Huawei announced the Band 4 Pro in China on December 5, 2019, with built-in GPS, NFC, and a 0.95-inch AMOLED display. Its launch price was 399 yuan, and first sales were scheduled for December 12. The GPS is intended to record outdoor workout routes without a phone; NFC features depend on the regional model and supported services, so it does not guarantee universal contactless payments.
What Huawei announced
The Band 4 Pro was unveiled alongside Huawei’s Nova 6 series in China. It followed the Band 3 Pro and sat above the standard Band 4 in Huawei’s fitness-band lineup, with standalone GPS as a key distinction. Chinese launch reports listed a price of 399 yuan. IT之家’s launch report covered the announcement and core specifications; Huawei Central reported the planned December 12 first sale.
What built-in GPS does—and does not do
Unlike a connected-GPS tracker that relies on a paired phone’s location hardware, the Band 4 Pro can record an outdoor workout route using its own GPS hardware. Huawei’s Japanese announcement described phone-free tracking for outdoor activities including running, cycling, and swimming. The phone can still be useful for syncing and reviewing workout history, configuring the band, and handling updates. Huawei Japan’s announcement establishes the intended route-recording use, not measured GPS accuracy, acquisition time, or battery life.
GPS route recording is not turn-by-turn navigation, cellular connectivity, emergency calling, or live location sharing. For a workout, a clear view of the sky may help GPS reception; no performance measurements are established here.

NFC depends on the market and service
Chinese launch coverage described NFC uses including transit cards and access cards, and also reported an Alipay offline-payment function. These are region-specific services, not evidence that every Band 4 Pro supports bank-card payments wherever it is sold. IT之家’s NFC report details the Chinese use cases.
NFC availability can depend on country, firmware, service provider, transit system, and the exact regional model. The documented information does not establish Google Pay, Apple Pay, or US bank-card compatibility. Huawei Japan’s announcement confirms GPS and other features for its market but does not establish that Chinese transit, access, or payment services worked on the Japanese version.

Fitness and health tracking
The Band 4 Pro combines workout tracking with heart-rate, sleep, and blood-oxygen features. In supported exercise modes, reported metrics include pace, calories, heart rate, training effect, recovery time, and estimated VO₂ max. SpO₂ and heart-rate readings are wellness data, not diagnoses or substitutes for clinical equipment. Huawei’s Japanese announcement says the band is not medical equipment and its data should not be used for medical care or precision-critical professional measurement.
How it differs from the standard Band 4
The Pro’s clearest positioning advantage is built-in GPS, with NFC also included in the product’s launch specification. That makes it more suited to someone who wants to record an outdoor route without carrying a phone than a basic tracker. It retains the same general fitness-band format and a 0.95-inch AMOLED display. The Band 3 Pro was the closer predecessor in emphasizing GPS. Launch coverage supports this positioning, but does not establish a complete feature-by-feature comparison across every regional version of Band 4 and Band 4 Pro. Gizmochina’s launch coverage summarized the Pro’s GPS and NFC features.

It may make sense for someone seeking an older, compact Huawei band specifically for phone-free route recording, or for a buyer whose local transit or access system is confirmed to work with the exact regional version. Its AMOLED display and mix of activity and wellness tracking made it more capable than a bare-bones step counter at launch.

Quick Recap
What to verify before buying an older or imported unit
- Confirm the exact model and sales region, then verify that its NFC services support the transit, access, or payment system you intend to use.
- Check Huawei Health compatibility, firmware and language region, warranty and return terms, and whether replacement straps and charging accessories are available.
- Ask about battery condition, especially if you plan to use GPS or continuous sensors. No precise battery-life figure is established by the launch information cited here.
- Do not treat the 50-meter water-resistance rating as permission for hot tubs, hot showers, or high-pressure water; Huawei’s stated rating is qualified by ISO 22810:2010 and its announcement advises against hot-water use.
