The GV18 Aplus is a real but dated budget watch-phone, not a modern smartwatch. It can handle basic Bluetooth calls and notifications, and some versions can make calls through a micro-SIM. But its old 2G-era hardware, uncertain carrier compatibility, rudimentary fitness features, and hard-to-verify companion app make it a poor choice for most people buying a watch for everyday use in 2026. Consider one only as a retro gadget or for a specific use you have verified will work.
What is the GV18 Aplus?
Released around 2015, the GV18 Aplus is best understood as two simple devices in one: a Bluetooth companion for a phone and, with a compatible SIM and network, a basic GSM watch-phone. It has a closed, feature-phone-style interface. Despite period descriptions calling it Android-compatible, it does not run Android like a Wear OS watch, and there is no modern app store or dependable platform for installing current apps. Contemporary hands-on coverage and the mirrored manual describe phone synchronization and built-in utilities rather than a modern smartwatch operating system.
That distinction matters: the GV18 can offer a surprisingly long list of basic functions, but it is not a small smartphone on your wrist. Its software, connectivity and support belong to an earlier generation of inexpensive wearables.
GV18 Aplus specifications
| Feature | What is reported | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 1.54-inch TFT LCD, 240 × 240 pixels | Reported consistently in period specifications; small targets and poor direct-sunlight visibility are practical drawbacks. Source |
| Touch | Capacitive touchscreen | Usable for basic menus; not comfortable for lengthy text entry. Source |
| Bluetooth | Bluetooth 3.0 | Period specifications report this version. Source |
| SIM and cellular | Micro-SIM slot; GSM/2G is reported | Network compatibility depends on the country, carrier, supported bands and remaining legacy service. Source |
| Battery | Removable 450mAh polymer battery | That is the reported original capacity, not a measure of what an old or used battery can still hold. Source |
| Storage | MicroSD/TF expansion, commonly claimed up to 32GB | Card and file-format compatibility can vary by unit. Source |
| Camera | Listings claim 0.3MP, 1.3MP or 2MP | The exact resolution is inconsistent; hands-on accounts describe very low, VGA-class quality. Treat it as a novelty feature. Source |
| Processor | MTK6260A or MTK626QA; approximately 533MHz is reported | Listings and reviews disagree about the chip. Source |
| GPS | No verified integrated GPS | Do not buy it for navigation or route tracking. Source |
| Health features | Pedometer, sedentary reminder and a sleep-monitoring label | These are basic utilities, not established medical or advanced fitness measurements. Source |
| Water resistance | No verified IP rating | Do not assume it is waterproof or suitable for swimming or showering. Source |
| NFC | NFC is listed in some specifications | No verified evidence establishes support for modern contactless payments. Source |
What can the GV18 Aplus actually do?
Its most credible strengths are simple phone functions and local utilities. In a 2015 review, ordinary tasks such as reading messages and accepting calls from a paired Android phone worked adequately for the device’s price. The reviewer’s account is useful as a description of period performance, not a guarantee that a particular surviving unit or current phone will behave the same way.

| Function | How it works |
|---|---|
| Bluetooth calls | Pair with a phone to handle calls using the watch’s speaker and microphone. |
| Standalone calls and messages | Use the SIM slot, if the SIM and local GSM network are compatible. This does not make the watch a full smartphone. |
| Phone synchronization | Phonebook, call logs and some message or notification information can be synchronized through the phone and companion software. |
| Everyday utilities | Alarm, calendar, pedometer, sedentary reminder, sound recording and local camera functions are described in period reviews and the manual. |
| Media | Music can be played locally from storage or handled through a paired phone; the watch can also control a smartphone camera remotely. |
Phone calls and messages
There are two separate call scenarios. In Bluetooth mode, the watch acts as an accessory to a nearby phone. In SIM mode, it can act as a basic cellular handset if the network accepts it. Its tiny touchscreen makes composing messages awkward: a hands-on report found SMS entry difficult, and notifications from services such as WhatsApp may show an alert without exposing the full message. That account does not establish reliable support for current messaging apps.
Camera and media
The built-in camera is best treated as a curiosity. Marketplace figures vary from 0.3MP to 2MP, but independent hands-on descriptions characterize the results as very low quality, with washed-out images and delays. The BetaNews review reported a weak 0.3MP camera. Remote control of a phone camera is potentially more useful than taking photos with the watch itself. MicroSD playback and a sound recorder are practical only if the card, formats and individual unit cooperate.
Activity features
The pedometer and sedentary reminder are basic activity utilities. The sleep function should not be mistaken for sleep analysis: a hands-on reviewer described it as behaving more like a timer, while another account reported a step count that was reasonably close to a manual count in that individual test. These limited observations do not establish consistent accuracy. There is no verified GPS, heart-rate, blood-oxygen or ECG capability.

Screen, design and everyday use
The 1.54-inch, 240 × 240 TFT is sufficient for simple icons, menus and call information indoors, but the interface is cramped by modern standards. Text entry is particularly uncomfortable, and a contemporary review found the display difficult to read in direct sunlight. The same review describes a bulky build and a plastic rear cover; its sample also had a troublesome battery installation and a rear-cover screw that did not secure it well. These are observations about that sample, but they are reasons to inspect an actual used watch rather than assume every listing represents a sound unit.
Specifications and hardware may differ among production batches and sellers. Camera modules, processor labels, firmware, batteries and included accessories are not reliably consistent across listings, so a specification table attached to a generic product photo is not proof of what will arrive.
SIM and cellular compatibility: verify before buying
The micro-SIM slot is not enough to establish that standalone calls will work. The watch is reported to use GSM/2G, and legacy network availability has changed substantially since its release. A SIM can fit physically while the watch still fails to register because the carrier no longer operates compatible service, does not support the relevant bands, or does not permit the device on its network.

