Neither is the universal winner: the Tudor Pelagos offers a lower official US price and, in its standard 42 mm form, a higher depth rating; the Rolex Submariner 124060 pairs a 300 m rating with Oystersteel and Rolex’s design and clasp system at a substantially higher listed price. The right choice depends first on which Pelagos and Submariner you mean, then on your budget, preferred material, and wrist fit.
Compare exact models, not just family names
“Pelagos” and “Submariner” each cover several watches, so a family-to-family comparison can obscure important differences. This comparison focuses on three current references: Tudor Pelagos 39 (M25407N-0001), standard 42 mm Pelagos (M25600TN-0001), and the no-date Rolex Submariner 124060.
| Model | Case and material | Water resistance | US list price observed 2026-10-04 | Other stated details |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tudor Pelagos 39 (M25407N-0001) | 39 mm, grade 2 titanium | 200 m | $5,625 US suggested retail price | Tudor says it meets ISO standards for divers’ watches; the cited product information does not identify the standard number or edition. |
| Tudor Pelagos (M25600TN-0001) | 42 mm, titanium-and-steel case | 500 m | $6,025 US suggested retail price | Approximately 70-hour power reserve; helium escape valve; titanium bracelet. |
| Rolex Submariner no-date (124060) | 41 mm, Oystersteel | 300 m | $10,050 US | Calibre 3230; approximately 70-hour power reserve; Oysterlock safety clasp with Glidelock extension. |
These are official US prices displayed on Tudor and Rolex product pages on 2026-10-04, not street or secondary-market prices. Tudor identifies its figures as suggested retail and says prices and models may change. Check the Tudor Pelagos 42 mm product page, Tudor Pelagos 39 product page, or Rolex Submariner 124060 page for current listings.
Which one is better for diving?
Depth rating is not a simple quality ranking
The standard 42 mm Pelagos is rated to 500 m, compared with 300 m for the Submariner 124060 and 200 m for the Pelagos 39. Tudor’s family page also lists the Pelagos Ultra at 1,000 m. These are model-specific manufacturer ratings; the higher number alone does not establish that one watch is safer or more suitable for a particular dive.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Both brands describe features for underwater timing and legibility. Rolex specifies a unidirectional 60-minute Cerachrom bezel and Chromalight display. Tudor highlights luminous bezel markings, and the cited 42 mm Pelagos includes a helium escape valve. Such features support watch-based timing and reading, but neither watch replaces a dive computer or other required dive equipment.
Movement reserve is close on the two larger references
Tudor lists approximately 70 hours of power reserve for the cited standard Pelagos, and Rolex lists approximately 70 hours for the 124060. Those figures apply to these references; do not assume every watch in either family has the same movement or reserve.

How material, size, and fit change the choice
The Pelagos 39 uses grade 2 titanium at 39 mm; the standard Pelagos is a 42 mm titanium-and-steel model; and the 124060 is a 41 mm Oystersteel watch. Diameter and material provide useful starting points, but they do not establish how a watch will sit on a particular wrist. The cited product information does not provide a directly comparable on-wrist fit test or matching weight figures, so comfort should be judged by trying on the exact reference when possible.
Bracelet adjustment is another practical distinction documented on these pages: Rolex lists an Oysterlock safety clasp with Glidelock extension on the 124060. Tudor’s cited 42 mm model description specifies a titanium bracelet, but the gathered product details do not establish a directly comparable adjustment system for the Pelagos models here.

Which should you choose?
Choose the Pelagos 39 if…
- You want the smallest of these three cases, at 39 mm, and prefer grade 2 titanium.
- You value a lower official US price than either the cited 42 mm Pelagos or Submariner 124060.
- A 200 m rating meets your needs; do not infer the 500 m rating of the standard Pelagos from the Pelagos name.
Choose the standard 42 mm Pelagos if…
- You want the highest rating among these three specific references: 500 m.
- You prefer a titanium-and-steel case, titanium bracelet, and a watch listed with a helium escape valve.
- You want the cited approximately 70-hour reserve at an official US suggested retail price below the 124060’s listed US price.
Choose the Submariner 124060 if…
- You prefer a 41 mm Oystersteel case and the Submariner’s particular design.
- The Rolex-specified Oysterlock clasp and Glidelock extension are features you want.
- You are comfortable with its higher listed US price and a 300 m rating rather than choosing on depth rating alone.
The prices and configurations above are for the no-date 124060. Rolex’s US model listing also shows Oystersteel Submariner Date variants at $11,350 and $11,900, so “Submariner” does not identify a single price or configuration. Tudor likewise lists Pelagos 39, standard Pelagos, LHD, and Ultra variants; check the exact reference before comparing.

The manufacturer pages establish listed specifications and prices, not street or resale value, availability, comparative service costs, or measured comfort. They also do not provide a matched weight comparison in the cited details. Those factors may matter to a purchase, but they require reference-specific information beyond the listed specifications. For buying and maintenance, Tudor directs buyers to its official retailer network; Rolex states that only official Rolex retailers are allowed to sell and maintain a Rolex watch.
