Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Google did not announce a Pixel Watch beta program in July 2023. Instead, 9to5Google found the label “Wear OS Beta Program” and two first-generation Pixel Watch entries in the source code of Google’s Android Beta for Pixel website. That is credible evidence of planned web support, but not proof that consumers could enroll.
The most likely target was Wear OS 4, which Google had announced shortly beforehand. As of August 18, 2026, Google’s public beta page visibly offers Android 17 Beta for eligible Pixel phones, not a Wear OS enrollment track.
What Google’s page source revealed
On July 6, 2023, 9to5Google reported that Google’s Android Beta for Pixel webpage source included the label “Wear OS Beta Program” alongside two device categories:
- Google Pixel Watch Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi
- Google Pixel Watch 4G LTE + Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi
The finding came from the HTML and associated page data, not from a Google blog post, press release, or support article. It shows that Google’s beta-site infrastructure had watch-specific references. It does not show whether the interface was enabled, being tested internally, accidentally published, or ready for public enrollment.

9to5Google’s original report is therefore best read as evidence of preparation, rather than an announcement.
Was this an official Pixel Watch beta announcement?
No. The references appeared on an official Google-owned webpage, but Google did not publish the information as a product announcement. No public documentation established:
- a start date or rollout schedule;
- supported countries or Google account requirements;
- the software version being tested;
- an enrollment button that ordinary users could use;
- whether participation would be open, limited, or invite-only;
- a build number, rollback method, or factory-reset requirement; or
- support for watches beyond the two first-generation connectivity variants.
The precise description is: official source evidence, but not an official product announcement.

Why Wear OS 4 was the obvious—but unconfirmed—candidate
Google announced Wear OS 4 at I/O 2023, while the original Pixel Watch was still running Wear OS 3.5. That timing made a Wear OS 4 preview the most plausible explanation for the new page entries. Contemporary coverage, including Android Authority’s analysis, treated Wear OS 4 as an inference rather than a confirmed designation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsGoogle’s announced Wear OS 4 changes included faster and more reliable text-to-speech, transferring data and settings between watches, and battery-related improvements associated with the Watch Face Format and power optimizations. Those were platform announcements, not a guaranteed feature list for an unconfirmed Pixel Watch beta.
How enrollment would probably have worked
The expected model would have resembled Google’s phone beta process:
Rank #3
- The Google Pixel Watch 4 is a stunning display of precision craftsmanship, with Gemini, your built-in AI assistant, Google’s longest-lasting battery, and comprehensive tools for next-level health and fitness performance[1,2,3,4]
- See it all and do the most with the Actua 360 domed display; it’s 10% larger and 50% brighter than Pixel Watch 3, and as durable as ever with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass[1]
- The Google Pixel Watch 4 has Gemini built in[4]; just ask questions and your ultra capable AI assistant will deliver quick responses for personalized help; and stay connected when you’re texting with AI-powered quick replies that are hyper-relevant[5,6]
- Get up to 30 hours of battery life or up to 48 hours in Battery Saver mode[3]; plus, the new side charging dock gives you 15 hours of battery in 15 minutes or less[7]
- Train smarter with 40+ exercise modes and real-time stats on your wrist[8]; and with high-precision dual-frequency GPS, you get more accurate route tracking on runs and hikes[1]
- Sign in at the Google Android Beta site with the account associated with the device.
- Review the devices Google marks as eligible.
- Select the Pixel Watch and choose an “Opt in” control.
- Receive the preview as an over-the-air update.
Google’s current Android Beta page describes that general account-and-device eligibility model and says enrolled devices receive beta updates automatically. However, no verified historical walkthrough for a Pixel Watch beta was published, so these steps should not be presented as a confirmed watch procedure.
What the evidence did—and did not—establish
| Question | What is established |
|---|---|
| Was “Wear OS Beta Program” found in Google’s site data? | Yes. 9to5Google reported the phrase on July 6, 2023. |
| Which devices were named? | The original Pixel Watch in Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi and 4G LTE plus Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi configurations. |
| Was the beta officially announced? | No. |
| Was it definitely a Wear OS 4 beta? | No. Wear OS 4 was the most plausible interpretation, not a verified label. |
| Was a public watch beta definitely launched? | That is not established by the available evidence. |
| Were Pixel Watch 2, 3, 4, or later models included? | Not stated by the reported source entries. |
Why page-source discoveries need caution
Website source can contain future placeholders, feature flags, localization strings, disabled controls, shared templates, and internal experiments. A device name in that code can indicate preparation without indicating that the service is live.
Nor is an Android phone beta automatically a Wear OS beta. Watch software depends on watch hardware, the paired phone, Google Play components, manufacturer-specific layers, and watch-specific update and rollback systems. A Pixel Watch owner could not assume that joining an Android 14, 15, 16, or 17 phone preview would install a corresponding watch build.

- Google Pixel Watch has a beautiful circular, domed design and new experience with Wear OS by Google, so it’s easy to get help at a glance
- Stay on top of activity, calories burned, and more with Fitbit activity tracking
- Track your heart rate and get insight into your sleep

The likely risks of a genuine watch beta
Google’s general beta warnings are relevant context, although they do not prove that identical terms applied to this never-confirmed program. A pre-release watch build could cause:
- shorter battery life or charging problems;
- failures involving notifications, Bluetooth, calls, payments, health tracking, or location;
- incompatibility with third-party apps and watch faces;
- unstable communication with the companion phone;
- delayed, failed, or interrupted updates; and
- loss of locally stored data when leaving a program or restoring the watch.
Anyone relying on a watch for health features, payments, exercise records, or dependable notifications should treat those as practical risks rather than theoretical footnotes.

| Date | Development |
|---|---|
| May 2023 | Google announced Wear OS 4 at I/O. |
| June 2023 | Samsung began testing Wear OS 4-based software for Galaxy Watches, providing context for possible industry testing. |
| July 6, 2023 | The “Wear OS Beta Program” label and two original Pixel Watch variants were found in Google’s beta-site source. |
| July 10, 2023 | Follow-up coverage said Wear OS 4 for Pixel Watch appeared closer, while the beta remained unconfirmed. |
| October 2023 | Google said the original Pixel Watch would receive stable Wear OS 4 later that year; 9to5Google noted the earlier beta references had never been officially confirmed. |
| June 2026 | Google described Wear OS 7 rolling out to eligible Pixel Watch devices without a visibly listed public watch-beta signup on its Android Beta page. |
Current status in 2026
The 2023 report is historical, not a current launch announcement. The current Google Android Beta page, in August 2026, presents Android 17 Beta 1 for eligible Pixel devices and does not visibly list a Wear OS enrollment program. Google’s June 2026 Wear OS announcement discusses the rollout of Wear OS 7, not a public Pixel Watch preview track.

- The Google Pixel Watch 3 is designed for performance, with advanced fitness from Fitbit[1,2]; the 45mm screen is twice as bright and 40% larger than before, making it easier to see your stats and info[1]

That does not prove Google has never run any private or limited watch testing. It does mean there is no clearly documented public program established by the evidence here.
Should you buy a Pixel Watch for beta access?
No. Do not purchase a Pixel Watch on the assumption that it unlocks early Wear OS software. Choose one for its hardware, Fitbit integration, Pixel ecosystem features, and stable-update support. If you need a predictable daily wearable, remain on the stable channel and use Google’s official update and support pages.
For pairing and update troubleshooting, Google’s Pixel Watch support documentation is the appropriate starting point. The Android Beta signup page should not be treated as a confirmed route to watch enrollment.
