The Garmin Enduro 2 remains a capable endurance watch for ultrarunning, hiking and long-course racing, but its 2022 design is no longer the newest option. It makes sense when you find it at a substantial discount and want its 51 mm sapphire-and-solar package, maps, flashlight and multiband GPS. At a similar price, Garmin’s newer Enduro 3 is the stronger buy on current listed pricing and battery specifications.
What is the Garmin Enduro 2?
The Enduro 2 is a premium GPS multisport watch built around long activities and time away from a charger. It combines solar-assisted battery life with multiband GNSS, SatIQ, built-in maps, training metrics, music storage, Garmin Pay and an LED flashlight. Garmin announced it on August 9, 2022, at a suggested retail price of $1,099.99; that launch price is not a verified current street price. Garmin’s launch announcement and product specifications describe the original product.
Its intended buyer is an outdoor athlete who values long recording time, readable-in-sunlight navigation and physical controls more than a vivid screen or phone-like communication. It can also serve as a general smartwatch, but endurance sport and navigation are its central strengths.
How long does the battery last, and what does solar add?
Garmin’s owner’s manual lists the following maximum estimates. Solar figures assume exposure to 50,000 lux; smartwatch and Expedition GPS solar estimates also assume all-day wear with three hours outdoors per day. GPS solar estimates assume use in 50,000-lux conditions. They are not promises of typical use. Garmin’s battery-mode table and notes explain the assumptions.

Solar is best understood as battery-life extension, not freedom from USB charging. Indoor wear, shade, cloud, winter daylight, high latitudes, sleeves over the watch face, continuous multiband GPS, music, frequent backlight use, connected sensors, notifications and power-intensive sensors can all reduce the benefit. Garmin also notes that battery life varies with enabled features, including wrist heart rate, phone notifications, GPS and connected sensors. If you spend most days indoors or cover the watch while outdoors, the solar headline figures are a poor forecast for your experience.
How good are its GPS and navigation features?
The Enduro 2 supports multiple satellite systems, multiband GNSS and SatIQ, which manages positioning modes to balance tracking needs and power use. It also includes TopoActive maps, ski resort maps, NextFork guidance, breadcrumb navigation and course guidance. These tools suit trail runners, hikers and racers who want route context on the wrist rather than just a line to follow. Garmin lists mapping and navigation capabilities on the Enduro 2 product page.
More demanding positioning modes use more battery. Garmin rates GPS-only operation at up to 110 hours, all satellite systems at up to 78 hours, and all systems with multiband at up to 68 hours before solar assistance. SatIQ helps manage that trade-off, but no setting can guarantee both maximum precision and maximum endurance in every activity.

What training and health features does it offer?
For endurance athletes, the watch includes Trail Run VO2 Max, grade-adjusted pace, training readiness and status, training-load and recovery metrics, race and training tools, climb-related metrics, multisport profiles and ultra-run support. It also tracks sleep score and insights, Body Battery, stress, respiration and Pulse Ox, subject to regional availability.
These are wellness and training features, not medical diagnoses. Garmin says the watch is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose or monitor medical conditions. Pulse Ox availability can vary by country. Garmin’s product information includes its product qualifications.
Is the display and design comfortable for everyday wear?
The physical size is the first fit question: the case measures 51 × 51 × 15.6 mm. Garmin lists the watch at 70 g overall with the band and 64 g for the case alone. That is light for a watch of this size, but it is not a small or unobtrusive watch; it may bother small-wristed users, catch on clothing cuffs or feel bulky during sleep.

- MULTIPLE TAPE INCLUDES: Garmin's Enduro 2 comes with both an UltraFit Nylon Strap and QuickFit Silicone Band, so you can wear it on any occasion.
- SUN CHARGED BATTERY: Get up to 34 days of battery life in smartwatch mode - another 12 days when solar energy is charged - for a seamless view of your health and well-being.
- MADE FOR EXTREMES: The robust, sophisticated and lightweight design features a large screen with 1.4" solar charging and a 51mm case with sapphire lens.
- TOUCH SCREEN AND BUTTONS: Traditional button controls running in any environment, are paired with a responsive new touchscreen interface for quick access to selections and functions.
- PERFORMANCE METRICS: View advanced training metrics including running dynamics, heat and altitude, VO2 max, trail running adjustment, rescue advisor, and more.
The 1.4-inch, 280 × 280-pixel Power Sapphire display uses sunlight-visible transflective MIP technology rather than AMOLED. MIP is practical outdoors, low-power and always visible without the same battery burden as an always-on AMOLED screen. In exchange, colors and contrast are less vivid, and the 280-pixel resolution looks modest beside current high-resolution smartwatch displays. The solar construction can also affect the display’s appearance. Physical buttons work well in rain, cold or with gloves; the touchscreen offers another way to navigate menus.
The materials include a titanium bezel, a fiber-reinforced polymer case and a sapphire lens, which is highly scratch-resistant but does not make the watch immune to impact damage. Garmin supplies a lightweight UltraFit nylon hook-and-loop band, rates the watch at 10 ATM, and lists compatibility with 26 mm QuickFit bands. Its stated wrist circumference is 110–220 mm with the sport loop and 127–210 mm with the silicone band. Garmin’s specifications provide the dimensions and fit details. The 10 ATM rating is a pressure rating, not a guarantee that every exposure—such as a hot tub, sauna or rapid temperature change—is appropriate.
Which smart and safety features work without a phone?
The Enduro 2 supports phone notifications, Garmin Pay and music storage, including downloads from supported services where available. Incident detection, Assistance and LiveTrack are different: they depend on a compatible paired phone, relevant setup and conditions such as network availability and regional support. The watch has no built-in cellular or satellite messaging, so it is not a standalone emergency communicator. Garmin describes the conditional safety features on its product page.

