To factory-reset a working Galaxy Watch7, open Settings → General → Reset on the watch, then confirm. You can also use Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings → General → Reset → Reset on its connected phone. A factory reset erases personal data and restores default settings, so back up first. LTE service may need carrier reactivation afterward, especially if the watch was activated with a QR code. Menu labels can vary by software, phone, carrier, and region.
Before you reset your Galaxy Watch7
A reset is appropriate for a clean start, a change of owner, a forgotten screen lock, or a persistent problem. It is more destructive than restarting, so prepare before confirming it.
- Back up what you can. In Galaxy Wearable, run the available watch backup before resetting. Unsynchronized health and activity information may be lost, and restoration depends on what was backed up and what is offered during setup. Samsung warns that resetting removes personal data and restores default settings: Samsung’s reset guide.
- Charge the watch. If its battery is low or it is unstable, place it on its charger and allow it to charge before starting.
- Have account details ready. You may need the Samsung or Google account credentials associated with the watch during setup.
- Plan for LTE reactivation. Cellular service may need to be set up again. Samsung says an LTE watch activated with a QR code may require a replacement code from its carrier: Samsung LTE troubleshooting.
- If handing the watch to someone else, remove the old pairing. After resetting, remove the watch from the phone’s Bluetooth devices as described below.
A factory reset removes watch settings and customizations, local apps and app data, pairing information, and on-watch personal content. Do not assume that resetting the watch deletes copies already synchronized to an account or other service.
Choose the right kind of reset
| Situation | Use | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| The watch is slow or has a minor glitch | Restart | Turns the watch off and on without erasing personal data. |
| The screen or controls are frozen | Force restart | Forces a reboot without deliberately wiping the watch. |
| You are selling it, giving it away, starting over, or removing a forgotten lock | Factory reset | Erases watch data and restores default settings. |
| The watch cannot boot normally | Recovery-mode factory reset | Erases the watch from its recovery menu. |
| The watch is lost or cannot be reached physically | Remote erase | Requests an erase through SmartThings Find if the watch is registered and reachable. |
If the goal is only to clear a temporary freeze, try a force restart before wiping the watch. A forgotten lock can be removed by resetting, but unsynchronized data will not be preserved; if the watch is still accessible, back up or sync first. See Samsung’s forgotten-password guidance.

Reset the Galaxy Watch7 from its Settings
This is the straightforward method when the watch responds to touch. Samsung’s general path for supported Galaxy Watch models is below; wording can differ by software version.
- Wake and unlock the watch if needed.
- Open Settings.
- Tap General, then Reset.
- Review the warning and tap the checkmark or other confirmation control.
- Follow any remaining prompts, then leave the watch alone while it erases and reboots.
When the welcome or setup screen appears, the reset is complete. Do not repeatedly press buttons or interrupt the process while it is running. Samsung’s instructions are at Galaxy Watch reset and backup.
Reset using Galaxy Wearable
Use the phone method if the watch is connected but its touchscreen is awkward to use. The usual route is:

Some software builds may omit the separate Watch settings step. If the watch cannot connect to the phone, this method may not be available; try the watch’s Settings, recovery mode, or remote erase instead. Samsung notes that menus and options vary by model and software: official reset instructions.

A force restart does not factory-reset the watch. Press and hold the Home/Power and Back buttons together until “Rebooting…” or the Samsung logo appears, then release them and wait for the restart. The hold time varies; Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance says it can take up to about 30 seconds on some devices: Samsung force-restart guidance.

Factory-reset an unusable watch in recovery mode
Use recovery only when the normal Settings and phone methods are unavailable. Samsung’s recovery screens and controls can vary by model and software version, so follow the labels shown on your watch rather than treating this sequence as universal.
- Power the watch off, then turn it back on.
- When “Rebooting…” appears, release the buttons.
- Immediately press and release the Home/Power key repeatedly to open the Reboot mode menu.
- Continue pressing the Home/Power key until Recovery is highlighted, then press and hold that key to select it.
- On the Wear OS recovery screen, choose Wipe data/factory reset, then select Factory data reset to confirm.
- When erasing finishes, choose the reboot option.
If your Watch7 shows a different recovery menu, follow the on-screen labels and do not select unrelated options. Samsung’s reset and recovery references are its reset guide and its troubleshooting guide.
Remotely erase a lost or inaccessible watch
If the watch is associated with your Samsung account and reachable through SmartThings Find, you can request an erase without holding the device:

- Next-Generation 3nm Processor: Exynos W1000 chipset delivers significantly faster performance and smoother app navigation.
- Open SmartThings Find in a browser and sign in with the Samsung account associated with the watch.
- Select the watch and choose Erase data.
- Confirm the request and enter the Samsung account password if prompted.
Remote erasure depends on account association and the watch being reachable; it is not a local reset for an offline device. If the erase cannot complete, reset the watch directly when you regain access. Samsung’s instructions are at SmartThings Find remote erase support. LTE service may also require carrier reactivation after an erase.

After a local reset, the welcome/setup screen is expected. Open Galaxy Wearable on a compatible phone and pair the watch again as a new or reset device. Restore a backup if the setup flow offers one, then check for watch and Galaxy Wearable updates. Samsung recommends checking for updates after troubleshooting: Samsung update and reconnection guidance.
Set up notifications, Samsung Health, apps, watch faces, permissions, and wallet features as needed. If cellular service does not return on an LTE model, follow the carrier’s activation process; a replacement QR code may be needed in some cases.

Prepare the Watch7 for a new owner
- Back up any data you want to keep.
- Factory-reset the watch and wait for the welcome/setup screen.
- On the paired phone, open Settings → Connections → Bluetooth, tap the gear icon beside the watch, and choose Unpair.
- Confirm that the watch no longer displays the previous owner’s personal data or account before handing it over.
Samsung advises unpairing the Bluetooth connection when transferring a watch: Samsung reset and handoff guidance.
If the reset or restart does not work
- The watch will not turn on: Charge it with the supplied or compatible charging equipment and allow time for the battery to recover. A fully depleted watch may vibrate before the display appears. If charging and a force restart fail, the cause may be hardware rather than something a reset can fix. See Samsung’s troubleshooting steps.
- A button is stuck or damaged: Check around the buttons for debris or residue, but do not force a damaged control. If it prevents restarting or navigating recovery, contact Samsung service; see Samsung’s button and service guidance.
- The watch will not connect to the phone: The Galaxy Wearable reset route may be unavailable. Use the watch’s Settings if accessible. If Bluetooth pairing appears corrupted, unpair the watch from the phone before trying to reconnect; Samsung notes an existing Bluetooth connection can interfere with some reset workflows: Samsung connection troubleshooting.
- Recovery fails or the watch keeps boot-looping: Check the on-screen recovery labels carefully. If reset does not resolve the issue, or physical damage prevents using the controls, Samsung service may be needed. See boot-loop guidance.
These paths cover the Galaxy Watch7 family, but feature availability and exact labels can vary by country, software, phone, and carrier. Samsung’s regional restart and reset guidance and Galaxy Watch7 support page provide model-specific references.
