it into a metal-bracelet watch or a feature-rich smartwatch.

Compare it with alternatives using the factors that matter to you: case and bezel materials, band and clasp, dimensions and weight, solar charging, radio calibration, app functions and water-resistance rating. No current regional price or comparable alternative pricing is established here, so a value verdict would require checking live local listings and support terms.
