Presented at Geneva Watch Days on August 29, 2024, it was reported as thinner than Bulgari’s 1.7 mm Octo Finissimo Ultra. The claim is best understood as a dated comparison between two exceptionally thin mechanical wristwatches—not as an undated record across every mechanical-watch category.
How thin is the ThinKing?
Chaykin lists the ThinKing at 1.65 mm thick, 40 mm in diameter and 12.7 g without its strap. Those are the manufacturer’s specifications, not independent measurements. Its scale is unusual even among ultra-thin watches: the stated thickness is for the complete watch, rather than just its movement.
The comparison that accompanied its 2024 presentation was Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo Ultra, which WatchTime listed at 1.7 mm in September 2024. On those reported dimensions, the ThinKing prototype is 0.05 mm thinner. That comparison is dated; it should not be read as a fresh survey of every watch or as a claim covering movements, tourbillons, prototypes and production watches indiscriminately.
How does its mechanical movement work?
The K.23-0 is an in-house movement integrated into the watch’s case, with the caseback serving as its mainplate. Chaykin specifies 204 parts and 51 jewels. Its display follows the maker’s Joker design, with separate hour and minute indications.

Double balance and rate
The movement uses a double balance wheel with a gear clutch, which Chaykin identifies as a patented invention. The manufacturer also lists a Swiss anchor escapement and a rate of 18,000 vibrations per hour. These are design and specification details, not evidence here of an independently tested accuracy result.
Barrel and power reserve
A single ultra-thin winding barrel supplies the stated 32-hour power reserve. Chaykin describes the barrel design as patent-pending. The relatively short reserve is one of the trade-offs to keep in mind when considering a watch engineered around minimal thickness.

How do you wind and set the ThinKing?
The watch can be wound manually with a special key. Chaykin also designed the titanium PalanKing carrier case to handle winding and time setting: when the ThinKing is placed inside, the PalanKing’s K.23-1 movement provides automatic winding, as well as manual winding and time-setting functions.
The PalanKing is a separate, purpose-built accessory rather than an ordinary watch box. The manufacturer specifies it at 45 mm in diameter and 5.4 mm thick with the ThinKing placed on it. The carrier therefore adds a practical way to operate and protect the unusually thin watch, while making clear that the bare watch is not designed around conventional winding and setting controls.

What engineering makes 1.65 mm possible?
The ThinKing’s thinness depends on more than a shallow movement. Chaykin describes a purpose-built case construction, the integrated movement and its single ultra-thin barrel. The watch also uses two sapphire crystals, each specified as 0.35 mm thick and 10.4 mm in diameter.
Its strap is similarly specialized: black alligator leather with elastic inserts and flexible titanium supports. This construction is intended to accommodate the watch’s delicate proportions. The maker’s specifications do not establish independent durability, comfort or water-resistance results, so the dimensions alone should not be taken as proof that it can be worn like a conventional everyday watch.

The ThinKing Final Prototype was presented at Geneva Watch Days on August 29, 2024. Phillips announced a ThinKing prototype for the Geneva Watch Auction XXI, held May 10–11, 2025, with viewing from May 7–11. Chaykin’s manufacture timeline reports that the ThinKing and PalanKing set sold for CHF 508,000 at that auction. That is a historical result for the set, not a current asking price or a price guide for other examples.

The available information does not establish a current retail price, production quantity or present availability for the Final Prototype. Its auction appearance shows specialist collector interest; it does not demonstrate routine retail availability.
