The IWC Ingenieur Automatic 42 in black ceramic is reference IW338903, introduced in 2025 as the first full-ceramic version of the modern integrated-bracelet Ingenieur. It pairs a 42 mm zirconium-oxide ceramic case and bracelet with IWC’s automatic calibre 82110, a 60-hour power reserve and 10-bar water resistance.
What is the black ceramic IWC Ingenieur?
IW338903 is the reference for the black-ceramic Ingenieur Automatic 42. IWC introduced it at Watches and Wonders Geneva on 1 April 2025. The design carries forward the modern Gérald Genta-derived Ingenieur integrated-bracelet form, itself connected to Genta’s 1970s Ingenieur SL.
It is a full-ceramic execution of that design: the case ring, bezel, case-back ring, crown protection, crown and integrated bracelet are made from black zirconium-oxide ceramic. An internal titanium ring supports the movement and functional screws within the multi-part case.
Live photos: what to look for
IWC’s product images show the watch from multiple angles, while the company’s assembly video reveals more of the case construction and finishing. The different surfaces make a difference in person: satin-finished, sandblasted and polished areas reflect light differently, so the black watch can look more or less reflective depending on studio, daylight or wrist lighting.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Front: Look at the dial and bezel together to see how the dark surfaces frame the face.
- Side: A side view shows the case profile and the protected crown.
- Rear: The tinted sapphire display back gives a view of the movement.
- Bracelet and clasp: Check the bracelet’s links and clasp, as well as how the bracelet meets the case.
- Close-ups: Bezel-screw and crown-protection views help show the model’s distinctive case details.
- On the wrist: Wrist photographs give a better sense of scale and show how the finish changes outside controlled lighting.
The bracelet attaches through its middle links, a construction intended to preserve the design’s ergonomic profile. The multi-part ceramic case and internal titanium ring allow the proportions to stay faithful to the stainless-steel Ingenieur design.

Movement, functions and water resistance
Calibre 82110 is self-winding and uses IWC’s Pellaton system, with ceramic components in high-stress areas. IWC specifies a 4 Hz frequency and a 60-hour power reserve. The dial includes a date display, and the central seconds hand stops when the crown is pulled for setting. The watch is rated to 10 bar; that is its published water-resistance rating, not a claim that every activity or water condition is suitable.

How the ceramic design differs
The ceramic construction is the defining difference from steel or titanium versions of the Ingenieur. Ceramic is known for scratch resistance, but that does not make a watch indestructible; a hard impact can damage ceramic. IWC’s published information identifies the materials and finishing but provides no measured comparative weights, independent scratch tests, or quantified comfort comparison against steel or titanium models.
Finishing is especially important to the appearance: satin surfaces, sandblasted areas and polished edges create contrast without changing the all-black material palette. The bracelet’s middle-link attachment is intended to support ergonomics, though an individual fit depends on wrist shape and sizing.
