The 2023 Cartier Tank Française is a refinement of the collection’s bracelet-led design: the link joining the bracelet to the watch head was redesigned to make the transition feel simpler and more integrated. The steel range has three sizes, with quartz movements in Small and Medium and an automatic movement in Large.
What changed in the 2023 Tank Française?
The Tank Française has always been the Tank family’s integrated-bracelet expression, designed so the case and bracelet read as a continuous form. In its 2023 redesign, Cartier reworked the link that connects the bracelet to the watch head. Monochrome describes the result as a simpler, better-integrated connection, while Time+Tide characterizes the new line as more refined than the preceding iteration. The change is subtle in concept but central to the watch’s identity: the bracelet is part of the design, not an add-on.

How do the three steel sizes compare?
Small and Medium are quartz; the Large steel model is automatic. The specifications below distinguish Cartier’s current Small and Medium product listings from the Large model details reported in launch coverage.

Quartz or automatic: which movement is right for you?
Small and Medium: quartz
Both smaller steel models use quartz. Choose between them primarily by how their listed case dimensions suit your wrist and preferred presence: the Small is the more compact option, while the Medium has a broader, longer case. The cited listings do not state a battery-life figure.

Large: automatic
The Large steel model uses automatic Caliber 1853 and has a 37-hour power reserve according to launch coverage. An automatic watch is powered by a mechanical movement rather than a quartz battery, so it suits someone who prefers that type of watch and accepts its different timekeeping and ownership routine. The available reports do not establish a general accuracy figure for the model. Time+Tide’s reviewer reported that their individual sample ran at +5 seconds per day; that is one observation, not a Cartier specification or a guarantee for other examples.
What about gold and diamond versions?
The Small and Medium are also reported in precious-metal configurations, including yellow gold, and diamonds are available on some variants. Those options should not be assumed to share the steel references’ prices or exact specifications. Compare the configuration and reference, not just the size name.

How much did the 2023 Tank Française cost?
Monochrome reported launch-period euro prices of €3,750 for the steel Small quartz and €5,850 for the steel Large automatic. These are historical launch figures, not current universal prices. Cartier’s Small steel quartz listing appeared at $4,300 in US search results; that is a regional listing for the Small reference only, not a current US price for the Large. Prices and availability can vary by market and change, so check the relevant Cartier regional product page for a live quote.
