It is a display-free pair of camera-and-audio AI glasses with OpenAI and Google Gemini support, camera-based translation, ZEISS lens options and HTC’s privacy controls. Taiwan is the confirmed retail market; HTC’s U.S. pages do not currently show a direct U.S. purchase path.
What VIVE Eagle is—and is not
VIVE Eagle is HTC’s entry into the everyday AI-glasses category associated with Ray-Ban Meta. The glasses include a camera, microphones, open-ear stereo speakers and voice controls, while connecting to a companion smartphone app. They can take first-person photos and video, answer questions, play music, set reminders, record notes and translate text seen by the camera.
There is no internal display. VIVE Eagle cannot place navigation arrows, captions or notifications in your field of view, so it is an AI camera-and-audio wearable rather than an augmented-reality headset. HTC is extending its VIVE brand—better known for VR hardware—into conventional eyewear.

AI assistants and translation
HTC’s Taiwan product page advertises support for both OpenAI GPT and Google Gemini. That gives VIVE Eagle a broader stated model choice than a product tied to one assistant, although support does not establish identical features, offline operation, response quality or availability in every country.
Translation claims need a date and a feature label. Launch coverage described translation in 13 languages. HTC’s current Taiwan page advertises image translation in more than 70 languages and separately lists voice-conversation support for Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese and Cantonese. Image/text translation and spoken assistant languages are different capabilities.
Notes, phones and the cloud
VIVE Eagle can deliver spoken answers, music and phone-related functions through its companion app. HTC’s U.S. product page says VIVE AI Notes uses cloud-powered speech-to-text processing while files are encrypted and stored locally. Local storage therefore does not mean every recording or transcript is processed entirely on the glasses. Anyone handling confidential meetings should review HTC’s current privacy terms before using the notes feature.

Where VIVE Eagle has a genuine advantage
Choice of AI models
HTC’s stated OpenAI-and-Gemini approach could suit buyers who do not want to be locked into one provider. The practical value still depends on region, account requirements, software version and which features each integration supports.
Travel-oriented translation
Camera-based translation is a natural use for glasses: menus, signs and labels can be captured without holding up a phone. Confirm whether a particular language pair requires an internet connection and whether translated output is spoken through the glasses or displayed on the phone.

Eyewear rather than a headset
ZEISS lens options, adjustable nose pads and conventional frame colors—black, gray, coffee and red are listed for Taiwan—make VIVE Eagle an ordinary-glasses proposition. Total weight and prescription compatibility vary by configuration; ZEISS branding does not mean every prescription range is supported.
Specific privacy safeguards
HTC explicitly describes local storage, AES-256 encryption, a recording LED and capture shutdown when the glasses are removed or the LED is blocked. These are HTC’s stated safeguards, not an independent privacy audit. A visible LED also does not override venue rules or consent expectations.
Why buyers should hesitate
Taiwan-first distribution
HTC announced VIVE Eagle on August 14–15, 2025, with Taiwan sales from September 1, 2025, initially through Taiwan Mobile and selected 2020EYEhaus locations. As of the latest official pages available on August 18, 2026, HTC’s U.S. product page directs visitors to Taiwan experience and retail information rather than presenting a U.S. checkout or price.

The Taiwan HTC store shows a minimum price of NT$15,600 and the product page lists that amount for standard lens versions. The photochromic anti-UV model is listed at NT$19,888. Taiwan Mobile promotional bundles, including plans that reduced the device price to NT$0, are not normal unlocked pricing.
Importing one into the United States means checking warranty coverage, app-region restrictions, language support, lens fitting, replacement parts, charging accessories and return logistics before paying. Do not assume that a Taiwan purchase has U.S. service support.
Higher launch price
Launch coverage put NT$15,600 at roughly US$520–$530 at the time, above the commonly cited entry price for Ray-Ban Meta glasses. That is a Taiwan launch-price comparison, not a current U.S. retail comparison; Ray-Ban pricing changes with generation, frame and lens.

- Discreet open-ear speakers let you enjoy rich audio quality, music and calls without losing the ambient sounds of your surroundings.
No display and limited active-use battery evidence
People seeking visual navigation, captions or in-lens notifications need a display-equipped product instead. VIVE Eagle’s approximately 4.5-hour continuous-music estimate also should not be presented as all-day active battery life.
Privacy and social limits
Cameras may be prohibited in museums, schools, workplaces, courts, medical settings and private events regardless of the LED. Open-ear audio preserves awareness better than sealed headphones, but it does not make every traffic or workplace situation safe.
Who should buy VIVE Eagle?
- Taiwan-based buyers: A reasonable fit if translation, hands-free capture, ZEISS lenses and HTC’s multi-model AI positioning matter more than ecosystem size.
- International importers: Proceed only after confirming regional software, warranty, prescription and return support.
- U.S. buyers wanting convenience: Ray-Ban Meta is the safer practical choice when domestic retail access, fitting and returns are priorities. Verify the current model and price at Ray-Ban’s official U.S. page.
- Display seekers: Consider a display-equipped category instead; VIVE Eagle cannot provide visual overlays.
Neither product is appropriate for someone requiring fully offline conversational AI, uninterrupted all-day camera or audio use, or a guarantee that no audio, image or transcript ever reaches a cloud service.
Verdict
VIVE Eagle is a real product-level challenge to Ray-Ban Meta, especially for Taiwan buyers interested in translation, ZEISS eyewear and a choice between GPT and Gemini. It is not yet evidence that HTC matches Meta’s retail reach, software maturity or global support. For most U.S. readers, availability and after-sales support are the decisive issue; for Taiwan buyers, the choice comes down to whether those features justify a premium for a newer, less-established ecosystem.
