It is Seiko’s modern reinterpretation of the late-1960s Navigator Timer associated with reference 6117-8000, combining a compact steel case with a 24-hour GMT hand and bidirectional bezel.
What the SPB411J1 is
Seiko positions the SPB411 as a Prospex Land Mechanical GMT and says its design follows the compact proportions and sports character of the late-1960s Navigator Timer as closely as possible. The exact watch reference is SPB411J1. Distribution began in November 2023 through Seiko boutiques, Seiko’s online boutique and selected retailers.
It is a limited edition of 4,000 pieces worldwide. That number describes the production run, not a guarantee of a particular watch’s present-day availability or resale value.
Is it a true reissue of the 1968 Navigator Timer?
It is best described as a modern reinterpretation rather than a component-for-component replica. Specialist coverage connects the historical model to the late-1960s 6117-8000 Navigator Timer, while Seiko emphasizes fidelity to the original’s design language and compact dimensions. The SPB411 adds contemporary materials, a newer movement and modern water-resistance and manufacturing standards.

Movement and GMT operation
The watch uses Seiko’s 6R54 automatic movement. It can also be wound by hand and stores up to 72 hours (three days) of power. The movement has 24 jewels.
Displayed functions
- Hours, minutes and central seconds
- Date
- Central 24-hour GMT hand
- Bidirectional 24-hour bezel
The 24-hour hand provides a second time-zone indication against the 24-hour bezel. Because the bezel is bidirectional, it can also be used as a simple elapsed-time or additional offset reference, but it does not provide the one-way safety behavior of a dive bezel. The available specifications do not establish an independently adjustable local-hour hand, so the SPB411 should not be assumed to offer the same “caller” or “flyer” GMT behavior as watches with that feature.
Rank #2
- Screw-down crown, screw, see-through caseback, 70 hour power reserve, magnified date window, LumiBrite hands and markers
Case, bracelet and everyday wear
The stainless-steel case measures 38.5 mm across, 45.2 mm from lug to lug and 12.6 mm thick. Those dimensions keep the watch relatively compact for a mechanical GMT, while the 45.2 mm span is the measurement most likely to determine how it sits on a smaller wrist.
Seiko pairs the case with a stainless-steel bracelet and a box-shaped sapphire crystal treated with inner anti-reflective coating. LumiBrite is used for low-light legibility. A screw case back and 10 bar water resistance (100 metres) support normal swimming and daily wear when the crown, case back and seals are correctly secured; this is not presented as a professional dive watch.

Launch pricing and what it does—and does not—tell you
Original pricing varied by market. Fratello reported a US launch price of US$1,500; Seiko’s Danish release listed 13,295 DKK; and a German-language Seiko release listed €1,700. These are publication-time launch prices from 2023, not current resale quotations.
Availability, seller authenticity, current stock and resale value can change independently of those launch figures. Buyers should verify the reference, warranty, included bracelet and seller status with a Seiko boutique or an authorized specialist retailer rather than treating an old launch price as a present market value.

Who the SPB411J1 suits
- Choose it for historical character: the design directly references Seiko’s Navigator Timer lineage without requiring a vintage movement or fragile vintage components.
- Choose it for a compact GMT: 38.5 mm is restrained by modern GMT standards, and the 72-hour reserve is practical for weekend wear.
- Choose it for a limited edition: only 4,000 pieces were announced worldwide.
- Look elsewhere if you need a true independently jumping local-hour GMT: the published specification identifies a central 24-hour hand, but does not state that the local hour hand is independently adjustable.
- Look elsewhere for dive-watch use: 10 bar resistance and a bidirectional 24-hour bezel are suited to general water exposure, not the specialized requirements of a dive timer.
Buying checklist
- Confirm the dial, case and paperwork identify the watch as SPB411J1, not a visually similar Seiko GMT.
- Ask whether the piece is new, previously worn or serviced; the 2023 launch status does not establish its current condition.
- Verify that the stainless-steel bracelet and original warranty documentation are included when advertised.
- Check the seller’s authorization and return terms before payment.
- Compare any asking price with the original market-specific launch prices, while recognizing that those figures are not current resale valuations.
The Bottom Line
The SPB411J1 is a carefully sized, 4,000-piece Prospex GMT that carries the visual identity of Seiko’s late-1960s Navigator Timer into a modern 6R54 package. Its strongest case is historical design, a three-day reserve and compact wearability—not a claim to be an untouched vintage replica or a professional dive instrument.
