Here’s the OnePlus Watch 2: What It Is and Whether It’s Still Worth Buying

The OnePlus Watch 2 paired Wear OS with a 100-hour battery claim and premium materials. Here’s what changed after launch and when the older Android watch still makes sense.

The OnePlus Watch 2 was announced on February 25, 2024, as OnePlus’s first major Wear OS smartwatch after its original watch used proprietary software. Its headline promise was up to 100 hours in Smart Mode, backed by a dual-processor design. In 2026 it is an older model, not OnePlus’s current flagship: the Watch 3 launched in 2025. The Watch 2 may still suit an Android user who values battery life and premium materials, but only if its price and warranty make sense beside newer options.

What OnePlus revealed in 2024

OnePlus introduced the Watch 2 on February 25, 2024, with public launch coverage beginning the following day and retail availability starting in early March. It was the company’s second-generation smartwatch, but a substantial change from the first: instead of a proprietary platform, it ran Wear OS 4 and supported Google’s smartwatch ecosystem. The launch pitch paired those broader smartwatch features with unusually long battery life. OnePlus’s press archive records the product chronology, while Droid Life’s launch coverage reported the reveal details.

The launch versions were Black Steel and Radiant Steel. The U.S. launch price was $299.99; that is a historical launch price, not a current price or evidence of present-day stock. Launch-era review coverage reported the price and specifications.

Battery claim Up to 100 hours in Smart Mode, as claimed by OnePlus

Specification and launch-price details were reported by Yahoo Tech’s launch-era review. OnePlus’s battery figure is a best-case “up to” claim for a defined mode, not a promise that every wearer will get four days.

Why the move to Wear OS matters

The first OnePlus Watch was not a full Wear OS watch. The Watch 2’s Wear OS 4 platform changed what it could do: it gave users access to Google Play apps, Google Maps, notifications, and Google Wallet where the country, bank, account, and service support it. This made it a more conventional Android smartwatch rather than a fitness-focused device with a more limited app environment. Droid Life’s earlier report documented the Wear OS transition.

The trade-off is power demand: a full smartwatch platform and its apps can use more energy than a lightweight proprietary system. OnePlus’s response was its Dual-Engine Architecture, which combines a Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 performance processor with a lower-power BES2700 processor. The idea is to use the more efficient chip for appropriate background tasks while preserving the Snapdragon’s capacity for Wear OS. The architecture helps explain the battery strategy; it does not eliminate the effect of an always-on display, GPS, calls, or frequent workouts.

Battery life: the 100-hour claim versus daily use

Smart Mode

OnePlus advertised up to 100 hours in Smart Mode, which retains the watch’s full smartwatch functionality. Independent launch reviews generally found around four days in favorable, review-specific use, but settings and workloads varied. For example, display behavior, GPS sessions, notifications, calls, music playback, app use, and health tracking all affect runtime. The reported review results are useful context, not a controlled guarantee for every owner. Yahoo Tech’s review and OnePlus community usage reports offer launch-era observations.

Power Saver and charging

Power Saver extends runtime by reducing smartwatch functions, so it is not equivalent to running Wear OS normally. Fast charging is one of the Watch 2’s practical strengths: launch coverage reported that a short charge could provide roughly a day of Smart Mode use and a full charge took about an hour. Treat both figures as launch-era reports; charging time and usable endurance depend on the watch’s condition and settings. Droid Life’s announcement coverage described the battery and charging claims.

  • Expect shorter runtime with the always-on display, frequent GPS workouts, calls, music playback, or intensive notifications.
  • Battery condition matters on an older or refurbished unit; a used watch may not match launch-era review results.
  • Choose Power Saver only if the reduced feature set suits the task, rather than treating its endurance as the normal Smart Mode result.

Health and fitness features—and their limits

The watch offers heart-rate and sleep tracking, blood-oxygen monitoring where available, workout modes, and GPS-based exercise tracking. Activity metrics include steps, distance, calories, pace, and elevation-related data. Fall detection and emergency or SOS functions depend on feature, region, and configuration support. OnePlus’s health ecosystem uses the OHealth app. Product feature information is available from OnePlus’s Watch page.

These readings are wellness information, not medical diagnoses. Fit, skin contact, movement, exercise type, body position, and software can affect results. One community post described inconsistent heart-rate readings during elliptical exercise; it is an individual report, not a controlled accuracy test or proof that all units behave that way. The report is best treated as a reminder to compare watch readings with another reliable source if a metric matters to you.

