Seiko USA calls the SPB155J1 a Prospex Alpinist and a “1959 Sport Watch Reinterpretation.” That is Seiko’s product description, not an independent historical assessment. The regional pages cited for SPB157J1 and SPB159J1 do not provide equally clear evidence for their dial colors, so check the exact regional listing rather than relying on informal nicknames or resale descriptions.
What the three references have in common
Seiko’s regional product specifications document the same principal movement and case details for all three watches:
- Movement: Caliber 6R35, automatic winding with manual winding.
- Power reserve: approximately 70 hours, as stated by Seiko.
- Case dimensions: 38.0 mm diameter, 12.9 mm thickness, and 46.0 mm lug-to-lug.
- Crystal: curved sapphire.
- Water resistance: 20 bar, as rated by Seiko.
- Lug width: 20 mm.
These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements or performance test results. A 20 mm lug width is useful when looking for replacement straps, but width alone does not confirm that a particular strap’s end shape or fit will work with a given reference.

How to choose between them
Choose SPB155J1 for the bracelet configuration
If you want the stainless-steel bracelet as the supplied band, SPB155J1 is the documented choice among these three. Seiko USA identifies its dial as green. Its listed 144 g weight is specific to that regional product data and bracelet configuration; it should not be compared with the leather-strap listings as though the figures described identical setups.
Choose SPB157J1 or SPB159J1 for a leather strap
Both are listed with cow-leather straps. The cited Seiko pages give each a regional listed weight of 85 g, but those figures come from different regional listings. Verify the exact dial, band, and other details on the Seiko page for your market before choosing between them.

Check fit before buying another strap
All three references have a stated 20 mm lug width. If you plan to replace the supplied band, verify the specific watch reference and the strap’s end shape and attachment before ordering; the shared width specification does not establish compatibility for every aftermarket strap.
