The documented rollout was for the China-market NFC version of the Xiaomi Smart Band 8—not confirmed for every standard, global, or later regional model.
What firmware 1.4.178 changed
A report published on November 26, 2023 identified firmware 1.4.178 for the China NFC Xiaomi Smart Band 8. Its reported changelog contained three items:
- Automatic start and pause during cycling workouts.
- Support for an iOS device-power or battery widget.
- General bug fixes.
The version and changelog were reported by ITHome. A contemporaneous regional report said the initial release was limited to the Chinese NFC model, with global availability unconfirmed at the time (GizChina Italy).
What “iOS power widget” means on an iPhone
Xiaomi’s translated wording is inconsistent: reports call it an “iOS power widget,” “device-power widget,” or battery-widget support. In practical iPhone terms, the feature is expected to let Apple’s Batteries widget recognize the band as a connected accessory and show its remaining charge beside the iPhone and other supported accessories.

Apple describes the Batteries widget as a place to view the charge level of an iPhone and connected accessories, but Apple’s documentation does not specifically name the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 as a supported accessory: Apple’s Batteries-widget guide. Some secondary reports phrase the change as displaying the iPhone’s battery on the band. The available wording does not establish that behavior, so do not treat the update as proof that the band’s own screen mirrors the iPhone battery.

The Smart Band 8 uses Xiaomi’s Mi Fitness app, not Zepp Life, and Xiaomi lists iOS 12 or later for the device in its support material: Xiaomi Smart Band 8 FAQ. Imported Chinese bands may also have region-specific update channels, payment features, language options, and services.

How to install the firmware safely
- Open Mi Fitness on the paired iPhone.
- Tap Device, select the Smart Band 8, then tap Update.
- If a package is offered, tap the download icon.
- Mi Fitness downloads the package and transfers it to the band.
- The band installs the update and restarts automatically.
Xiaomi recommends at least 20% battery on the band, an active phone connection, close proximity between phone and band, and keeping Mi Fitness in the foreground as much as practical during the upgrade. These requirements and the update path are documented by Xiaomi at its Smart Band 8 support page. Do not manually flash firmware from another region as a routine workaround.
How to check the Apple Batteries widget
- Pair the band with the iPhone through Mi Fitness and confirm Bluetooth is enabled.
- Add Apple’s Batteries widget to the Home Screen or Today View.
- Wait for the Bluetooth connection and battery information to refresh.
- Check whether the Smart Band appears as a connected accessory with a charge percentage.

If the band does not appear
Work through these checks in order:
- In Mi Fitness, verify the exact model is the NFC China edition and check its firmware number.
- Update Mi Fitness from the App Store, then force-close and reopen it.
- Toggle Bluetooth off and on, and restart both the iPhone and band.
- Remove and re-add the iOS Batteries widget.
- Confirm the band is not still paired with another phone or companion app.
- Unpair and re-pair the band through Mi Fitness, then check for firmware again.
- If the device uses global firmware or is a standard non-NFC model, treat the missing widget as a possible regional or model limitation rather than a failed installation.
Xiaomi’s own band-side widgets are configured in Mi Fitness → Device → Widgets. Those controls are separate from Apple’s iPhone Batteries widget; see Xiaomi’s widget-configuration article.
Is the update worth pursuing?
For an owner of the China NFC band who uses an iPhone, updating through the normal Mi Fitness channel is sensible: it adds a convenient battery glance and cycling automation without changing hardware. It is a minor convenience release, not a new health or fitness platform.

Do not change firmware regions solely to chase the widget. Regional flashing can create compatibility and update problems, and the available evidence does not establish that every global device can use the feature. Community discussions also describe inconsistent widget behavior on some later or regional configurations; those reports are anecdotal, not an official compatibility guarantee (user discussion).

- The seller explains Mi Fitness compatibility and accepts returns if the regional update channel does not provide the expected feature.
- The claim concerns Apple’s Batteries widget, not just a battery percentage inside Xiaomi’s app.
Apple Watch is the safer choice for deep, predictable iPhone integration, but it costs more and is more tightly tied to Apple hardware. Other bands should be considered only after confirming that their manufacturer exposes battery data to Apple’s Batteries widget rather than only to a companion app.
The Bottom Line
Firmware 1.4.178 was a reported China-market NFC Xiaomi Smart Band 8 update that added iOS battery-widget support, cycling auto start/pause, and fixes. It should be treated as a region- and model-specific feature, not a universal Smart Band 8 capability.
