The Casio G-Shock GMW-B5000TCC-1 is a full-metal Square whose premium is about materials and design, not a new set of watch functions. Its lightweight titanium construction, intricate circuit-board camouflage and familiar solar, radio-controlled and Bluetooth features make it a compelling collector’s daily watch—if you value the finish enough to accept a conspicuous, discontinued model and uncertain resale pricing.
What is the GMW-B5000TCC-1?
It is a 2023 titanium interpretation of the full-metal GMW-B5000, built around the square case shape of the original G-SHOCK 5000 series. The official references use hyphens: GMW-B5000TCC-1 on many international pages and GMW-B5000TCC-1JR for the Japanese-market version. “TCC” identifies the titanium circuit-board camouflage design; the suffix varies by market. The Japanese product page identifies the -1JR as Made in Japan, a designation that should not automatically be applied to every regional version.
The watch uses Casio module No. 3459, familiar from the GMW-B5000 family. The module is not a new complication developed specifically for this edition; its circuitry instead inspired the exterior pattern. That distinction matters: this is principally a material and finishing upgrade, rather than a functional leap. Casio’s product overview and Fratello’s February 2023 hands-on describe the design and module.
Why the camouflage looks different
The pattern is derived from the actual circuit board of module No. 3459, not from generic military camouflage. Casio applies laser engraving, black ion plating and further laser engraving to create varied shading and depth. The result is a layered, technical pattern across the bezel and bracelet, with engraving also visible on areas such as the case sides and clasp. The 2023 launch announcement explains the concept.

In photographs, look for the contrast between black-treated and bright polished surfaces, the continuation of the pattern around the bezel, and the negative LCD. The circuit motif also appears on the crystal while leaving space for solar charging. Decoration is most pronounced on top-facing surfaces; the lateral sides of the bracelet links and clasp are less elaborate. The polished areas can reflect light, so this is a deliberately conspicuous design rather than a discreet black watch.
Titanium, finishing and expected wear
The case, bezel and solid bracelet use TranTixxii, a titanium alloy developed by Nippon Steel. Casio says it retains titanium’s lightness and corrosion resistance while offering approximately twice the surface hardness of conventional titanium and supporting a bright polish closer to stainless steel. That is a material claim, not a promise that the watch is twice as scratch-proof or immune to marks. Casio’s product information describes the alloy and construction.
The polished titanium and black ion-plated sections need to be treated as finished surfaces, not invulnerable ones. Scratches can still occur, and damage to dark coating may be especially noticeable against the underlying finish. The screw-lock case back is pure titanium with DLC coating; that back treatment does not mean the whole exterior is DLC-coated. The crystal is sapphire with an internal anti-reflective coating, offering a more scratch-resistant viewing surface than the exposed case and bracelet.

Fit and wearing considerations
Casio specifies dimensions of 49.3 × 43.2 × 13 mm, a weight of 104 g, and a compatible wrist/band size of 150–205 mm. It has a one-touch three-fold clasp. The titanium construction keeps the watch relatively light for a full-metal square, but the 43.2-mm width and 13-mm thickness remain substantial. Wrist shape, bracelet adjustment and personal tolerance for a broad square case matter as much as circumference; titanium does not turn it into a thin watch. Specifications are listed on Casio Singapore’s product page.
The solid bracelet and clasp contribute to the premium impression, while correct sizing helps prevent the broad case from shifting around. It is a plausible daily wearer for someone who likes a visible, reflective watch and wants less weight than a comparable steel GMW-B5000. It is a poorer fit for someone seeking a low-profile piece, a subdued finish, or a watch that disappears under a close-fitting cuff.
Durability and water resistance
The GMW-B5000TCC-1 combines G-SHOCK shock-resistant construction with 200-meter (20-bar) water resistance, a screw-lock back and sapphire crystal. Casio describes buffering components between the titanium bezel and case. The water-resistance rating is substantial, but it is not permission to press every button underwater. Seals age, so service history and seal condition matter, particularly when buying a discontinued watch. Check Casio’s regional support resources for current service guidance: Casio watch support.

