Its 46 mm lug-to-lug length and 10.50 mm thickness make it a comparatively versatile size for an everyday tool watch, while black and blue dials, leather straps and a steel bracelet broaden the styling choices.
What is the Hanhart Preventor HD12?
The Preventor HD12 is a three-hand automatic watch in Hanhart’s PIONEER line. It has central hours, minutes and seconds, a second-stop device for more precise setting, no date display and a two-position crown. The design is intentionally restrained: a smooth bezel, a clean dial and a case intended to handle regular use rather than serve as a dress-only piece.

Hanhart’s retailer launch description says the model followed more than two years of development. Retailer material also says the HD12 steel was produced exclusively with a partner in Germany’s Black Forest region to increase scratch resistance. Those are product and retailer statements; no independent laboratory test or published statistical study establishing scratch-resistance performance was located.
Size and case construction
| Specification | Documented detail |
|---|---|
| Case diameter | 39 mm |
| Thickness | 10.50 mm |
| Lug to lug | 46 mm |
| Case material | Satin, matte and polished hardened HD12 steel |
| Crystal | One-sided, internally anti-reflective sapphire |
| Bezel | Smooth |
| Case back | Screwed |
| Crown | Screw-down |
| Water resistance | 15 bar/15 ATM |
The 39 mm diameter keeps the watch from feeling oversized, while the 46 mm lug-to-lug measurement is the more useful figure for estimating how far it will span your wrist. At 10.50 mm thick, it should fit under many shirt cuffs more easily than thicker dive-style watches. Wrist shape, lug curvature and strap choice still affect the result, so these dimensions are a starting point rather than a guarantee of fit.

Movement and daily timekeeping
The documented calibre is Sellita’s SW 200-1. It runs at 28,800 A/h (4 Hz), uses 26 jewels and provides at least 38 hours of power reserve. The hacking, or second-stop, function lets the seconds hand stop when the crown is pulled to the setting position. There is no date mechanism to adjust, which simplifies the dial and removes one routine correction.
The available documentation does not establish a chronometer certification, a manufacturer accuracy tolerance for this specific watch, or independent timing results. The 4 Hz frequency and SW 200-1 architecture identify the movement, but they should not be treated as proof that every example will achieve a particular daily rate.
How robust is it for everyday use?
Crystal and case protection
Sapphire crystal is highly resistant to everyday scratching compared with mineral glass, and the internally applied anti-reflective coating is intended to reduce reflections from the inside surface. The case uses hardened HD12 steel, with a mix of satin, matte and polished finishing. The hardening is a practical part of the watch’s positioning, but the retailer claims about improved scratch resistance have not been independently quantified.
Water resistance
The 15 bar/15 ATM rating, screw-down crown and screwed case back give the HD12 a substantial water-resistance specification for an everyday watch. Water resistance is a case rating, not a promise that any watch is permanently waterproof: seals age, crowns must be fully secured, and water-resistance testing is advisable after case work or a significant impact. The rating alone does not establish suitability for saturation diving.
Dial, strap and bracelet choices
Retail listings document black and blue dials. Buyers can choose leather straps in several colors or a stainless-steel bracelet, depending on the configuration and market. An authorized dealer identifies the blue-dial model on light-brown leather as reference 792.870-7210 and lists additional strap choices.

- Black dial: the most understated option and the configuration shown by one German specialist retailer.
- Blue dial: adds color without changing the core case and movement specification.
- Leather: offers a lighter, more traditional everyday appearance, with several documented colors.
- Steel bracelet: provides a more continuous metal-tool-watch look and may be preferable for frequent water exposure, subject to the exact supplied configuration.
Because dial and strap combinations are sold as distinct references, verify the reference number, included strap or bracelet and lug-fit details before ordering.

Public retailer pages show different prices by market and configuration:
| Market and listing | Displayed price | Availability note |
|---|---|---|
| German specialist retailer, black 39 mm model | €1,140 sale price | Sale pricing is retailer-specific and should be rechecked. |
| Authorized dealer, documented variants | £995 | Confirm the exact dial and strap reference, taxes and delivery terms. |
| Korean retailer, black 39 mm model | 2,140,000 Korean won, reduced from 2,210,000 won | The page was marked sold out when crawled. |
These figures are market-specific snapshots rather than a single global price. Currency conversion, VAT or sales tax, import charges, shipping and warranty handling can materially change the amount a buyer pays. Stock also changes, so confirm current availability directly with an authorized or established specialist seller.
Who is the HD12 best suited to?
Choose it if you want
- A moderate 39 mm case with a 46 mm lug-to-lug span.
- An automatic, no-date layout using the widely documented SW 200-1 platform.
- Sapphire crystal, a screw-down crown and 15 bar water resistance for general daily wear.
- A choice between black or blue dials and leather or steel wearing options.
- A hardened-steel case concept, while accepting that independent scratch testing is not documented.
Look more closely at alternatives if you need
- Certified chronometer accuracy or published independent timing results.
- A substantially longer power reserve than the documented minimum of 38 hours.
- A smaller or larger case than the 39 mm/46 mm combination.
- A confirmed bracelet, dial or regional warranty arrangement that is not included with the reference you are considering.
Buying checklist
- Confirm the exact reference, dial color and whether the package includes leather, bracelet or both.
- Check the seller’s current stock, return window, warranty issuer and service route.
- Verify the final delivered price in your country, including tax, shipping and any import fees.
- Ask whether the watch has current water-resistance testing if it is pre-owned, serviced or has been opened.
- Compare the 39 mm diameter, 46 mm lug-to-lug length and 10.50 mm thickness with a watch that already fits you.
Verdict
The Preventor HD12 has the essential ingredients of a capable everyday mechanical watch: wearable proportions, a familiar automatic movement, sapphire crystal, hardened steel, screw-down hardware and a 15 bar rating. Its strongest practical advantage is the balance between compact dimensions and robust specifications. The main qualifications are that retailer claims about HD12 scratch resistance are not independently measured, movement accuracy is not specified, and price and stock vary by country. For buyers who value a clean, no-date 39 mm tool-watch format and can verify the exact configuration, it is a credible all-rounder rather than a watch whose performance claims should be exaggerated.
