The specialist Panerai Reference Database identifies PAM02661 as its successor; details from Panerai’s current page for that later reference should not be assumed to describe PAM01661 exactly.
What the 2021 hands-on review says about PAM01661
WatchTime Middle East published its review on March 17, 2021. Its description identifies the PAM01661 as a 44 mm Luminor Marina Carbotech with a grained carbon-fiber case, black sandwich dial, blue luminous markers, P.9010 automatic calibre and three-day power reserve. The review frames the Carbotech as a stealthier interpretation of the Luminor Marina, while noting that the 44 mm case still has a substantial presence. Those are the reviewer’s impressions, not a report of my own handling or wear test. Case diameter alone also cannot establish how a watch will fit: wrist shape, lug-to-lug length, thickness and strap articulation affect the feel, and the available review description does not establish those measurements.
Carbotech, dial and movement
Case and appearance
The material is presented in the review as carbon fiber with a grained appearance. That gives the watch a darker, more textured look than a conventional polished metal case, while the blue luminous markers create contrast against the black sandwich dial. The source does not provide an independent material test or a quantified comparison with another case material, so claims about durability or weight advantage should not be inferred from the description alone.

Movement and display
For PAM01661, WatchTime identifies the automatic P.9010 calibre and a 72-hour reserve. That is enough to describe the review’s stated movement and reserve, but not to establish every complication or movement specification. Panerai’s current product page for PAM02661 lists a date at 3 o’clock and small seconds at 9 o’clock; those successor-page details are not confirmation of the complete PAM01661 configuration.
How PAM01661 differs from the successor PAM02661
The reference numbers are easy to conflate. The Panerai Reference Database lists PAM02661 as the successor to PAM01661. Panerai’s currently located official page is for PAM02661, not the earlier reference. Its specifications are useful successor context, but they should not be transferred wholesale to PAM01661.

Panerai describes PAM02661’s case as having an irregular carbon-fiber pattern and increased corrosion resistance. These are manufacturer descriptions of the successor, not independent comparative test results and not proof that the earlier PAM01661 has identical construction. Likewise, the official successor page’s straps do not establish PAM01661 strap fit or included accessories. See Panerai’s PAM02661 product page for that reference’s own specifications.
Production records and what they do—and do not—confirm
The Panerai Reference Database lists PAM01661 production years as 2020–2021 and records 2,000 pieces for production year W (2020) and 2,000 for X (2021). The database explicitly states that its contents have not been approved by Panerai, so treat those quantities as database records rather than manufacturer-confirmed production figures.