Module 3459: useful functions, familiar GMW-B5000 technology
The feature set favors reliable timekeeping and low-maintenance ownership over smartwatch extras. Casio’s regional specifications give the following functions and qualifications:
| Feature | GMW-B5000TCC-1 specification |
|---|---|
| Power | Tough Solar rechargeable power |
| Time correction | Multi Band 6 radio reception and Bluetooth Mobile Link |
| Radio stations | WWVB (United States), JJY (Japan), DCF77 (Germany), MSF (United Kingdom) and BPC (China) |
| World time | 39 cities/time zones plus UTC; five cities selectable |
| Stopwatch | 1/100-second stopwatch |
| Countdown timer | 24 hours |
| Alarms | Five daily alarms, including one snooze alarm |
| Illumination | White LED full-auto illumination; two- or four-second duration and afterglow |
| Calendar and formats | Full-auto calendar through 2099; 12/24-hour format; six selectable day-of-week languages |
| Other settings | Power-saving mode, low-battery alert and button-operation tone on/off |
| Reserve after full charge | Approximately 10 months without further light exposure under normal use; approximately 22 months in total darkness with power saving enabled |
| Accuracy without calibration | Casio specifies ±15 seconds per month when radio calibration and the mobile-link function are not being used |
These figures are Casio’s published specifications, not a guarantee of identical results in every owner’s conditions. Extended storage in darkness can eventually deplete the rechargeable cell; the reserve estimates are conditional. The negative display supports the technical look, but it may not be as immediately legible as a positive LCD in all lighting or viewing angles. The LED helps after dark, yet anyone who prioritizes easy reading should assess the display in person rather than assuming the styling has no usability trade-off. Radio reception, Bluetooth and app setup
Multi Band 6 and Bluetooth serve related but different purposes. Radio reception synchronizes time from supported transmitters; Bluetooth Mobile Link connects to a phone for time adjustment and settings. Reception depends on location, distance from a transmitter, building construction, interference, time of day and home-city settings. A U.S. owner should not assume radio reception will work equally well everywhere. If a signal does not come through, that alone does not show the watch is defective; Bluetooth or manual setting can serve as alternatives.

Casio’s current support guidance supports GMW-B5000 users on both G-SHOCK Connected and CASIO WATCHES, but says a watch can be connected with only one app. Existing users who want to preserve data should complete the transfer from G-SHOCK Connected before pairing with CASIO WATCHES. New owners should generally start with CASIO WATCHES and check current phone compatibility on Casio’s app transition support page and compatibility search. Bluetooth adds convenience for timekeeping and configuration, not notifications, GPS, fitness tracking or a full smartwatch experience.

| Alternative | What you gain | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| Standard stainless-steel GMW-B5000 | Much of the same core GMW-B5000 utility in a more conventional, generally easier-to-source full-metal format | More weight and less distinctive titanium/circuit-board finishing |
| Other titanium GMW-B5000 variants | Similar lightweight premium construction with a different finish or design | The TCC-1’s specific module-derived camouflage concept |
| Resin-square G-SHOCK | A lighter, more utilitarian and typically less costly route to square G-SHOCK functionality | Titanium bracelet, sapphire crystal and luxury metal finishing |
| MR-G G-SHOCK | A more elaborate premium positioning and finishing in the G-SHOCK range | Potentially much higher cost if the goal is simply a durable square with core timekeeping functions |
| Smartwatch | Richer notifications, health features and app integration | The TCC-1’s traditional watch simplicity, long solar reserve and G-SHOCK metal-square character |
The comparison is about category and ownership priorities, not a current price ranking. The TCC-1 is most persuasive when the buyer wants this exact material-and-design combination; it is harder to justify as a way to obtain functions unavailable in less expensive G-SHOCKs.
Buying the GMW-B5000TCC-1 in 2026
Casio Japan lists a January 2023 release, an original Japanese suggested retail price of ¥214,500 including tax, and marks the model production discontinued. The February 2023 Fratello hands-on reported a launch-era European price of €1,790. Neither figure is a current resale quote. Regional availability varies, and a live Casio product page does not prove stock; confirm inventory with a regional Casio store or authorized dealer before treating the watch as available. Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a secondary-market purchase, check the reference and market suffix, module and case-back markings, bracelet and clasp finish, included links, box and paperwork, and the seller’s provenance. Look closely for damage to black ion plating, wear on polished surfaces, and replacement parts that do not match the original finish. “Limited edition” in a listing is not proof of a documented production quantity. These checks can reduce risk but cannot authenticate a watch by themselves; when in doubt, ask Casio or a qualified watch professional.
Who should buy it?
- Consider it if you collect G-SHOCKs, appreciate technical industrial design, want a titanium full-metal square, or value solar and synchronized timekeeping without routine smartwatch charging.
- Look elsewhere if function-per-dollar is the priority, you need notifications or health tracking, prefer a positive display or understated finish, or want a slim, low-profile watch.
- Be cautious if the asking price relies mainly on scarcity. The Japanese page confirms discontinued status, but no reliable current resale price is established here; condition, provenance and regional supply will shape the purchase.
The GMW-B5000TCC-1 is best understood as a highly finished, lightweight titanium G-SHOCK whose familiar functions make it practical, while its circuitry-derived pattern gives it collector appeal. Its premium makes sense for the design and material story, not as a technical upgrade over the standard GMW-B5000.
