Jenny was a small Swiss watchmaker whose case engineering reached far beyond its own name on a dial. Its collaboration with Ollech & Wajs produced the Caribbean 1000, while Jenny-built watches and cases also appeared under other brands. That makes Jenny an important part of dive-watch history—and a name worth knowing when assessing a vintage watch.
What was Jenny Watches?
Jenny was a small, family-run Swiss manufacturer associated with the watchmaker Paul G. Jenny. Project Watch’s reference history dates the company’s formation to 1963. Rather than becoming widely recognized as a consumer brand, Jenny made watches and cases that other Swiss companies sold under their own names.
Ollech & Wajs describes Jenny as a business that manufactured, finished and assembled dive watches for other Swiss watch companies. Jenny’s contribution was therefore often hidden in the case and construction rather than advertised on the dial. Watches or cases associated with Jenny appeared under names including Ollech & Wajs, DOXA, Aquadive, Philip Watch and Fortis.
Why is the Caribbean 1000 important?
A monobloc case built for depth
The Caribbean 1000 grew from Jenny’s one-piece case design, which Ollech & Wajs licensed for the watch. The case was milled from a single block of stainless steel and had an enclosed back. Because the construction avoided a conventional removable case back, it reduced exposure to one common gasket interface. It did not make the watch invulnerable: the crown, crystal and other seals still mattered.

Ollech & Wajs’s official history says the Caribbean 1000 launched in 1964 with a certified depth rating of 1,000 metres (3,300 feet). The company called its case “Triple-Safe.” Its history of the early model also identifies an ETA 2452 automatic movement. The rating is a historical specification for the watch as certified at the time, not evidence that an individual vintage example remains water-resistant today.
Jenny’s role in the collaboration
Ollech & Wajs supplied the branded watch; Jenny supplied the distinctive case engineering under license. This division of work helps explain why a milestone associated with the Caribbean 1000 is also a milestone in Jenny’s history. DOXA’s historical publication credits Jenny’s engineering with getting to the 1,000-metre mark ahead of the major players, but that statement is DOXA’s retrospective account, not an independently presented comparison of every contemporary watch certification.

Was Jenny really the first to make a 1,000-metre dive watch?
The strongest carefully qualified answer is that the 1964 Ollech & Wajs Caribbean 1000 was an early commercially available 1,000-metre dive watch, and its official history records a certified 1,000-metre rating. DOXA’s historical publication goes further, saying Jenny “beat all of the major players” to that depth. That is a notable claim from a company with a later family connection to Jenny, but it should be attributed rather than treated as an uncontested, independently verified ranking.
“First” can refer to different things: a prototype, a tested or certified watch, a model announced to the public, or one customers could actually buy. The available accounts support the Caribbean 1000’s early commercial place and its stated certified rating; they do not provide a complete, independently audited chronology of every rival’s development, certification and sales. Calling it one of the first commercially available watches rated to 1,000 metres is more defensible than presenting an absolute first-place claim without qualification.

What does Jenny have to do with DOXA and other brands?
Jenny’s case-making reached beyond Ollech & Wajs. The DOXA historical publication describes Jenny as producing monobloc cases for multiple watchmakers, and historical examples associated with Jenny also bear the names Aquadive, Philip Watch and Fortis. A different dial signature therefore does not rule out Jenny engineering, although the brand name alone cannot establish the provenance of a particular watch.
The relationship with DOXA later became direct at the ownership level. DOXA’s historical book says the Jenny family acquired DOXA in 1997 and helped revive its SUB line in 2002. That connects Jenny’s relatively obscure case-making history with a better-known dive-watch line, but it does not mean that every DOXA SUB is a Jenny-made watch or uses the Caribbean 1000 case.

Jenny also pursued decompression-bezel work. Project Watch reports a later US patent, number 3,613,354, for a decompression bezel, and identifies Swiss patent 5292/68 in connection with the Triple-Safe case. These patent references point to work beyond ordinary elapsed-time bezels; the precise operation and performance of a particular bezel should not be inferred without examining that watch and the relevant patent details.

A vintage Caribbean 1000 may carry the Ollech & Wajs name rather than Jenny on its dial, consistent with the licensed, private-label nature of the collaboration. Identification should rest on the complete watch and its reference, case construction, movement and component details—not on a dial name or a seller’s description alone. The cited reference table is useful for comparison, but dimensions and parts can vary through production, replacement or later modification.
What to check before buying or handling one
- Confirm the reference and inspect whether the case has the expected one-piece, enclosed-back construction.
- Check the bezel, crystal, crown and movement for condition, originality and service history; replacement parts can affect both authenticity and function.
- Measure the actual lug width before ordering a strap. The published reference figure is 18 mm, but verify the individual watch.
- Do not treat the historical depth rating as current permission to put a vintage watch in water. Have it inspected, serviced as appropriate and pressure-tested by a qualified watchmaker before any exposure.
No audited total production figure is established in the cited histories, so claims about how many Caribbean 1000s or Jenny watches were made should be treated cautiously.
