The Redmi Watch 4 software update reported on March 31, 2024, added Amazon Alexa through firmware version 2.2.80. It gives the watch voice-assistant features it did not originally offer, but Alexa activation depends on your region, account and connected phone. The update is not evidence of a new 2026 release or of improvements to battery life, sensors, GPS or display performance.
What changed in firmware 2.2.80?
The contemporaneous report identified version 2.2.80 as the Redmi Watch 4 update that introduced Amazon Alexa support: GizChina’s March 31, 2024 report. Before this update, the watch reportedly had no voice assistant.
Alexa can make hands-free requests such as timers, weather checks, reminders and compatible smart-home controls more convenient. Those examples depend on Alexa account access, internet connectivity, phone integration and regional support. The update should not be interpreted as a hardware upgrade or as proof that the watch became an independent cellular assistant.
Xiaomi’s current support pages list Alexa among the Redmi Watch 4’s supported apps and describe the voice assistant as a product feature: supported-app FAQ, global feature FAQ and basic-information FAQ. Those pages do not establish that 2.2.80 is the newest firmware available in August 2026.

Alexa is not guaranteed in every market
The rollout was described as gradual, and Xiaomi had not published a complete regional rollout announcement in the original report. A U.S. user reportedly saw Alexa on the watch but received a “not supported in your region” message.
There are four separate checks behind the feature:
- Firmware support: Alexa appears in the watch software.
- Account support: your Xiaomi and Amazon setup permits sign-in.
- Market support: Xiaomi and Amazon enable the service where you live.
- Language support: available commands and languages can vary by account and location.
An Alexa icon therefore does not prove that activation will succeed. Do not assume the watch can make calls independently, control every smart-home device or work without a phone and internet connection.
How to check and install the update
- Open Mi Fitness on the Android phone or iPhone paired with the watch.
- Confirm that the Redmi Watch 4 is connected and has synchronized.
- Open the watch’s device page and find the system-update or firmware-upgrade option. Menu wording can vary by Mi Fitness version and region.
- Install version 2.2.80 if it is offered, or install a newer version offered by Xiaomi.
- Keep the watch charged and near the phone until the installation and reboot finish.
- Open the watch’s app list and look for Alexa after the restart.
If the watch is not paired, Xiaomi’s documented path is Mi Fitness → Add Device → Add model → Redmi Watch 4: official pairing instructions.

If Alexa appears but will not activate
- Confirm that the watch is paired to the intended Xiaomi account and phone.
- Update Mi Fitness through the relevant app store, then reopen Alexa setup.
- Check that the Amazon account’s country or marketplace matches your actual location.
- Retry setup from the watch or Mi Fitness while Bluetooth and the phone connection are active.
- If the same regional message remains, treat it as a market or server-side restriction rather than a watch-setting error.
VPNs, region spoofing, sideloaded firmware and changing the Xiaomi account country are not reliable routine fixes and can create additional account or support problems.
If the firmware upgrade fails
Xiaomi’s troubleshooting guidance recommends this order:
- Restart the watch and retry the upgrade.
- Place it on its charger and ensure the battery is above 20% before trying again.
- If the failure persists, reset the watch, re-pair it in Mi Fitness and retry. A reset can erase local settings.
- After re-binding, try another phone if one is available.
- Contact Xiaomi after-sales support if the watch will not turn on after the failed upgrade.
See Xiaomi’s global failed-upgrade guidance and the equivalent regional support page. Background power restrictions on Android and many background apps on iPhone can also interfere with a stable connection; address those only after confirming the basic pairing and charging steps.

What the Redmi Watch 4 hardware still offers
Alexa is a software addition to an existing watch. Xiaomi’s global specifications list the following context:

These specifications come from Xiaomi’s feature documentation and basic-information page. They do not show that firmware 2.2.80 changed any of those capabilities.
Should you update or buy it for Alexa?
For existing owners
Install the update when Mi Fitness offers it if you want voice interaction. The practical benefit is worthwhile only if Alexa can be activated in your country and account.

For prospective buyers
Alexa makes the Redmi Watch 4 more appealing, but it is a poor choice if guaranteed Alexa access is your primary requirement. Xiaomi lists Alexa as a feature, yet does not publish a complete regional compatibility matrix, and the original rollout included a reported regional block. Confirm local support, warranty, inventory and return terms before buying from the official product page.
Do not use the old launch-era “under $110” figure as a current August 2026 price; no reliable current price is established here. Mi Fitness remains the required companion app for pairing and management, as documented by Xiaomi.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Redmi Watch 4 firmware 2.2.80 added Alexa support, but the feature is region- and account-dependent. Update when offered, verify activation locally, and do not treat the icon—or the 2024 report—as proof of universal or standalone Alexa access.
