Garmin’s November 18, 2025 feature update adds Health Status to selected smartwatches and introduces several riding tools for compatible Garmin Edge computers. It is not one identical package for every Garmin device: eligibility, app access and sensor requirements vary by model.
Garmin began the free rollout on November 18 and said distribution would continue over the following weeks. Check your specific model rather than assuming that announcement-day availability applied to every watch or region.

What Garmin actually updated
Garmin grouped three separate changes under its November 2025 update:
- Smartwatch health feature: Health Status, which compares selected overnight metrics with your normal range.
- Edge cycling features: fueling prompts, weather overlays, Power Guide improvements, gear-ratio analysis and richer GroupRide comparisons.
- Garmin Connect+ feature: 3D topographic maps, which require a paid Connect+ subscription and are not part of the free firmware package.

Which Garmin watches are covered?
The headline families named by Garmin are Venu X1, vívoactive 6, fēnix 8, Forerunner 570 and Forerunner 970. Garmin’s matrix also includes additional and older families, such as fēnix 8 Pro, Enduro 3, tactix 8, quatix 8, D2 Mach 2, Venu 3, vívoactive 5, Forerunner 255/955/165/265/965, fēnix 7-series watches, epix Gen 2, MARQ Gen 2, Enduro 2 and selected Instinct models.
Those names do not mean every device receives every function. The matrix distinguishes between features shown directly on a watch, features delivered through Garmin Connect, features a model already had and related notification or control changes. Use it to check the exact model and feature combination.
Health Status: what it shows
Health Status looks at selected sleep-related readings and flags when they trend outside your usual range. Garmin lists:

Garmin says deviations can be associated with physical activity, environmental changes, stress, alcohol or potential illness. The feature is intended as a personal-baseline trend indicator, not a diagnosis or medical monitoring system. A change does not prove that you are ill or overtrained; consider context and seek professional advice for health concerns.

What the new Edge cycling features do
Smart Fueling Alerts
On compatible Edge computers, prompts can recommend carbohydrate intake in grams and water in milliliters during a ride. Garmin bases recommendations on current fitness, course demands, heat and humidity. Garmin describes the feature for use with Power Guide or while following a workout, so it is not a universal free-ride prompt on every Edge.

Real-time weather overlays
Compatible units can display radar and wind-direction overlays while you ride. This requires a compatible smartphone running with Garmin Connect; the Edge alone cannot supply the connected weather data.
Power Guide enhancements
When paired with a compatible power meter, Power Guide can use real-time stamina and wind to refine target recommendations. For mountain rides or races, Garmin also says altitude acclimation can be considered.
Gear Ratio Analysis
After a ride, a compatible Edge paired with electronic shifting can show how much time you spent in each gear ratio. Without supported electronic shifting, this analysis is unavailable.

GroupRide comparisons
During a compatible group ride, riders can compare speed, cadence, heart rate, power and watts per kilogram with group averages or other riders. The visible comparisons depend on which sensors and connected data each rider supplies.
Free firmware versus Garmin Connect+
Garmin separately announced 3D topographic maps for Garmin Connect+ subscribers. The maps can be used with recorded activities, custom courses and individual trails in Garmin Trails. Connect+ is a paid app tier; Garmin’s free November software update does not include those maps. Garmin’s announcement and product page do not establish a current price here, so check the plan page for your country before subscribing.

- On the watch or Edge, enable automatic software updates if that option is available.
- Pair the device with Garmin Connect and synchronize it over a reliable phone connection.
- Install any offered update and keep the device charged until the process finishes.
- If the update does not appear in Garmin Connect, connect the device to a computer and check it with Garmin Express.
Garmin’s wearables software-update hub provides the current support route. Rollout timing can differ by model, region and device configuration.

If a promised feature is missing
- Confirm eligibility: Look up the exact model and feature in Garmin’s matrix; “compatible Garmin watch” is not a single category.
- Allow for staged rollout: Garmin announced a multi-week distribution, so a delayed offer does not automatically indicate a failed installation.
- Check where the feature lives: Some models receive Health Status in Garmin Connect rather than directly on the watch.
- Verify the phone connection: Weather overlays require a compatible smartphone and Garmin Connect.
- Check sensors: Power Guide needs a power meter, Gear Ratio Analysis needs compatible electronic shifting, and some GroupRide comparisons need power and/or heart-rate sensors.
- Check regional limits: Pulse Ox availability varies by country, and skin-temperature readings depend on watch hardware.
- Sync again or use Garmin Express: A fresh synchronization can expose an update that has already been staged for your device.
Who benefits most?
For watch owners, the meaningful addition is Health Status: it provides another way to notice changes from an individual sleep-related baseline. It is most useful when you already wear the watch consistently and understand its readings as trends rather than diagnoses.
For cyclists, the update matters most when an Edge computer is used with structured workouts, a power meter, electronic shifting, compatible sensors or GroupRide. A watch owner without an eligible model, and a casual cyclist without the required accessories, should not expect every announced feature to appear.
