What the June 4, 2025 challenge required
MacRumors reproduced the challenge instruction as: “Let’s run this one together. On June 4, record a running workout and go at least 5K (3.1 mi) to earn this special badge. Record it with any app that adds workouts to Health.” The wording describes one qualifying running workout on June 4, not a cumulative distance across multiple days. The reported reward was a dedicated award in the Fitness app and animated stickers for Messages. MacRumors’ June 2025 report is the source for the event-specific terms.
How the recording route worked
Use Apple Watch’s Workout app
- On Apple Watch, open the Workout app.
- Choose the relevant running workout and start recording.
- Run at least 5K (3.1 miles) during the workout on the challenge date.
- End the workout so it is recorded.
Apple’s Apple Watch user guide explains how to start a workout and view information such as distance while it is active. The guide covers general watch operation; the June 4 date and 5K threshold above were specific to the 2025 challenge.
Use a third-party workout app
The quoted challenge wording allowed “any app that adds workouts to Health,” so a third-party app could count if it recorded the running workout to Health. The available wording does not establish whether manually adding a workout afterward qualified; it is safest not to assume that it did.

Is the June 4 award still available?
No. The June 4 date in this challenge was June 4, 2025. A later Global Running Day report covered a 2026 challenge dated June 3, with a 5K requirement; that date should not be confused with the 2025 instructions. See MacRumors’ June 2026 report. Each year’s date and terms need to be checked separately, so the 2025 instructions do not establish a future challenge schedule.
What is and is not established
The event-specific details here come from MacRumors’ contemporaneous report quoting the challenge notification; an official Apple challenge page is not established by the cited material. The reports do not establish region-specific eligibility rules or a device compatibility list. Apple’s user guide supports the general recording steps, but not the historical award’s eligibility beyond what the quoted challenge text says.
