There is no official Rolex face in Apple’s Face Gallery. For a free, dependable Rolex-inspired look, add a dial image as an Apple Watch Photos face; for more elaborate designs, try an app such as Clockology or Facer, understanding that an app-based clock is not the same as a native Apple face.
What “a Rolex face” can mean on Apple Watch
Apple’s Face Gallery lets you customize Apple-designed faces; it is not an unrestricted marketplace for installing arbitrary branded faces. Apple supports sharing faces and third-party complications, but that does not make every downloaded design a native system face. A Rolex-looking image or video may show a static photo face, a third-party clock app open on the watch, a native Apple face styled with luxury-watch colors, or a mockup. Those options differ in how they show time, complications, and whether they remain on screen.
- Photos face: A real Apple face with a dial image as its background. The image’s hands, date window, and subdials are static artwork; Apple’s time display and any supported complications are separate.
- Native analog face: An Apple-designed face with live timekeeping and system behavior, customized to evoke a classic or luxury watch.
- Third-party clock app: An app-based design that can offer more visual elements, but may not behave like a face selected in Apple’s Face Gallery.
Make a Rolex-inspired Photos face
This is the simplest free approach and works best when appearance matters more than animated dial details. You need an iPhone paired with your Apple Watch and an image you have the right to store and display. Apple’s Photos face supports manually selected photos, albums, and limited layout choices; Apple says you can manually select up to 24 photos for a face. See Apple’s Photos face instructions.

- Save the dial image to Photos on your iPhone, or add it to an album synced to the watch.
- Open the Watch app on the iPhone and tap Face Gallery.
- Select Photos, then tap Choose Photos.
- Select the dial image and tap Done.
- Review the available layout and time-placement options. Choose a layout that does not cover important dial details.
- Tap Add to put the face on your watch.
You can also create one from the watch: open Photos, select an image, tap the action button, scroll down to Create Watch Face, then choose Photos.
Prepare the image for the watch screen
- Use a high-resolution image with generous space around the dial; markers or a logo too near the edge may be cropped.
- Try a high-contrast background so Apple’s time display remains legible.
- If the time overlay obscures hands, numerals, or branding, try another Photos layout or prepare a version with more open space where the time appears.
- Remember that any pictured hands or subdials do not move or track elapsed time, activity, or heart rate.
Add or change a complication
On the watch, touch and hold the face, tap Edit, swipe to the complication screen, tap a position, and turn the Digital Crown to choose an available option. Press the Digital Crown to save, then tap the face. The available positions and choices vary by face, position, model, software version, and installed apps; a Photos face cannot turn printed dial subdials into live data. Keep native functionality with an Apple analog face
If you want live time, complications, notifications, and normal Apple Watch behavior, start with an Apple-designed analog face instead of a dial photo. It will not reproduce every Rolex design, but you can choose a restrained color scheme and layout that suggests a classic watch.

- Open the iPhone’s Watch app and tap Face Gallery.
- Choose an analog face whose dial layout suits you.
- Adjust its available color and style options. Consider black, white, blue, green, or champagne tones and a clean index or numeral style where offered.
- Add only the complications you want, such as date, calendar, weather, battery, or activity, in the positions the face supports.
- Tap Add to Watch.
To add a face directly on the watch, touch and hold the current face, swipe left to the end, tap the add button, choose a face, and tap Add. You can keep both a Photos face and a native face, then switch by touching and holding the current face and swiping to the one you want. Third-party apps can create more elaborate visual clocks than a static photo. They are optional alternatives, not a way to install an official Rolex face. Check each app’s current listing, compatibility, and instructions before installing: app interfaces and watchOS behavior can change.
Clockology
Clockology’s U.S. App Store listing describes custom and shared designs with elements such as time, date, weather, activity or HealthKit data, battery information, and animation. It is a free download with in-app purchases; prices and offers vary by region, account, and promotion.

A cautious setup is to install Clockology on the iPhone and watch, open it on both devices, select or import a compatible design, sync it, and then open Clockology on the watch. Follow the app’s current instructions for keeping it visible. Clockology’s FAQ says the watch must be awakened at least once per hour for the app to remain on screen longer than one hour. That is a meaningful difference from a native face, and behavior may vary with settings and software versions.
Facer
Facer offers a browsable design library and a sync workflow. Its Apple Watch setup page describes installing Facer on the iPhone, connecting a watch, choosing Apple Watch in the app, selecting a design, and tapping Sync. That page says watchOS 7 or later, but it was last updated in 2022; check the current app listing and support information rather than treating that as a complete current compatibility guarantee. For most owners, a useful arrangement is a Photos face for the Rolex-inspired appearance and a native face for workouts, health data, navigation, and complications. Face sharing has its own requirements: Apple says a recipient may continue without a third-party app, but a complication from that app will not be present; see Apple’s sharing guidance.

Troubleshoot cropping, missing details, or sync problems
The dial image is cropped
Try an image with a square composition and more margin around the dial, move important details inward, or select a different Photos layout. If Apple’s time display falls over a busy area, use a version of the image with more open space there.
The face is hard to read or its subdials do nothing
Choose a higher-contrast, cleaner image if you are using Photos. A static dial’s printed hands and subdials will not update. If live data or legibility matters more, switch to a native analog face with supported complications.
A third-party design disappears or sync fails
An app-based clock may give way to the normal clock when watchOS returns to its standard face. For Clockology, the app’s documented hourly wake requirement is described above. If a design will not sync, work through these checks:

- Confirm the watch is paired with the iPhone and both meet the app’s current compatibility requirements.
- Install any required companion app on both devices and open the app on each.
- Keep the devices near one another and check Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections.
- Restart the app; if needed, restart both devices and try syncing again.
- Remove and re-add the design, and check whether it relies on a complication from an app that is not installed.
- Consult the app’s current support documentation before changing system settings.
Notifications, app termination, Low Power Mode, software updates, and app-specific settings may affect third-party behavior. Do not assume an app-based design has the same always-on, raise-to-wake, or battery behavior as a native face.
Be clear about Rolex branding
You can display an image containing a Rolex logo in a Photos face, but that does not make the face official, licensed, or supplied by Rolex. Apple does not provide an official Rolex face in Face Gallery. Use images you have the right to store and display, avoid downloads claiming to be “official Rolex” without reliable authorization, and do not present an unofficial design as a Rolex product. If you want to avoid brand-asset concerns, search for generic “luxury watch,” “classic diver,” or “chronograph” designs instead of logo artwork. Be cautious with configuration profiles or downloads from unfamiliar sites.
