Check your Pixel Watch’s system software periodically, and keep its apps, the Google Pixel Watch app, and its connected Android phone current too. These are separate updates: installing one does not update the others. Updates can bring security fixes, bug fixes, compatibility improvements, and new features, though what is available depends on the watch model and rollout.
Check for a Pixel Watch system update
On the watch, open Settings → System → System updates. To get there, wake the display, swipe down, tap Settings, then System and System updates. Let the watch check; if an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions. If it reports that the watch is up to date, no update is currently available to that device.
Before installing, put the watch on its charger, charge it to at least 50%, and connect it to Wi-Fi. Keep the phone nearby with internet access, and leave the watch on its charger while installation runs. Google says updates typically finish in under an hour, but some can take longer; avoid interrupting an active installation. Menu wording can vary slightly by software version or region. Google’s update instructions cover these steps and prerequisites.
Update apps installed on the watch
Watch apps update separately from Wear OS. On the watch, press the crown, open Play Store → Manage apps, then tap Update all. Some apps need an internet connection and relevant permissions on the phone and watch; app availability varies by device and region. Google’s Pixel Watch update guidance includes the app-update path.

Update the Pixel Watch app and connected phone
Update the Google Pixel Watch app
- On the Android phone, open the Google Play Store.
- Tap the profile icon, then Manage apps & device → Updates available.
- Find Google Pixel Watch and tap Update.
Play Store wording may differ slightly by Android version or region. Keeping this app current matters because it handles phone-side watch functions and compatibility.
Check for an Android system update
Open the phone’s Settings app and look for System update or Software update. The exact path depends on the phone manufacturer and Android edition. Google recommends current phone, watch, and companion-app software for setup and troubleshooting. See its setup guidance and pairing troubleshooting.
Find the watch’s software version
On the watch, open Settings → System → About → Versions. The screen can show version details such as the build number and Android security-update level. This is the watch’s software information; it is not necessarily the same as the version of the Pixel Watch app on the phone. Google documents the version menu, and its Wear OS guidance distinguishes watch software from phone-side companion software.

What the June 2026 Wear OS 7 rollout means
In an announcement dated June 16, 2026, Google listed Pixel Watch 2, Pixel Watch 3, and Pixel Watch 4 for the Wear OS 7 rollout. The rollout was phased over several weeks and could depend on carrier and device, so an eligible watch might not receive it immediately. The announcement listed global builds CP2A.260603.001 for LTE and CP2A.260603.001.S1 for Bluetooth/Wi-Fi models. These identifiers are specific to the announced release and connectivity editions, not universal build numbers for all watches or later updates. See Google’s rollout announcement.

Feature access can depend on model, country, language, app, account, and other eligibility conditions. Google’s June 16 Wear OS announcement describes the features.
The original Pixel Watch was not included in that Wear OS 7 applicability list. A feature announcement or a new operating-system release does not mean every watch generation receives it.

Know your model’s guaranteed-update period
Google’s published table lists the following guaranteed update periods. The dates describe the end of the stated guarantee, not a date when a watch stops working or a promise that every future feature will reach every model.
| Model | Google’s listed guaranteed updates |
|---|---|
| Pixel Watch | Through at least October 2025 |
| Pixel Watch 2 | Through at least October 2026 |
| Pixel Watch 3 | Through at least October 2027 |
| Pixel Watch 4 | Through at least October 2028 |
These periods come from Google’s Pixel Watch update-support information. The original Pixel Watch’s listed guarantee ended in October 2025; Google’s published guarantee does not establish that future updates are assured beyond that point.

Why an update may not appear
- The rollout is staged. Google says availability can depend on carrier and device. Repeated manual checks cannot force an update that has not been released to your configuration.
- Your model is not listed for that release. Check the specific announcement rather than assuming all Pixel Watch generations are eligible.
- The watch is not ready to install. It may need at least 50% charge, a charger, or Wi-Fi.
- The watch is already current. A manual check reports what is available to your device at that time, not every announced update.
- Connectivity or software compatibility is an issue. Check the phone’s internet connection and update the watch, Pixel Watch app, and phone software.
Notifications can alert you when an update becomes available, but a manual check is useful if you dismissed a notification, are troubleshooting, or want to verify the installed version. Google describes both the notification-based rollout and the manual check in its rollout announcement and update instructions.

If the watch will not update
Start with the basics
- Place the watch on its charger and confirm it has at least 50% battery.
- Connect the watch to Wi-Fi and make sure the phone has internet access.
- Restart the watch normally if it is responsive: hold the crown for about three seconds, then select Restart.
- Try Settings → System → System updates again.
If the watch is actively installing, leave it charging and give it time rather than repeatedly interrupting it. Google says the process typically takes under an hour, but can take longer. Its update troubleshooting instructions advise what to try if it does not complete.
Use Google’s update recovery sequence
If the watch still will not update, Google recommends this specific recovery procedure:
- Press and hold both the crown and the side button for 20 seconds, then wait for the watch to reboot fully.
- Open Settings → Connectivity → Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off.
- Open Settings → Connectivity → Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on.
- Return to Settings → System → System updates and try again.
This is an update troubleshooting step, not a factory reset; it does not instruct you to erase the watch. If it does not resolve the problem, contact Google Pixel Watch support before considering a reset.

If the watch and phone will not reconnect
- Turn on Bluetooth and keep the phone close to the watch.
- Enable location if pairing requires it, and confirm Wi-Fi or mobile data is available.
- Update the Pixel Watch app and the phone’s system software.
- Restart both devices if needed.
Google says Fast Pair requires the phone to be within 0.5 meters (1.6 feet) of the watch. Its pairing troubleshooting guidance covers proximity, connectivity, and restart steps.
Consider a reset only after other steps fail
A factory reset is not the first fix for a missing update: it can remove local settings and require pairing and setup again. Try the update prerequisites and Google’s recovery sequence first, then contact support if the problem persists. If you are changing phones or watches, Google has a separate transfer and setup workflow for supported circumstances; its transfer process requires Wear OS 4.
