The Fam Al Hut Mark 1 Möbius is a debut watch built around an unusual combination: a bi-axis tourbillon, two retrograde time displays and a jumping hour, housed in an openworked, lugless capsule-shaped case. Its design makes a persuasive case for calling it a new benchmark in originality among Chinese independent watches—but that is an assessment of its ambition, not a measured ranking of the industry.
What is the Fam Al Hut Mark 1 Möbius?
The Möbius is the debut wristwatch from Fam Al Hut, a Chinese independent brand. Rather than arranging conventional hands around a central dial, it makes the movement and its displays the focus. The hours appear through a jumping-hour indication, while minutes and seconds are shown on separate retrograde displays. A bi-axis tourbillon occupies a prominent position beneath a domed sapphire crystal.
The result is a compact-looking capsule form with an unconventional presence: the case has no traditional lugs, and the strap is routed around the body. The tourbillon’s raised sapphire dome is an important part of the silhouette, so the watch’s listed case thickness does not tell the whole story.
How does the bi-axis tourbillon work?
A conventional tourbillon rotates its escapement and balance in one cage, typically around a single axis. A bi-axis design adds a second rotating frame, changing the orientation of the regulating organ along two axes. The Möbius combines this mechanism with two different rotation periods: Fam Al Hut’s product page lists 90 seconds for one axis and 60 seconds for the other in production.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The figures changed during development. Monochrome’s March 2025 hands-on described the prototype’s axes rotating in 150 and 60 seconds. Fratello’s July 2025 account of a prototype said the slower axis was planned to change to 90 seconds for production, while the 60-second rotation would remain. The earlier and later figures therefore describe different stages, not necessarily conflicting specifications.
A tourbillon is a mechanical regulating device, not a guarantee that a watch is more accurate. The cited coverage provides no independent chronometric test result for the Möbius, so its complication should be understood as an engineering and visual feature rather than proof of superior timekeeping.

What makes the design and displays unusual?
Two retrograde indications and a jumping hour
A retrograde display uses an indicator that travels along an arc and then returns to its starting point, rather than making a full rotation. On the Möbius, the two retrograde displays handle time indications alongside the jumping hour. The architecture gives the watch a distinct layout and makes the movement part of the display, rather than hiding it behind a conventional dial.
A lugless, domed case
The official product page describes a case with concave polishing and a domed sapphire crystal. The tourbillon has its own pronounced sapphire dome, which rises above the main case profile. Fam Al Hut lists the dimensions as 42.2 × 24.3 × 12.9 mm and shows peak thickness at 17 mm. Monochrome’s March 2025 report measured 17.4 mm at the highest point, including strap routing; that small difference reflects the source and measurement convention. The 17 mm peak figure is the brand’s listed measurement.

Fam Al Hut says each watch receives an estimated “200+ hours of craftsmanship per watch.” That is the brand’s estimate, not an independently audited production figure. Fratello’s July 2025 report said its examined watch was a prototype and described planned production changes including enhanced hand-finishing.
Why call it a new benchmark for Chinese indie watchmaking?
The case for the phrase is creative rather than statistical. The Möbius combines a two-axis tourbillon, dual retrograde indications and a jumping hour in a shape that is not simply a conventional round watch with an elaborate movement inserted into it. It is an assertive debut, and the unusual display architecture gives it a clear identity.

Fam Al Hut co-founder Xinyan Dai described the brand’s priorities in a November 2025 Monochrome interview: “We rank them in this order: creativity, innovation, and then performance. Chronometric precision is essential, but in the world of haute horlogerie, it’s expected. True distinction comes from originality-the courage to create new mechanical art.” The Möbius reflects that stated emphasis on originality.
The production model has also evolved. Monochrome’s March 2025 hands-on described a brand based in Chongqing, using collaborative prototyping and China’s supply chain while its own team handled traditional movement finishing and assembly; it noted that Fam Al Hut was not an independent watchmaker in the traditional one-person-workshop sense. In November 2025, Monochrome described the watch as designed in Chongqing and produced in a new Shanghai manufacture. Hodinkee reported in August 2026 on a workshop in Taicang, Jiangsu, and the brand’s pursuit of manufacture status. These accounts concern different stages and functions—design, production and workshop development—rather than establishing one unchanging location.

Hodinkee also reported that roughly 98 percent of movement components had been revisited after the award. That is the publication’s reported figure, not an independently audited measure. The available accounts support describing Fam Al Hut as building its manufacturing capabilities; they do not establish a like-for-like technical comparison with competing watches.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What award did the Möbius win?
The Mark 1 Möbius won the Audacity Prize at the 2025 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). It also appeared on the GPHG’s 2025 Tourbillon category list, but it did not win the Tourbillon prize. The Audacity award recognizes the watch’s unconventional character; it is not a chronometric certification.
How much does the Fam Al Hut Möbius cost, and is it available?
There is no reliable current price established by the checked official product page, which uses preorder wording. Historical reports should not be treated as current quotes: Monochrome reported USD 42,000 and direct sales in March 2025, while Fratello reported USD 32,000 for stainless steel and USD 33,000 for amorphous zirconium in July 2025, in the context of a prototype and production plans. Confirm the current price, order status and delivery terms with Fam Al Hut before making a purchase decision.
What to weigh before comparing or buying
The Möbius is best judged on the details that define its particular proposition: how its capsule-shaped, lugless case sits on the wrist, how the raised dome affects its profile, whether the retrograde and jumping-hour display suits your preferences, and how you value its movement architecture and finishing. Its 3 ATM water-resistance rating is modest, and the sources cited here do not establish independent durability, accuracy or comparative wear-test results.
