Google announced its March 2026 Pixel Drop on March 3, bringing a cross-device package of Pixel phone features, Pixel Watch upgrades and additions for Android more broadly. The most practical concentration is on Pixel Watch: eligible owners can add phone-left-behind alerts, automatic phone locking, Express Pay and Find Hub, while newer watches gain further features. But the update is not universal: watch and phone models, LTE hardware, country and staged rollout all affect what appears.

Google began rolling out the update on March 3, with availability continuing over the following weeks. Its Pixel announcement and Pixel Watch update notice describe features with different eligibility rules, so check each one against your devices rather than assuming the entire package applies to every Pixel owner.

At a glance: which March upgrades fit your devices?

Feature Eligible devices Key qualification
Phone-left-behind alerts Pixel 8 or newer phone with Pixel Watch 2, 3 or 4 Must be enabled; the alert uses distance and movement rather than firing on every Bluetooth interruption.
Automatic phone locking Pixel 8 or newer phone with Pixel Watch 2, 3 or 4 Requires the paired devices to use Bluetooth.
Faster identity checks Pixel 8 Pro or newer eligible phone with Pixel Watch 3 or 4 Pixel 8 and A-series phones are excluded.
Express Pay Pixel Watch 2, 3 or 4 Opt in, keep the watch unlocked, and use a supported card and payment setup.
Find Hub on the watch Pixel Watch models receiving the March update Finding tagged items depends on compatible Find Hub accessories and network support.
One-handed gestures Pixel Watch 3 and 4 Not listed for Pixel Watch 2 or the original Pixel Watch.
Satellite SOS Pixel Watch 4 LTE Supported locations and emergency-use conditions apply; Google includes service for two years after activation.
Try It On clothing visualization Pixel 10 phones and newer Adults in listed markets; availability also depends on eligible products and service conditions.

Google’s March Watch update lists Pixel Watch 2, 3 and 4 software builds as CP1A.260305.014.W2 for Bluetooth/Wi-Fi models and CP1A.260305.014.W4 for 4G LTE models. Bluetooth/Wi-Fi watches began receiving the update before LTE watches; carrier and device factors can affect timing. See Google’s rollout and compatibility notice.

What Pixel Watch owners get

The watch additions focus on security, finding things, payments and hands-free interaction. Not every feature reaches every generation: the original Pixel Watch is not among the models listed for these March additions.

Google Pixel Watch 5 (45mm) - Android Smartwatch - Obsidian - Wi-Fi
  • The new Google Pixel Watch 5 offers a smarter way to a healthier you.[1,2]; Designed for Gemini Intelligence, get proactive help, and personalized insights from Google Health[3,4]; watch is compatible with Android devices only; not compatible with iOS devices
  • Precision-crafted to do it all: The Google Pixel Watch 5 features the domed Actua 360 display with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass and up to 40 hours of battery life[1,5]
  • Metrics that matter: Advanced sensors help you stay ahead of your health and wellness; and Google Pixel’s most accurate heart rate tracking is fine-tuned for your activity[6,7]
  • Understand your sleep like never before: Your watch captures insights like the time spent in sleep stages to breathing regularity, then summarizes it all in a personalized Sleep Score[8,9]
  • Detects loss of pulse, then calls for help: Pixel Watch 5 is the only smartwatch to feature Loss of Pulse Detection, which can prompt a call to emergency services[10]

Get an alert if you leave your phone behind

With the option enabled, a paired Pixel Watch can notify you when you move far enough away from your Pixel phone. Google says the system accounts for whether you are still nearby, such as moving between rooms, so an ordinary brief Bluetooth interruption does not necessarily generate an alert. The feature is off by default and requires a Pixel 8-or-newer phone with Pixel Watch 2 or newer.

  1. Open the Google Pixel Watch app on your phone.
  2. Select the relevant watch.
  3. Open Watch Preferences, then Security.
  4. Turn on Notify when left behind.

Bluetooth connection is required for setup. If no alert appears, the devices may not have crossed the system’s distance threshold. Google documents the requirements and setup in its Pixel Watch update notice.

Have the phone lock when the watch moves out of Bluetooth range

A supported Pixel phone can automatically lock when it becomes separated from its paired Pixel Watch over Bluetooth. This is a useful fallback if the phone is left behind or separated from you, but it requires a Pixel 8-or-newer phone and Pixel Watch 2 or newer. If it does not work, check model eligibility and Bluetooth pairing first; it is not a feature for any Android phone paired with any watch.

Find devices and tagged items from the watch

Find Hub on Wear lets you ring a nearby device, see a location and directions when an item is out of range, and mark an item as lost and secure it from the watch. Item-finding depends on compatible Find Hub tags or network accessories, so this does not make every tracker compatible or replace every tracking network. Google’s announcement describes the watch controls.