For U.S. buyers in 2026, treat this as a major purchase risk. Do not assume an “unlocked” listing will work with a current carrier, and do not rely on a seller’s generic claim that it supports GSM. Before buying, ask the carrier to confirm the watch’s supported bands, remaining legacy-network availability, voice support and device compatibility. No particular U.S. carrier can be recommended on the available evidence.
Android, iPhone and companion-app compatibility
The most plausible target is an older Android phone. The manual describes an Android-oriented notification setup using a synchronization app, Bluetooth pairing and an enabled notification service. Period sellers and reviews also claimed iOS compatibility, but that is not evidence that the complete feature set works with a current iPhone. The manual does not establish dependable support for current Android or iOS versions.

A contemporary reviewer obtained the synchronization software through a QR code in the manual, outside Google Play, and had to change Android security settings to install it. That period account does not verify that an original, safe download remains available today. An old APK from an unknown mirror could request access to notifications, contacts or other sensitive data; current Android may also block installation or restrict its background behavior.

- Do not weaken your primary phone’s security or install an unverified APK just to enable watch notifications.
- If you choose to experiment with old software, use a secondary device without sensitive accounts and check every requested permission.
- After testing, revoke notification, Accessibility, contacts, microphone, storage and Bluetooth permissions you no longer need.
- Use the watch without the app if your goal is standalone calling and the cellular network is confirmed compatible.
Manual-based pairing steps
- On the phone, turn on Bluetooth and search for nearby devices.
- Select the watch, commonly named APLUS, and confirm the pairing request on both devices.
- Approve phonebook synchronization if you want contacts available for calls.
- If—and only if—you trust and can verify the companion software, install it and enable its notification service in Android’s notification or Accessibility settings as instructed by that phone.
- Keep the service running in the background. The mirrored manual warns that closing it can interrupt synchronization.
Menu names vary by Android version, and the manual’s instructions should not be assumed to map cleanly to a current phone. Its mirrored copy states that the factory security code is 1122 and recommends changing it; hardware revisions may differ, so treat that as a manual-reported default, not a universal guarantee. Manual
If notifications stop arriving
- Confirm that Bluetooth is connected and reopen the synchronization app, if you have chosen to use it.
- Check that notification access or Accessibility access remains enabled for the app.
- Check the phone’s battery settings for background restrictions, then reconnect or re-pair the watch if needed.
- Restart both devices and test with an ordinary SMS or incoming call before diagnosing third-party app support.
- Avoid replacing the app with an APK from an unverified download site.
Battery, charging and old-stock condition
The original removable battery is commonly listed as 450mAh. Old reports range from about five days of moderate use to more than three days of normal use, while some listings claim over a week on standby. These are historical figures, not a reliable forecast for a used or long-stored watch. A SIM connection, weak cellular signal, Bluetooth activity and battery age can all change endurance; the mirrored manual specifically warns that poor signal can drain the battery rapidly. Period battery report · Manual
Before accepting an old-stock or used unit, check whether the battery is swollen, unusually hot, unstable while charging or rapidly losing charge. Stop using a battery that shows those warning signs. If charging fails, the manual suggests checking battery installation and trying another compatible cable or USB power source; a replacement battery must match the required voltage, dimensions, protection circuitry and polarity. Do not use one merely because its connector fits. Manual troubleshooting

Is the GV18 waterproof, and does NFC mean payment?
No verified IP water-resistance rating is established. A forum-based document cautions against trusting marketplace claims that call it waterproof, but that is not an official certification either. Treat the rating as unknown: do not swim or shower with it, and keep it away from immersion and charging moisture.
NFC appears in some specifications, but no verified evidence shows support for Google Wallet, Apple Pay, secure payment tokens or another modern tap-to-pay service. The presence of an NFC-related feature does not establish payment capability, so do not buy the watch expecting contactless purchases. Period specification reference
Who should buy one?
It may suit a collector or experimenter
The GV18 may appeal if you specifically want a retro, low-cost watch-phone to explore, repair or use with a confirmed compatible 2G network. Its removable battery, SIM slot, local music and basic calling concept are unusual by current smartwatch standards. Buy only with a return window and a clear description of the actual unit.
It is a poor choice for daily smartwatch use
Look elsewhere if you need reliable current notifications, WhatsApp, GPS, health metrics, water resistance, payments, a supported app store, security updates or dependable after-sales service. It is also a poor choice when emergency connectivity matters, including for a child or vulnerable wearer: uncertain network support and old hardware undermine reliability.
Choose by the job you need done
- For fitness tracking, choose a currently supported wearable with documented sensors, GPS needs and phone compatibility.
- For calls without carrying a phone, choose a current cellular smartwatch whose carrier, LTE support and service requirements are documented.
- For simple calls and texts at low cost, a current feature phone is generally a more practical alternative than a tiny, aging watch-phone.
- For a GV18 specifically, prefer a seller offering returns; confirm exact model, working charging port, battery condition, included accessories and SIM compatibility before purchase.
Availability and value in 2026
The GV18 was sold as a low-cost device around 2015; period prices are historical, not a current value benchmark. As of August 18, 2026, the available listings and search results did not establish a dependable new retail channel or active official Aplus support program. Old marketplace pages, regional sellers and wholesale offers do not guarantee authentic stock, working batteries, returns or support. Period review · Marketplace listing example
There is no clear, verified official Aplus consumer buying page in the available sources. That makes seller protection and the condition of the specific watch more important than the original spec sheet.
