Both let the wearer pause the displayed time with a pusher and restore it on demand, but they make that pause visible in different ways. The Cut keeps its small seconds moving backward; the Arceau’s retrograde date hand slips beneath the dial edge.
How does Hermès Le Temps Suspendu work?
Pressing the pusher sends the hour and minute hands toward 12 o’clock and suspends the displayed time. Press it again and the watch restores the correct time and resumes running. Hermès describes this as putting the watch “on standby”; it is a display complication, not a claim that the movement itself stops. Hermès’s 2025 Universal Registration Document says the second press resets the time and restarts it.
On the Hermès Cut
The hour and minute hands stop on either side of 12. The small-seconds hand continues in reverse, completing one circuit every 24 seconds, according to the Fondation Haute Horlogerie’s 2025 profile. FHH’s Hermès Cut profile describes this distinctive motion.
On the Arceau
The hour and minute hands stop on either side of 12, while the retrograde date hand disappears beneath the dial edge. A second press restores the time and date. Hermès describes the hands converging at 12 before resuming on demand, and notes that the model won the Men’s Watch Prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève when it launched in 2011. FHH identifies the Cut’s movement as the H1912 and the Arceau’s as the H1837 in its 2025 profiles. FHH’s Arceau profile and the Cut profile above provide the specifications and indicated prices. The reserve and water-resistance figures are not fully aligned across FHH’s Arceau profile and Hermès’s current reference pages, so treat them as source- and reference-specific rather than as one universal specification. The 3 bar and 30 m statements should not be assumed to be independently verified equivalents for every version.
How do the cases and designs differ?
Hermès Cut: geometric case and integrated bracelet
The Cut balances a circle with a more angular, sharpened outline. Hermès describes a bevel-cut bezel, alternating satin and polished surfaces, and a crown at 1:30. Its complication version is 39 mm in rose gold. FHH lists burgundy-red and opaline-silver dial options, with 60 diamonds on the silver-dial version, plus the integrated bracelet and an interchangeable chalk rubber strap. The broader Cut collection also includes 36 mm models; those are not the 39 mm Le Temps Suspendu.

Hermès’s France Cut collection page describes the line’s case and interchangeable-strap system, while the FHH profile above covers the complication model. The collection page’s listed prices are for 36 mm collection variants, not the 39 mm complication watch.
Arceau: openworked dial and larger case
The Arceau complication model uses a 42 mm case and an openworked dial that exposes the module. FHH describes precious-metal case options and alligator straps. Hermès’s regional pages show specific combinations: Portugal’s white-gold reference W408234WW00 and Finland’s rose-gold reference W408083WW00. The available specifications do not establish which case will feel more comfortable on a particular wrist; compare lug-to-lug dimensions and try the actual watch on if fit is decisive.

What do the Hermès Cut and Arceau Le Temps Suspendu cost?
Prices are market- and reference-specific. As listed by Hermès on 2026-10-04, the Portugal page for white-gold Arceau reference W408234WW00 showed €40,250, while Finland’s rose-gold reference W408083WW00 showed €34,950. These are regional prices for different configurations, not directly interchangeable quotes. Check the local Hermès listing or boutique for current availability and pricing.
FHH’s 2025 model profiles gave indicated prices of EUR 43,000 for the Cut and EUR 38,000 for the Arceau. Those are FHH’s indicated 2025 prices, not current universal retail prices. Hermès France’s Cut collection page, accessed 2026-10-04, listed its 36 mm collection variants at €6,050, €8,450, €11,300 and €18,650; none of those amounts should be taken as a price for the complication-equipped 39 mm Cut.

What should you compare before buying?
- Display behavior: choose between the Cut’s backward-running small seconds and the Arceau’s disappearing retrograde date hand.
- Size and shape: compare the 39 mm Cut and 42 mm Arceau on your wrist; diameter alone does not establish fit.
- Exact configuration: verify metal, dial, strap, reference number and local price. Regional listings can describe different versions.
- Water exposure: Hermès cautions that Arceau watches with leather straps should avoid all contact with water. Confirm the guidance for the exact watch and strap rather than assuming a rating applies to every configuration.
- Movement care: both models are self-winding. A watch winder is optional, not a requirement; consult the watch instructions and confirm the appropriate settings before buying one.
- Servicing: confirm that a prospective watchmaker is qualified to service the exact Hermès reference and movement. The H1912/H1837 specifications alone do not establish a provider’s authorization or capability.
