The Grand Seiko SLGH027 pairs a light-blue, radial Mt. Iwate-inspired dial with the brand’s high-beat 9SA5 automatic movement in a 40 mm Ever-Brilliant Steel Evolution 9 case. Zach Blass’s February 2025 Time+Tide hands-on describes the dial’s pronounced texture and fire-blued seconds hand; the dimensions and movement figures below are manufacturer specifications or source-reported measurements, not independent testing for this article.
What the SLGH027’s Mt. Iwate dial looks like
Grand Seiko interprets Mt. Iwate through a radial dial pattern intended to evoke the mountain’s ridges when viewed from above. Its light-blue color represents the air and water around the landscape. The effect is more directional than a uniform sunburst: the texture draws the eye outward from the dial’s center. In his launch-day hands-on, Zach Blass described the texture as pronounced and noted the fire-blued central seconds hand and black-on-white date display.
The dial belongs to Grand Seiko’s Evolution 9 design language, which the brand says builds on the 1967 44GS while prioritizing beauty, legibility and comfort. Prominent grooved indexes and strong hands provide the legibility cues; alternating Zaratsu mirror polishing and hairline finishing give the case its contrasting surfaces. These are the manufacturer’s design aims, not a claim about how the watch will fit or feel on every wrist. Case and bracelet dimensions
The published case measurements make the SLGH027 a 40 mm watch that is 11.7 mm thick. Time+Tide reports a 47 mm lug-to-lug length and 22 mm lug width. The brand’s announcement specifies a box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, see-through screw case back, 10 bar water resistance and 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance; Time+Tide also reports a screw-down crown.

The case and bracelet are made from Ever-Brilliant Steel, Grand Seiko’s name for its steel alloy. The manufacturer says its PREN value is more than 1.7 times that of the grade used in most high-end watches and describes it as more corrosion-resistant than typical watch-industry steel. That is the brand’s alloy comparison; it does not establish universal superiority in scratch resistance or overall durability.
The bracelet has a three-fold push-button clasp, with parts of the clasp in 18k rose gold and titanium, according to Grand Seiko’s launch material. Time+Tide describes the multi-piece links as fully brushed on their front surfaces. Those finish and construction details, together with the 47 mm reported lug-to-lug, help describe the watch on paper, but do not substitute for trying it on if wrist fit is decisive.

What movement is in the SLGH027?
The watch uses Grand Seiko Caliber 9SA5, an automatic movement with manual winding, a 36,000-vibrations-per-hour high-beat rate (10 beats per second), 47 jewels and an approximately 80-hour power reserve when sufficiently wound. Grand Seiko attributes the long reserve to the Dual Impulse Escapement and twin barrels. The brand also says the movement’s finishing takes inspiration from rippling water in the Shizukuishi River.
Understanding the accuracy figures
Grand Seiko gives the 9SA5 a mean daily rate of +5 to −3 seconds per day. Its 9SA5 instruction manual distinguishes that mean rate, measured under fixed test conditions, from the normal-use target accuracy of −1 to +8 seconds per day. Neither number guarantees the rate of an individual watch on a particular wrist: actual results can vary with winding, wearing conditions and environment.

Limited-edition status, launch price and availability
Grand Seiko announced the SLGH027 on February 3, 2025, as a 1,200-piece limited edition, with availability beginning in May 2025 through Grand Seiko boutiques and select retail partners worldwide. The release listed an approximate U.S. recommended retail price of $10,500 at launch and cautioned that price and specifications could change. Treat that figure as launch-era U.S. pricing, not a current offer or a resale valuation.
As accessed on October 4, 2026, the Grand Seiko Official Boutique US listing shows $10,500 and marks the model “No Longer Available.” That is the status of this particular U.S. boutique listing; it does not establish whether the watch is available through another market, retailer or the secondary market.

Who the SLGH027 is for
The SLGH027’s appeal rests on a specific combination: a conspicuously textured pale-blue dial, restrained steel case proportions on paper, and a high-beat movement with an approximately 80-hour reserve. Its limited production and launch price also place it firmly in the enthusiast end of the market. The case measurements, 10-bar water resistance and movement specification offer useful comparison points, but the available launch coverage does not establish a universal winner against competing watches or a current market value.
