Google Shut Down Fitbit’s Web Dashboard in 2024: What Users Have Left in 2026

Fitbit’s desktop dashboard ended in 2024. Google Health keeps the experience app-centered, while account migration, data exports and a separate API sunset shape what users can do in 2026.

Google shut down the Fitbit.com web dashboard on July 8, 2024. That was the end of Fitbit’s browser-based hub for reviewing and logging health data—not the end of Fitbit devices. In 2026, Google made a separate change: the Fitbit app became Google Health, and Fitbit Account users had to migrate to a Google Account to keep using the service. The practical result is a mobile-first experience, with no documented like-for-like desktop replacement.

What happened to the Fitbit.com dashboard?

The Fitbit.com dashboard was the desktop site where users could review activity, sleep, weight and nutrition information, inspect trends, and enter data through a browser. Fitbit deactivated it on July 8, 2024, directing users to the Fitbit app instead. Fitbit confirmed the date in its official community support forum; 9to5Google reported that Fitbit said activity, nutrition, sleep and weight information would remain available in the app.

That assurance was about data and app access, not an equivalent desktop workflow. A phone app can contain a metric without offering the same ease of keyboard entry, large-screen graphs, bulk review or accessibility options as the former website. Google’s current documentation presents Google Health as an app with no documented browser-based replacement for the full Fitbit dashboard.

How the 2026 changes differ from the dashboard shutdown

There are several separate dates behind the headlines. The Fitbit.com dashboard ended in 2024; the later changes affected the app, accounts, data and developer integrations.

Date Change What it means
July 8, 2024 Fitbit.com dashboard deactivated The old consumer desktop hub stopped working.
May 19, 2026 Fitbit app became Google Health; Fitbit Account access ended Continuing users needed to move to a Google Account. Fitbit Premium was renamed Google Health Premium.
July 15, 2026 Google began processing deletions for data associated with accounts that had not migrated The stated window to download or delete data before that processing date has passed.
September 2026 Legacy Fitbit Web API scheduled to shut down Developers and third-party services relying on that API need to migrate; this is not a second consumer-dashboard shutdown.

Google describes the Google Health app as organized around Today, Fitness, Sleep and Health for users with a paired Fitbit device or Pixel Watch. Which information appears depends on the device, account, connected services and region. See Google’s app navigation guide and its Fitbit Account migration information.

Migration changes the account context

After May 19, 2026, the old Fitbit login was no longer the route for accessing the service; users needed a Google Account. Google says users could choose which historical data to move, and that Fitbit health and wellness data is kept separate from Google Ads data and is not used for Google Ads. That is Google’s stated commitment; it does not mean health data is outside Google’s account, privacy and data-processing systems. The Google Health privacy FAQ explains the company’s position.

Some Fitbit features changed or disappeared

The 2026 transition was more than a name change. Google lists removals or changes that include Groups and Community Feed, direct messages and notifications from other users, badges and new badge generation, historical badges, some kid-account social features, and some third-party connections, including Lifescan. Its feature-change documentation distinguishes these app changes from the earlier loss of the website.

What Fitbit users can still do

Google says it will continue support for existing Fitbit devices through software releases, security updates, warranty fulfillment and customer service, subject to regional conditions and product availability. The dashboard closure therefore did not itself end hardware support. Details are in Google’s Fitbit product update.

  • Use a supported device with Google Health: The app is the current route for viewing supported activity, exercise, sleep and health information.
  • Manage Google Health data: In the app, tap your profile picture or initial, then Your data in Google Health to reach documented export and deletion controls. Labels can vary by operating system, country and app rollout. See Google’s data-control instructions.
  • Connect selected services: Google documents Android Health Connect, Apple Health and certain direct partner connections. Support is not universal: partners may share only some metrics, and records can differ from what appears in a service’s own app. See the supported connections and limitations.

