Google announced the Pixel Watch 3 on August 13, 2024, adding a 45mm case alongside the 41mm model. The often-quoted $349.99 starting price was for the 41mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi version; the new 45mm model started at $399.99. Both sizes also launched with optional LTE, and the watch went on sale September 10, 2024.
Pixel Watch 3 is an Android smartwatch, not an iPhone-compatible Apple Watch alternative. Check Google’s compatibility requirements before buying, especially if you plan to use LTE.

Prices can change with sales, stock, and location. A Google Store U.S. configurator snapshot observed for this article displayed the 41mm LTE configuration from $349.99 and the 45mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi configuration from $299.99; those were time-sensitive store prices, not launch MSRP or guaranteed current checkout prices. Check the Google Store configurator for the selected size, connection, color, and delivery location.
What the 45mm model changes
The 45mm version was the first larger case size in the Pixel Watch line. Its round design remains familiar, but the larger screen gives notifications, maps, workout information, and watch-face details more room. That can make the interface easier to read and tap if the 41mm display feels cramped; the software is not a separate platform exclusive to the larger watch.
Google’s Store fit guidance lists approximate wrist circumferences of 130–210mm for the 41mm model and 150–215mm for the 45mm. These ranges overlap, so diameter alone does not determine fit: wrist shape, case feel, and band choice matter. The 45mm is physically larger and may be less comfortable or visually dominant on a smaller wrist. Google’s configurator provides the size guidance.
The 45mm model also cost $50 more than the equivalent 41mm configuration at launch, whether comparing Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE. Its case takes a larger band size, so owners of a 41mm Pixel Watch should verify that a particular band is listed as compatible rather than assuming it will fit. Check the official specifications and accessory listings for a specific band.

Battery and charging: capacity is not runtime
Google said the 45mm Pixel Watch 3 battery was 35% larger than the battery in the previous Pixel Watch generation. That is a capacity comparison, not a promise that the 45mm lasts 35% longer in everyday use. The larger model also has a larger display, and actual runtime depends on settings and use.
Google’s battery estimates are conditional; always-on display, GPS workouts, LTE use away from a phone, sleep tracking, weak signal, and frequent interaction can all affect how often the watch needs charging. Review the conditions on Google’s battery and technical support page rather than treating an estimate as guaranteed real-world endurance.

Google separately said the 41mm model’s charging system was 20% faster, saving up to 15 minutes on a full charge. That stated improvement applies to charging, not battery capacity or all-day runtime.
Planning around sleep tracking
If you want overnight sleep tracking, charging becomes part of the routine: top up when you are not wearing the watch, such as while getting ready or showering. LTE and GPS-heavy workouts can make it harder to rely on a fixed charging schedule, so allow for variation rather than planning around a best-case estimate.

Choose based on whether you need the watch connected when your phone is not nearby. Bluetooth/Wi-Fi is the lower-cost launch configuration and is suitable when the phone usually comes along. The watch can handle notifications, fitness tracking, payments, and phone-assisted connectivity without its own cellular line.
LTE can keep supported functions connected away from the paired phone, including calls, messages, maps, music, and some safety features. It can suit phone-free runs or workouts, but it is not free cellular service: the LTE hardware cost more at launch, and carrier activation may add a recurring charge. Google requires pairing with a phone and activation through a compatible carrier; availability and performance vary by country, carrier, coverage, and signal. Confirm eligibility with Google’s support documentation and your carrier before paying for LTE.
Fitness features and Google services
Pixel Watch 3 combines Fitbit-focused health and activity tools with Google’s smartwatch services. Google highlighted heart-rate and sleep tracking, workout and running metrics, GPS activity tracking, and training or recovery-related guidance. Maps, Wallet, Assistant, and music controls add everyday smartwatch functions, with availability depending on the feature and configuration.
These tools are for wellness and fitness, not a substitute for medical advice. Feature access can vary by country, account, compatible phone, and subscription; check the terms for any Fitbit feature you intend to use. The Google Store product page describes the watch’s services and feature positioning.

Which size should you choose?
Choose 41mm for a more compact watch
- You prefer a smaller case or have a wrist on which the 45mm feels too large.
- The 41mm screen is easy enough for you to read and use.
- You want the lowest launch price, or do not need the larger model’s battery capacity and display.
Choose 45mm for a larger display
- You prefer large watches or want more room for notifications, maps, workouts, and text.
- You value the larger battery capacity and accept that it does not guarantee proportionally longer runtime.
- The larger case and $50 launch premium over the corresponding 41mm connectivity option work for you.
Try to judge comfort as well as screen size: a bigger display is useful only if the case sits comfortably on your wrist.
Pixel Watch 3 versus other watches
Pixel Watch 2
Pixel Watch 3’s clearest advantages are the new 45mm option, its larger usable display, the 45mm battery capacity, and newer fitness and software features. Pixel Watch 2 may be the better value if it is substantially cheaper and its size and core Wear OS experience already meet your needs. Compare actual prices rather than relying on either model’s original MSRP; a performance advantage should not be assumed without a verified test.
Samsung Galaxy Watch
Galaxy Watch models may suit Samsung phone owners or people invested in Samsung Health, while Pixel Watch 3 is the more natural match for Pixel phones, Fitbit, and Google services. Compare specific models at similar prices and sizes; capabilities and phone-dependent features differ across the Galaxy Watch range. See Samsung’s watch lineup for current models.
Garmin
Garmin is worth considering if multi-day endurance, outdoor activity, and sports-focused training are more important than Google apps, LTE, and a rich Wear OS experience. The feature sets and form factors differ, so compare a specific Garmin model against the Pixel Watch 3 for your sport and phone use. Garmin lists its options on its smartwatch page.
Who should buy the Pixel Watch 3?
Pixel Watch 3 is most compelling for Android users who want Google services and Fitbit-oriented fitness features, particularly if they want the larger 45mm screen. Choose the 41mm if compactness matters more; choose LTE only if phone-free connectivity is useful enough to justify compatible-carrier activation and possible ongoing service charges. If you already have a Pixel Watch 2 that fits your needs, compare its current replacement cost with the practical value of a larger screen, greater 45mm battery capacity, and newer features before upgrading.
