What are the Iwao Ginkai and Iwao Sumi?
The Iwao is a two-variant watch from Kiwame Tokyo. The Ginkai has a silver dial; the Sumi has a black dial. Both use a textured, rock-like center, a smoother satin-finished outer ring, and applied Arabic numerals and indexes. Luminous pencil-style hour and minute hands complete the layout.

Sumi: black and more understated
Fratello describes the Sumi as more contemporary and stealthier. That darker effect comes with a legibility trade-off noted by reviewers: Fratello’s author found the polished markers could blend into the black dial at certain angles, and Oracle of Time also found the Ginkai easier to read. These are subjective observations, not controlled measurements; lighting and wrist angle can affect what stands out.

The 38 mm diameter is only one part of fit: the 46 mm lug-to-lug measurement describes how far the case spans across the wrist, and the 9.5 mm thickness indicates its profile. Compare all three figures with a watch you already wear comfortably rather than relying on diameter alone.
Fratello lists a black calfskin strap, stainless-steel pin buckle, and 20 mm strap width. Oracle of Time describes the strap as Italian calf leather with quick release. If changing straps, check the attachment style and width on your specific watch before ordering; width alone does not establish compatibility.

What do the official listings say about price and stock?
On October 4, 2026, Kiwame Tokyo’s English catalog displayed ¥92,400 for each watch and marked both “Sold out.” Its USD-currency display showed $690 each, also sold out. The Japanese Iwao collection page likewise listed both variants as sold out. These are catalog displays at the check date, not confirmed transaction prices or a promise of future availability.
Fratello’s December 18, 2025 launch coverage reported a US$690 price excluding taxes and said the watches would be available through the brand website from December 25, 2025. That is historical launch information; the official catalog’s later sold-out labels are the relevant status in the checked listings.