Google Health is not the same thing as Health Connect. Google Health is the consumer app; Health Connect is an Android data-sharing platform. Google says Garmin data must sync to Garmin Connect first rather than connecting directly from Garmin devices to Google Health. It also says Strava does not import Fitbit or Pixel Watch activities from Google Health via Health Connect or Apple Health. Some integrations may not backfill older exercises, and overlapping import routes can create duplicates.

How to export data now

An archive can preserve information for local analysis, but it is not a live dashboard and does not restore convenient ongoing syncing or manual entry.

Export Google Health data

  1. Use Google’s data-download process and select Google Health.
  2. Request the archive, then download the files from the delivery location when Google makes them available.

Google says its export can include activity, exercise, sleep, heart-rate and other Google Health data. Follow the current Google Health export instructions. Large archives may take several days to generate; files may need spreadsheet or data-analysis tools to be useful.

Export one GPS exercise

  1. Open Google Health and tap Fitness.
  2. Open the activity, tap More, then tap Export.

Google documents this route for exporting GPS exercises as TCX files. It is an activity export, not a substitute for a full account archive.

Legacy Fitbit Account archives

Google’s documented legacy instructions describe signing in on the Fitbit settings page, choosing Data Export, then selecting Request Data under Export Your Account Archive. The user confirms the request by email and downloads the archive after a second email says it is ready; a large archive can take several days. Because Fitbit Account access ended after May 19, 2026 and Google began processing deletions for non-migrated data on July 15, 2026, this old route may no longer work for an account that was not migrated. Do not assume the prior export window remains open; consult Google’s migration and data guidance.

Is there a desktop replacement?

There is no documented like-for-like successor to Fitbit.com for browsing and managing the full Fitbit experience on a computer. Google Health is app-centered. A browser may still be useful for Google Account privacy controls, data exports, subscriptions and account management, but those tools do not reproduce the old dashboard’s live metrics and logging interface.

For a larger display, a tablet running the app may help, but it should not be treated as a desktop dashboard. If browser access is essential for vision, mobility, workplace or research reasons, check the specific service’s current accessibility and web capabilities before buying hardware or migrating data.

What the September 2026 API shutdown means

Google says the legacy Fitbit Web API is scheduled to be turned down in September 2026. This affects developers, researchers and third-party apps that obtain Fitbit information through that API—not ordinary users simply viewing Google Health. An integration can stop syncing even while a Fitbit device continues to work if its developer has not moved to the Google Health API. Google’s API documentation and developer announcement explain the transition.

Which option fits your needs?

Need Practical direction Trade-off
Keep current Fitbit hardware and avoid replacing it Use Google Health Accept an app-first workflow and Google Account dependence; a new Fitbit does not restore the dashboard.
Computer-based fitness review and training analysis Consider Garmin Connect with compatible Garmin hardware Garmin has a device-and-web ecosystem, but its training focus, metrics and hardware differ; switching usually means buying a device. Garmin Connect and Garmin’s product site.
iPhone-centered smartwatch and health ecosystem Consider Apple Watch and Apple Health Apple Health is primarily an iPhone/iPad experience, not a replacement desktop dashboard, and Apple Watch requires Apple hardware. Apple Watch and Apple Health.
Sleep, recovery and readiness are the priority Compare Oura or Whoop These use different form factors and subscription models and are not direct replacements for a basic tracker-plus-app experience. Oura and Whoop.
Nutrition logging is the main gap Consider a nutrition app such as MyFitnessPal as a complement It is not a complete replacement for Fitbit hardware and health tracking. MyFitnessPal.
Workout recording and social sharing are the priority Consider Strava as a complement It is not a complete health-dashboard replacement, and Google documents import limitations. Strava.
Keep a personal record for spreadsheets or research Export Google Health data and work with the downloaded files Archives are not polished dashboards, live feeds or guaranteed full transfers into another ecosystem.

Before authorizing an unofficial dashboard, check which data route it uses, what permissions it requests, how it handles sensitive health information, and whether it will function after the legacy API shutdown. Also verify whether it supports the metrics you need rather than assuming a connection shares every field.