- Power Glass solar charging lens harvests the sun’s energy, giving you more power and time between charges
- Power manager and battery saver modes allow you to toggle sensors on and off to extend battery life on the run
- Rugged, lightweight design features an always-on 1.4” display and steel or DLC-coated titanium bezel, buttons and rear case
- Trail run VO2 max tracks your cardiovascular fitness level and adjusts based on trail conditions
- Ultrarun activity with rest timer allows you to log your time spent at aid stations
Enduro 2 vs. Enduro 3: which should you buy?
The Enduro 3 is the more compelling default if prices are close. Garmin’s current comparison lists the Enduro 3 at $899.99, below the Enduro 2’s original $1,099.99 launch MSRP, and gives the newer model substantially higher solar battery estimates. Garmin’s listed figures are maximum estimates under specified conditions, not directly guaranteed real-world results. Garmin’s Enduro comparison provides the model specifications; its Enduro 3 announcement gives launch details.
| Feature | Enduro 2 | Enduro 3 |
|---|---|---|
| Generation | Announced 2022 | Announced 2024 |
| Official price signal | $1,099.99 launch MSRP in 2022; current Enduro 2 price not established here | $899.99 listed price |
| Smartwatch battery | Up to 34 days | Up to 36 days |
| Smartwatch battery with solar | Up to 46 days | Up to 90 days |
| GPS battery with solar | Up to 150 hours | Up to 320 hours |
| Display | Solar MIP | Solar MIP |
| Maps, flashlight and multiband GPS | Yes | Yes |
| ECG listed by Garmin | No | Yes |
Garmin lists the Enduro 3 at 63 g in its launch materials and describes it as having a more efficient solar lens. The Enduro 2 remains worth considering if its actual price is meaningfully lower and its feature set meets your needs. Garmin’s official sources do not establish a current Enduro 2 street price, so compare the specific seller’s price, condition, warranty and return policy rather than treating its launch MSRP as today’s value.

Garmin fēnix 8 Solar
Consider the fēnix 8 Solar if you want a newer premium Garmin platform with a broader feature set and multiple configurations. It does not match the Enduro 3’s headline endurance figures, and price and specifications vary by configuration. Garmin’s fēnix and Enduro comparison shows the available models.

Garmin fēnix 8 AMOLED
This is a better direction if display quality and more smartwatch-like functions matter more than maximum time between charges. Garmin lists the 47 mm AMOLED model at $999.99 and up, with up to 16 days of smartwatch battery life depending on display settings. Supported models add speaker and microphone functions. The AMOLED screen and newer smart features are the trade for less endurance than the Enduro line. See Garmin’s comparison page.
Garmin Instinct
An Instinct model may suit buyers who want a simpler rugged watch and long battery life but do not need the Enduro 2’s built-in maps, premium materials or advanced endurance-training package. It is a simpler alternative, not a direct equivalent.
Apple Watch or Wear OS watch
These platforms are generally a better match for people who prioritize apps, calls, messaging and bright displays. They are less suited to readers whose priority is multi-day GPS recording or extended time away from charging. Battery performance varies by model and software, so a meaningful figure-by-figure comparison needs a specific model.
Who should buy the Enduro 2?
It is a good fit if
- You regularly record activities lasting many hours or multiple days.
- You want maps, multiband GPS, a flashlight and an outdoor-readable display in one watch.
- You prefer buttons and MIP battery efficiency to an AMOLED screen.
- You find it substantially cheaper than the Enduro 3 and are comfortable buying a 2022-generation device.
Look elsewhere if
- You have a small wrist or dislike thick, large watches.
- You want a vivid display, voice calling or voice messaging.
- You need the newest health sensors or want the latest Garmin platform.
- Your typical workouts are short and you will not use its long battery life or mapping.
- The Enduro 2 is priced near or above the Enduro 3’s $899.99 listed price.
For a used, refurbished or clearance unit, confirm the seller’s reputation, warranty and return policy. Inspect the screen, charging contacts and band, and ask about battery condition and proof of ownership where applicable.

Garmin’s November 2025 software-update material still lists the Enduro 2 among devices receiving some updates, but that does not establish feature parity with newer watches or promise a specific future support period. Garmin’s update document is evidence of updates listed there, not a long-term support guarantee.