Design, comfort, and water resistance

The round stainless-steel case, sapphire crystal, and replaceable strap give the Watch 2 a more traditional premium-watch look than an inexpensive fitness band. Those materials and the large battery also contribute to a relatively large, heavy watch; it may feel oversized on smaller wrists. If possible, try one on before buying, especially if you plan to sleep in it for tracking.

The 5ATM and IP68 ratings indicate water resistance under specified test conditions, not that the watch is waterproof or suitable for every aquatic setting. They do not imply unrestricted hot-tub, sauna, deep-diving, or saltwater use. Water resistance can also decline with age or after impact.

Android compatibility and moving to a new phone

The Watch 2 is designed for Android phone pairing; iPhone buyers should look elsewhere. OnePlus phones may offer the most integrated experience, while other Android phones can generally pair, though available features can vary by phone, region, account, and companion software. Depending on the feature, setup may require Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a Google account, Google Play services, and the relevant app. Google’s Wear OS setup guidance covers pairing requirements.

A Wear OS watch pairs with one phone at a time. Moving the watch to another phone may require disconnecting and resetting it, which erases local apps, settings, and data. Sync anything important first. Google describes the one-phone limitation and reset process in its phone-transfer guidance.

Move the watch to a new Android phone

  1. Sync or back up any watch data you want to keep.
  2. On the watch, open Settings → System.
  3. Choose Disconnect and reset or Unpair with phone; wording can vary by software version.
  4. Confirm the reset, then pair the watch with the new Android phone.

Software support and checking your version

The Watch 2 launched with Wear OS 4. OnePlus stated a three-year software-update commitment, and reporting on the policy says the plan included Wear OS 5 and Wear OS 6. That is a bounded commitment, not a promise of indefinite updates. The available reporting does not establish a particular unit’s installed version or justify assuming support beyond the stated window. Android Authority’s update-policy reporting discusses OnePlus’s statement.

OnePlus Watch 2, Watch 2R, or Watch 3?

The Watch 2R is a lower-cost, lighter follow-up in the same broad Wear OS family, with less premium construction than the stainless-steel-and-sapphire Watch 2. It makes more sense when price and weight matter more than materials; the Watch 2 is the better fit if sapphire glass and a more upscale case are priorities. Launch context for the 2R appears in Droid Life’s coverage and Android Central’s event report.

The Watch 3 is OnePlus’s newer flagship, launched on February 17, 2025, according to OnePlus’s press archive. The comparison below is a buying framework, not a live-price check; current prices, stock, warranty terms, and detailed regional feature availability are not established here.

Model Better fit for Main trade-off
OnePlus Watch 2 Android buyers who want premium materials and long battery life at a meaningful discount Older hardware and a shorter remaining support horizon than a newer model
OnePlus Watch 2R Buyers prioritizing lower cost and lighter weight Less premium construction than the Watch 2
OnePlus Watch 3 Buyers who want the newer OnePlus flagship, newer features, and a longer product life ahead It may cost more; compare actual prices and your feature needs

Pixel Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch models are also worth considering for Android users: Pixel Watch for Google and Fitbit integration, Galaxy Watch for Samsung Health and the Galaxy ecosystem. Their feature fit depends on phone and region. Google describes the broader Wear OS ecosystem at Wear OS.

Who should buy the OnePlus Watch 2 now?

It makes sense if

  • You use Android and want a full Wear OS smartwatch.
  • You value long battery life and fast charging more than the newest sensors.
  • You prefer a round watch with stainless steel and sapphire crystal.
  • You find a substantial discount and the seller offers clear return and warranty coverage.

Look elsewhere if

  • You use an iPhone, need LTE, or require medical-grade measurements.
  • You want the newest OnePlus hardware or the longest remaining support horizon.
  • You have a small wrist or dislike large, heavy watches.
  • The Watch 3 is only modestly more expensive, or the Watch 2 listing has unclear region, charger, warranty, condition, or return terms.

For a clearance or marketplace purchase, verify whether the unit is new or refurbished, its warranty region, return period, included charger, and update status before paying. No current Watch 2 price or stock is established here, so compare the actual listing against the Watch 3 rather than using the 2024 launch price as a benchmark for today.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
