The MAEN x Nico Leonard Grand Tonneau Jump Hour is a sold-out 2025 collaboration that displays the hour in a jumping numeral window and the minutes on a rotating disc. Its original price was €999 ex VAT, and MAEN’s one-week, built-to-order sale is closed.
What is the MAEN x Nico Leonard Jump Hour?
This is MAEN’s first Jump Hour collaboration with watch commentator Nico Leonard. The model is named the Grand Tonneau Jump Hour and was offered in three variants: MNL.01, MNL.02 and MNL.03. The dial uses a window for the hour numeral and a separate rotating minute display rather than conventional hour and minute hands. A Pride & Pinion submark appears on the crown.
The published information does not state a production quantity, so “limited edition” should be understood as a restricted collaboration rather than a confirmed numbered run.
How the jumping-hour display works
A conventional mechanical watch moves its hour hand continuously around the dial. In a jumping-hour design, the hour is shown as a numeral that changes discretely at the top of each hour, while the minutes are carried by a rotating disc.

- Minutes: The minute display rotates continuously through the hour.
- Hour change: At 60 minutes, the mechanism advances the hour numeral to the next indication.
- Reading the time: Read the numeral in the hour window, then read the rotating minute indication beside it.
This arrangement gives the watch a digital-like hour change while retaining a mechanical, continuously moving minute display. It is distinctive, but it can take longer to read at a glance than a familiar pair of hands.
Movement and timekeeping architecture
MAEN describes the calibre as an in-house modified automatic Sea-Gull ST1721. The published specification lists 20 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and approximately 38 hours of power reserve. MAEN says each movement is tested in-house for two weeks before assembly.

The 38-hour reserve is typical of a compact mechanical movement from this category, but it means the watch will usually stop after roughly a day and a half off the wrist. The jumping-hour complication is the defining feature; the available specifications do not claim chronometer certification or a stated accuracy tolerance.
Case, crystal and water resistance
The case measures 34 mm in diameter, 9.7 mm thick and 45 mm from lug to lug. It is made from 316L stainless steel and topped with a sapphire crystal. A screwed closed back protects the movement, and the stated water resistance is 5 ATM.

Those dimensions place the watch on the compact side of contemporary sports-watch sizing. The 45 mm lug-to-lug measurement should help it sit neatly on smaller and medium wrists, while the 9.7 mm thickness keeps the tonneau profile relatively restrained. 5 ATM is suitable for everyday splashes and surface water, but it is not a specification to treat as a dedicated diving rating.
Strap and clasp
The custom integrated strap is made from FKM rubber and tapers from 20 mm at the case to 16 mm at the clasp. It uses a quick-release system, so the strap can be removed without a conventional spring-bar tool. Color choices are black, green and white.

The 316L stainless-steel butterfly clasp has perlage decoration and micro-adjustment. Because the strap is integrated into the case design, replacement choices may be more limited than on a watch with standard straight lugs; confirm compatible parts before buying a pre-owned example.

The official public pre-order window ran from 16:00 CET on April 7, 2025, through 23:59 CET on April 13, 2025. MAEN described the watches as built to order and said the collection would not be re-released. The current product status is pre-order closed.
Can you still buy one?
Not from the original MAEN pre-order. The stated sales window has ended, and the brand’s no-re-release position means a new production run should not be assumed. A buyer now has to find an owner willing to sell.
What to verify on a secondary-market example
- Confirm that the watch is the MAEN x Nico Leonard Grand Tonneau Jump Hour, not another MAEN model.
- Match the reference or variant (MNL.01, MNL.02 or MNL.03) and verify the dial, crown marking and strap color.
- Request clear photographs of the jumping-hour window, minute disc, case, clasp and closed back.
- Check that the quick-release integrated strap and butterfly clasp are included, since replacements may not be readily interchangeable.
- Ask for the original order confirmation, invoice or other provenance; the original price was quoted ex VAT, so tax treatment varies by transaction and location.
- Have the movement’s winding, automatic rotor, hour jump and minute display checked by a watchmaker before payment when possible.
Is it worth finding one on the secondary market?
It is most compelling for someone who specifically wants a compact mechanical jumping-hour watch and values the Nico Leonard collaboration. The unusual display, sapphire crystal, two-week in-house movement testing claim and restrained 34 mm dimensions give it a clear identity at its €999 ex-VAT launch level.
The purchase is less straightforward if you need conventional instant legibility, extensive water resistance, abundant replacement straps or easily available factory service. The movement is a modified Sea-Gull calibre, the reserve is approximately 38 hours, the strap is integrated, and the original sale is closed. A pre-owned premium over €999 ex VAT should therefore be judged against condition, completeness, seller reputation and documented service rather than scarcity alone.

- Look for one: You enjoy jumping-hour mechanics, prefer smaller cases and are comfortable buying a discontinued collaboration.
- Proceed carefully: The seller cannot document provenance, the hour-change mechanism is inconsistent, or the integrated strap and clasp are missing.
- Pass: You want a conventional hand display, a diving-capable water-resistance rating or widely available parts and straps.
Verdict
The MAEN x Nico Leonard Grand Tonneau Jump Hour is a genuinely distinctive limited collaboration rather than a standard three-hand watch with a decorative twist. Its 34 mm case, sapphire crystal, modified automatic movement and unusual hour-window display made the original €999 ex-VAT offer coherent. Since the April 2025 built-to-order window is closed and MAEN says it will not be re-released, any current purchase depends on a properly authenticated secondary-market example. Buy for the jumping-hour experience and compact design, not on an assumption of guaranteed appreciation.
