Verdict: The Google Pixel Watch 4 is one of the strongest Android smartwatches for Pixel owners. Its brighter domed display, longer battery life, faster charging, dual-frequency GPS, repairable construction, Wear OS 6 and useful Gemini controls make it a substantial refinement. It is not a multi-day fitness watch, its health accuracy is not class-leading for serious athletes, and some of the best coaching features depend on a paid Google Health/Fitbit plan.

Design: familiar, attractive and finally more serviceable
The Pixel Watch 4 keeps Google’s compact, circular, jewellery-like design rather than copying a miniature phone. The case is 100% recycled aluminium, covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and measures 12.3mm thick in both sizes. The 41mm weighs 31.0g without a band; the 45mm weighs 36.7g.
It is comfortable and distinctive, but not especially thin. The new glass dome rises farther over the edges, which makes the screen feel larger and improves edge legibility. It can also make the watch feel thicker and takes some adjustment when swiping near the curve.

Water resistance is rated to 50 metres. Independent specification coverage also lists IP68, but water resistance is not a promise that the watch is suitable for every diving or high-pressure-water situation.
Repairability is a meaningful change
Google says the redesigned rear structure allows official servicing, including replacement of the battery and display. That is a better long-term design than treating the watch as disposable. “Serviceable” does not mean user-repairable or inexpensive, however: repair availability, parts, pricing, warranty effects and post-repair water sealing depend on country and authorised service channels.
Display: the most obvious upgrade over the Pixel Watch 3
The Actua 360 panel reaches up to 3,000 nits, has a 10% larger active area and 16% smaller bezels than the previous generation. In practice, text, workout figures and maps are easier to read in bright outdoor conditions, while the curved glass gives the watch a more continuous, immersive face.
It is an AMOLED LTPO display with 320ppi, variable 1–60Hz refresh and an always-on option. The curved edge is both the visual signature and the compromise: contact with door frames or gym equipment is more likely to reach the exposed perimeter, and the raised profile is noticeable on smaller wrists.

Performance and Wear OS 6
The Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 and new machine-learning co-processor make everyday use quick. Reviews found responsive scrolling, notifications, app launches and Gemini interactions. Google says the co-processor is 25% faster while using half the power; that is a manufacturer claim rather than an independent benchmark.

Wear OS 6 introduces Google’s Material 3 Expressive design language and a polished Pixel-first interface. The watch feels coherent with a Pixel phone, with Google Maps, Wallet, Messages and other familiar services close at hand. Some of the visible software improvement is not exclusive to this model: Android Central reports that Wear OS 6 has also reached older Pixel Watches. The Watch 4’s hardware, charging and connectivity upgrades are therefore more important reasons to upgrade than the interface alone.
Gemini on your wrist: useful, but verify it
Raise to Talk lets you lift your wrist and speak to Gemini without starting with a wake phrase. Contextual Smart Replies are generated for the conversation rather than selected from a short fixed list. Gemini can handle weather, reminders, questions and other brief assistant tasks without reaching for the phone.
Responses are not instant in every situation, and the watch needs the relevant phone, internet, Google Account or LTE connection depending on the request. Gemini is an assistant, not an authority: TechRadar documented a response directing a reviewer to a disused train station. Check navigation, emergency information and other safety-critical answers yourself.
Health and fitness tracking
The hardware covers heart rate, blood oxygen (SpO2), skin temperature, stress, ECG, sleep, automatic workout detection and GPS. Google says the watch supports more than 50 exercise modes. Dual-frequency GPS is intended to hold a more reliable route through cities, tree cover and other difficult environments. Cyclists can send real-time statistics to the Google Health/Fitbit app, and the software includes Cardio Load, Target Load, a Health Metrics Dashboard and Morning Brief.
What the measurements are good for
For everyday wellness, the combination is useful: trends, notifications, sleep routines, workout summaries and route recording are all in one compact device. Google claims its sleep-stage classification is 18% more accurate than the prior generation and calls this its most accurate health and fitness tracker; those are company claims, not independent clinical validation. ECG, SpO2, heart-rate, temperature, stress and sleep functions are wellness or screening tools, not diagnoses, and regulatory availability varies by country.

