The Seiko Prospex SPB473J1 is a European-market limited edition of the brand’s 1965 diver recreation, distinguished by a vivid white-to-blue dial inspired by Greece’s Ionian islands and an extra white silicone strap. Seiko’s UK Boutique lists the edition at 1,000 pieces. Its 40.5 mm steel case, 200 m-rated water resistance and 70-hour automatic movement give the colorful design practical substance, too.
What is the Seiko SPB473?
The SPB473J1 is a Prospex 1965 Recreation diver in a special “gradation island blue” treatment. Seiko says the dial takes inspiration from the Greek Ionian islands; launch coverage describes its wave-like texture and white-to-blue gradient as drawing on Zakynthos. The result is a brighter, more resort-like take on the 1965 diver design than a conventional black-dial tool watch.
Seiko Boutique UK identifies it as a Prospex Limited Edition 1965 Recreation. Fratello reported that the edition was made for the European market only. That makes “European exclusive” a description of the reported launch distribution, not a guarantee that every example remains in Europe or that it is still available there.
How many SPB473 watches were made?
Seiko Boutique UK states that production is limited to 1,000 pieces. The listing establishes the stated edition size, but does not establish how many remain unsold or what the watch currently trades for.

These are the published specifications, not independent performance-test results. In particular, the stated accuracy range is not a claim that every individual watch will keep time at a specific point in that range. A 200 m rating is a watch specification, not a substitute for appropriate dive training or a guarantee of suitability for every dive.
What comes with the SPB473?
The package pairs a stainless steel bracelet with an additional white silicone strap; Fratello’s launch report also mentions a blue gift box. Seiko lists the lug width as 20.0 mm, which is useful when considering alternatives, but width alone does not confirm that every 20 mm strap will fit correctly. End shape, spring-bar position and case clearance can matter.

How does the SPB473 compare with the SPB453?
The SPB453 belongs to the SPB451/SPB453 refresh announced by Seiko in March 2024, based on the SPB143. It is a useful close comparison because both are Prospex divers, but the published specifications show meaningful differences rather than a simple upgrade-versus-downgrade choice.

The SPB453 has a two-hour longer stated reserve, a higher stated water-resistance rating and slightly smaller published dimensions. The SPB473’s distinguishing appeal is its limited blue-gradient presentation and additional white strap. Which matters more depends on whether you prioritize those specifications or the edition’s specific look and package; the figures alone do not establish that one is objectively better.

What did the SPB473 cost, and is it available now?
Fratello reported a European launch price of €1,500 and sales beginning September 1, 2024. Seiko Boutique UK displayed £1,290 when accessed in 2026. Those are different market and date contexts: neither figure guarantees today’s local price, remaining authorized-dealer stock or resale value. Check a current authorized Seiko seller in your region for availability and price.

What to check before buying
- Confirm the full reference, SPB473J1, and that the listing is for the limited island-blue edition rather than a visually similar Seiko diver.
- Ask the seller to confirm that the white silicone strap and other stated package items are included, especially for a pre-owned watch.
- Compare the 40.5 mm diameter, 47.6 mm case length and 13.2 mm thickness with a watch you already know fits you; the diameter alone does not describe how a case will sit on your wrist.
- If considering a replacement strap, verify its end shape and clearance as well as the stated 20 mm lug width.