Tap to pay with Express Pay

After opting in, you can turn and tap your Pixel Watch at a payment terminal without opening Google Wallet first. Express Pay requires Pixel Watch 2 or newer, an unlocked watch and a supported card, bank, country and terminal. Motion detection is intended to reduce accidental payments. Google confirms the opt-in and unlocked-watch requirements in its support notice; it does not establish that every card or terminal will work.

Faster identity checks have narrower compatibility

Google says a connected phone and watch can speed up identity verification, but this option is limited to Pixel 8 Pro and newer eligible phones paired with Pixel Watch 3 or 4. Pixel 8 and A-series phones are excluded. Bluetooth must be connected. The restriction is tighter than the phone-left-behind and automatic-lock features, which support Pixel 8 and newer phones with Watch 2 or newer.

One-handed gestures extend to Pixel Watch 3

Gestures previously introduced on Pixel Watch 4 also reach Pixel Watch 3. Google gives examples such as answering calls, taking a photo and pausing workout music. They can be useful when the other hand is occupied; the March announcement does not list Watch 2 or the original Pixel Watch as eligible.

Earthquake alerts can arrive without an active phone connection

Pixel Watch can receive earthquake alerts directly when it has Wi-Fi or LTE connectivity, even without an active phone connection. The alerts use ShakeAlert and Android detection systems, but not every earthquake is detected and the feature is not supported in every region. “Standalone” describes independence from the phone, not operation without a network. See Google’s Pixel Watch notice.

Google Pixel Watch 4 (45mm) - Smartwatch - Moonstone Active Band - Wi-Fi
  • The Google Pixel Watch 4 is a stunning display of precision craftsmanship, with Gemini, your built-in AI assistant, Google’s longest-lasting battery, and comprehensive tools for next-level health and fitness performance[1,2,3,4]
  • See it all and do the most with the Actua 360 domed display; it’s 10% larger and 50% brighter than Pixel Watch 3, and as durable as ever with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass[1]
  • The Google Pixel Watch 4 has Gemini built in[4]; just ask questions and your ultra capable AI assistant will deliver quick responses for personalized help; and stay connected when you’re texting with AI-powered quick replies that are hyper-relevant[5,6]
  • Get up to 30 hours of battery life or up to 48 hours in Battery Saver mode[3]; plus, the new side charging dock gives you 15 hours of battery in 15 minutes or less[7]
  • Train smarter with 40+ exercise modes and real-time stats on your wrist[8]; and with high-precision dual-frequency GPS, you get more accurate route tracking on runs and hikes[1]

Satellite SOS expands, but only for Pixel Watch 4 LTE

Satellite SOS is the most hardware-restricted watch addition: it requires a Pixel Watch 4 LTE, not the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth version or an older watch. Google says availability extends beyond the contiguous United States to supported locations in Canada, Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico; check its country and setup information for the current supported list. The watch needs an open outdoor view of the sky to connect to a satellite, and service registration after required updates and network registration may take several hours.

Google says Satellite SOS is included at no additional charge for two years after activation, not indefinitely. It is an emergency contact option under supported conditions, not a guarantee of connection or a substitute for every dedicated satellite-communication device. Further details are in Google’s Satellite SOS announcement.

Pixel phone additions: useful, but often model- or region-limited

Circle to Search can recognize several things in one image

Circle to Search can identify multiple objects in a single image—for example, plants, characters, dishes or individual items in an outfit—rather than treating the whole screen as one search target. Outfit search and the clothing visualization tool are more restricted than general multi-object recognition: Google limits them to Pixel 10 phones and newer, with availability varying by market and service conditions.

Try It On visualizes eligible clothing results

On an eligible product result, select Try It On and upload a photo of yourself or choose a model to visualize the clothing. Google lists the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, Australia and India, and says users must be at least 18. It requires a Pixel 10 or newer; eligible products and availability can vary. It is not a general Circle to Search feature for every Pixel.

Gemini can carry out selected tasks in compatible apps

Gemini task assistance can handle selected actions such as reordering groceries, booking a rideshare or reordering a regular coffee order. Google describes it as a beta, with availability varying by supported app and other conditions; it is intended for adults. Users can review or stop tasks. Treat it as supervised assistance rather than an unrestricted agent that can order anything or complete every transaction independently.

Magic Cue can surface restaurant suggestions in a conversation

When a chat suggests that people are deciding where to eat, Magic Cue can display a Gemini-powered restaurant recommendation window. This is limited to Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, in select countries and languages. A Google account, Gemini requirements and an age of 18 or older also apply, so it is not a general feature for all Pixel owners.