- Precision-crafted to do it all: The Google Pixel Watch 5 features the domed Actua 360 display with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass and up to 40 hours of battery life[1,5]
- Metrics that matter: Advanced sensors help you stay ahead of your health and wellness; and Google Pixel’s most accurate heart rate tracking is fine-tuned for your activity[6,7]
- Understand your sleep like never before: Your watch captures insights like the time spent in sleep stages to breathing regularity, then summarizes it all in a personalized Sleep Score[8,9]
- Detects loss of pulse, then calls for help: Pixel Watch 5 is the only smartwatch to feature Loss of Pulse Detection, which can prompt a call to emergency services[10]
Where serious athletes should be cautious
Independent testing found generally useful heart-rate data but larger differences from a Polar H10 chest strap than some Garmin and Apple watches. Android Central also observed a tendency to classify light, restless sleep as awake. That does not make the watch poor for general training, but runners, cyclists and endurance athletes who require highly precise intervals, recovery and heart-rate data should consider a Garmin or a chest strap alongside it.
Google Health, Fitbit and the subscription question
Google’s health experience remains tied to Fitbit technology, although the Google Store now describes the app as having become the Google Health app. Branding and menus can vary by region and rollout, so check the current interface when buying.
Google promoted a Gemini-built personal health coach as a US preview at launch. Its availability and maturity have changed over time, and reviewers said its long-term usefulness needed more testing. Advanced sleep, readiness, coaching and health insights may require Google’s premium plan. The current name, recurring price, trial length and exact free-versus-paid feature split should be confirmed on the live Google Store listing before purchase; do not assume every advertised insight is included indefinitely.
Battery life and charging
| Model or mode | Google’s rating | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 41mm, always-on display | Up to 30 hours | Plan a daily charge; overnight tracking may require a short top-up |
| 45mm, always-on display | Up to 40 hours | More practical for sleep tracking and heavier use |
| Battery Saver | Up to two days (41mm) or three days (45mm) | Longer runtime with reduced functionality |
Google claims the new Quick Charge Dock reaches 0–50% in 15 minutes. A BGR reviewer reported roughly two full days, while TechRadar reached the 45mm’s 40-hour rating with moderate use. Those results are not guarantees: always-on display, GPS, LTE signal, continuous sensing, notifications, third-party apps and sleep tracking all change endurance. Battery Saver is not a full replacement for normal operation.
If sleep tracking matters, the 45mm is the safer choice. With either size, charging during a shower, breakfast or desk session is a more realistic routine than expecting multi-day endurance.

Pixel Watch 4 versus Pixel Watch 3
The upgrade is substantial in hardware but evolutionary in daily software use. Move from a Pixel Watch 2 and the brighter display, newer processor, dual-frequency GPS, faster charging, better battery rating and serviceability are compelling. From a Pixel Watch 3, upgrade if you specifically want the domed 3,000-nit display, longer endurance, satellite SOS, repair access or wrist-based Gemini.
Keep a healthy Pixel Watch 3 if you mainly want notifications, familiar apps and Wear OS 6. The interface update has reached older models, so routine use will not suddenly feel like a different class of watch.

|---|---|---|
| Weight without band | 31.0g | 36.7g |
| Always-on battery rating | Up to 30 hours | Up to 40 hours |

| Approximate official band fit | Google lists roughly 130–210mm depending on band; its Store FAQ lists about 150–215mm for the 45mm | |
Choose 41mm when comfort and proportion outweigh battery. Choose 45mm when you want larger glanceable text, more room for maps and fewer charging interruptions. Sensors and core software are not fundamentally different between sizes.
Wi-Fi/Bluetooth or LTE?
Choose Wi-Fi/Bluetooth when
- You normally carry your phone.
- You want the lower purchase cost and no watch-specific carrier line.
- Phone-free calls, streaming, navigation and emergency connectivity are not priorities.
Choose LTE when
- You run, hike or cycle without a phone.
- You want calls, messages, music, Wallet and connected services away from the phone.
- Satellite emergency communication is valuable to you.
The LTE watch is unlocked, but activation requires a compatible carrier; Google generally expects the phone and watch to use the same carrier. Satellite SOS requires LTE hardware and is subject to country availability and current Google terms. A Google Fi two-year data offer shown in search results expired on August 2, 2026, so it should not be treated as a current promotion.
Who should buy the Pixel Watch 4?
- Buy it if you use a Pixel or other Android phone, want the most integrated Google smartwatch experience, value a compact premium design and accept daily charging and possible subscription costs.
- Buy the 45mm Wi-Fi model as the default for larger text, sleep tracking and better endurance.
- Buy the 41mm Wi-Fi model for a smaller wrist and lighter, less conspicuous fit.
- Buy LTE only when phone-free connectivity or satellite SOS justifies the hardware and carrier expense.
- Choose Garmin when long battery life, training metrics and endurance accuracy matter more than apps and Google services.
- Choose Samsung Galaxy Watch when you use a Samsung phone and prefer Samsung Health integration.
- Choose a Fitbit tracker for simpler tracking, lower cost and longer battery life without full smartwatch features.
- Do not buy it for an iPhone: Pixel Watch 4 requires Android 11 or newer and the Google Pixel Watch app.

LTE works only near the phone
Check carrier support, same-carrier requirements and that the watch line has been activated. LTE capability alone does not create cellular service.
Battery falls short
Review always-on display, GPS and LTE use, weak signal, continuous sensors, notifications and third-party apps before assuming the battery is defective.
Sleep data is missing
Charge before bed, wear the watch securely and consistently, and allow enough overnight battery. Incomplete data can also reflect software or account limitations.
Health or coaching features are absent
Check country, account, app version, premium entitlement and whether the feature remains a preview.
Repair expectations are too high
Confirm an official repair channel and price locally. Serviceability does not guarantee inexpensive repairs, available parts or unchanged water resistance after service.
The Bottom Line
The Pixel Watch 4 is a refined, fast and unusually cohesive Android smartwatch—not the best choice for multi-day battery life or precision endurance training. Pixel owners buying new should favor the 45mm Wi-Fi model unless they need LTE; Pixel Watch 3 owners should upgrade only for the display, endurance, charging, GPS, repairability or satellite SOS.
