Paired Galaxy Watch: change the time-zone setting on the connected phone; the watch normally synchronizes from it. Unpaired or standalone watch: open Settings → General → Date and time on the watch and use the available time-zone controls. Menus vary by model, region, connection state and software version.
Samsung documents this paired-versus-standalone distinction in its time troubleshooting guide and Galaxy Watch guide.
First, identify which situation applies

An LTE watch is not automatically independent: a cellular model can still use phone synchronization while paired. Samsung also warns that available settings differ among watches and software versions.
Change the time zone on a paired Galaxy Watch
On many Samsung Galaxy phones, automatic settings are the safest choice for travel because the network can update the phone when you enter another country. Samsung’s phone instructions are from its UK support site, so labels can differ by One UI version, carrier and region.

- Open Settings on the phone.
- Tap General management, then Date and time.
- Enable Automatic date and time.
- Enable Automatic time zone, if that switch is shown.
- Give the phone network connectivity or the location/network information it needs to detect the new zone.
- Confirm that the phone itself displays the correct local time.
- Open Galaxy Wearable, or wake the watch, and allow it to reconnect and synchronize.

Set the phone’s time zone manually
Use manual selection when automatic detection is unavailable or wrong. It is usually better to restore automatic settings after the problem is resolved.
- Go to Settings → General management → Date and time.
- Turn off Automatic date and time if the phone will not allow manual changes.
- Turn off Automatic time zone, if present.
- Tap Select time zone.
- Choose Region, then select the region where you are currently located.
- Verify the phone’s displayed time.
- Reconnect through Galaxy Wearable and wait for the watch to synchronize.
A selected zone that observes daylight saving should change on the applicable date, although legacy models and regional software may behave differently.

Change it directly on an unpaired or standalone watch
Manual watch-side controls are mainly intended for a watch that is not paired with a smartphone. On the watch:

- Wake the watch and open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Date and time.
- Choose the available time zone, date or time option.
- Select the current region or time zone and confirm the displayed time.
If the fields are missing, greyed out or marked as synchronized, the watch is probably taking its clock from a paired phone. Samsung’s instructions state that manual date and time changes may be available only when the watch and smartphone are not paired. Older Gear models can expose different controls.
Automatic time, time zone and display format are different
- Automatic date and time: obtains the clock from network information where supported.
- Automatic time zone: determines which regional offset and daylight-saving rules apply.
- 24-hour format: changes presentation only; it does not change the zone or actual time.
- Dual-time watch face: shows another zone while leaving the primary clock unchanged.
If network information is wrong, an automatically set watch can also be wrong. Where the model permits it, turn automatic time off and enter the values manually; otherwise correct the paired phone first.

If the watch still shows the old time zone
- Check that the phone, not just the watch, shows the correct local time.
- Recheck the phone’s Automatic date and time and Automatic time zone switches.
- Confirm that the phone has mobile, Wi-Fi or other required network connectivity.
- Open Galaxy Wearable and wait for the watch to reconnect.
- Restart the watch.
- Restart the phone if synchronization remains stuck.
- On a standalone watch, revisit Settings → General → Date and time, especially if it was powered off for an extended period.
- Back up the watch and consider a factory reset only as a final measure.
Samsung lists reset as a later troubleshooting step and warns that it erases watch data. Back up first. Samsung Community guidance also points users to the phone’s automatic time settings when a connected watch fails to synchronize: community troubleshooting example.
Why a phone and watch can disagree
- The phone is still set to the previous zone.
- Automatic detection has not updated yet.
- Network connectivity is poor or unavailable.
- The watch is operating standalone or was disconnected.
- The watch was powered off for a long time.
- An older Gear model uses different synchronization behavior.
- The watch face shows a dual-time complication rather than the primary local clock.
- The selected region applies different daylight-saving rules.
Need to see another zone instead of changing the clock?
Keep the primary clock on local time when alarms, reminders, schedules and time-stamped activities should follow where you are. Add a dual-time watch face or complication to display home, office or destination time. Samsung describes this “Dual Time Watch” concept for viewing multiple zones in its Galaxy Watch design material. The exact option depends on the installed watch face and software.

Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Wear OS models and older Gear watches do not necessarily use identical labels. Samsung’s current product pages identify newer watches such as Galaxy Watch8 as Wear OS Powered by Samsung, but that does not establish a universal menu. If a path differs, search the watch’s Settings for Date and time, check whether it is paired, and use the phone as the authoritative setting when synchronization is active.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t I change the time zone on my Samsung Watch?
When the watch is paired, its clock is normally controlled by the phone, so watch-side fields may be unavailable. Change the phone’s Date and time settings instead.
Can I change the time zone without my phone?
Yes, on some unpaired or standalone models. Check Settings → General → Date and time; Samsung does not promise the same controls on every model.
Does changing the time zone affect alarms?
Changing the primary clock can change when alarms, reminders and schedules occur. Use a dual-time display if you only need to monitor another region.

Will daylight saving time update automatically?
A correctly selected zone that observes daylight saving should update on the applicable date, but behavior can vary by region, model and software.
Do Galaxy Watch4 through Watch8 use exactly the same menu?
Not necessarily. Samsung says features and settings vary by model and software, so verify the labels on your specific watch and phone.