Now Playing gets a separate history app

Now Playing’s recognized-song history moves into its own app, where you can browse past discoveries and open tracks in your preferred music service. Google says the app must be downloaded from the Play Store.

At a Glance adds transit, sports and market information

  • Transit: Transit information and delays require Pixel 7 or newer; Pixel Tablet is excluded, as are Europe and the United Kingdom.
  • Sports: Follow a team to see live scores. This feature is unavailable on Pixel Tablet.
  • Finance: Market information requires a connection to Google Finance and is unavailable on Pixel Tablet.

These are distinct eligibility rules, not one universal At a Glance upgrade. Google’s March Pixel Drop announcement sets out the feature qualifications.

  • Maximize your performance with advanced running features; build custom run workouts and get real-time guidance and advanced form tracking[3]
  • Enhance your run routine with Fitbit Premium; Google AI uses your goals, past runs, and readiness to power personalized run recommendations[3]
  • Know what your body is ready for each day with readiness; it uses sleep, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability to show if you’re ready to take on a workout or prioritize recovery[3]
  • Cardio load measures how hard your heart works so you can see how hard you’ve pushed; compare trends to see if you’re under- or over-training[3]

Scam Detection and Call Notes are not universal

Scam Detection is limited to Pixel 9 and newer devices in selected markets and languages, and excludes A-series devices. Google warns it is not perfect and scam tactics change. Call Notes and related capabilities also have their own device and language restrictions; check the feature availability in Google’s announcement rather than assuming they come to every Pixel with the March update.

Android-wide features in the March package

Some items announced alongside the Pixel Drop are Android ecosystem additions, not Pixel-exclusive phone features. Availability can still depend on app, accessory, service and rollout support.

  • Google Messages: Live location sharing.
  • Find Hub: Share a compatible tag or network accessory’s location with participating airlines to help locate lost luggage. The tag, airline participation and rollout all matter; see Google’s Find Hub luggage announcement.
  • Phone by Google: Custom Calling Cards.
  • Google Play: Play Shorts, a short-form video feed for discovering apps.
  • Android Auto: Educational games.
  • Gboard: New Emoji Kitchen combinations.

Google lists these Android additions separately from the Pixel-specific features in its March Android announcement.

Which Pixel Watch generation benefits most?

Watch March additions that stand out What it does not gain from this update
Pixel Watch 2 Phone-left-behind alerts, automatic phone locking with an eligible phone, Express Pay, Find Hub and earthquake-alert support subject to conditions. One-handed gestures, faster identity checks and Pixel Watch 4 LTE Satellite SOS.
Pixel Watch 3 Watch 2 features plus one-handed gestures; faster identity checks with an eligible phone. Pixel Watch 4 LTE Satellite SOS.
Pixel Watch 4 LTE The broadest listed set, including Watch 3 features and Satellite SOS in supported locations. Satellite SOS remains subject to location, service registration and sky-view conditions.
Pixel Watch 4 Bluetooth/Wi-Fi March watch additions other than LTE-only Satellite SOS. Satellite SOS.
Original Pixel Watch No new features listed for it in Google’s March Watch update notice. Do not assume the Watch 2-and-newer features apply.

These distinctions make an upgrade a personal choice, not a requirement to get the main conveniences. Watch 2 owners can get several of the most practical security and payment additions without moving to a newer watch. Watch 3 is the relevant step for users who specifically want one-handed gestures, while Satellite SOS is limited to Watch 4 LTE. Current hardware prices are not established here, so compare live pricing and carrier terms separately before buying.

When an advertised feature does not appear

  • The watch update is missing: The rollout was staged over several weeks, with Bluetooth/Wi-Fi versions first and LTE versions following. Carrier and device configuration can affect arrival.
  • No left-behind alert: Confirm that the setting is on and the watch and phone have moved far enough apart; a brief Bluetooth disconnect while nearby may not qualify.
  • The phone does not lock: Verify that the phone is Pixel 8 or newer, the watch is Pixel Watch 2 or newer, and Bluetooth pairing is intact.
  • Express Pay is unavailable: Check that it is enabled, the watch is unlocked, and the card, bank, country and terminal support the payment.
  • No earthquake alert arrives: Detection is not guaranteed for every earthquake, and regional support is limited.
  • Satellite SOS is unavailable: Confirm Pixel Watch 4 LTE hardware, a supported location and a clear view of the sky; registration may also take time.
  • A phone AI feature is absent: Check the specific model, language, country, age/account rules and compatible-app requirements. Many features are limited to Pixel 10 or selected markets.
