It is not an air conditioner for a room, and it does not blow chilled air across your whole body. Sony Support describes it as “a new type of wearable thermal device that can directly cool or warm the back of the neck.”
The 2026 range consists of the compact REON POCKET 6 and the flagship REON POCKET PRO Plus. They share the same basic idea—localized contact temperature control—but differ in size, automation, accessories and intended use.
How the REON POCKET works
The unit sits against the body near the neck and transfers heat through its contact surface. In cooling mode it lowers the temperature of that localized area; in warming mode it raises it. The effect is concentrated where the device touches you, rather than being distributed through a room or over your entire body.
That distinction matters when interpreting the common “wearable air conditioner” label. The REON POCKET is closer to a battery-powered thermal plate worn under clothing than to a miniature HVAC system. It cannot lower the ambient temperature of a room.

REON POCKET 6: what the 2°C claim means
Sony Thermo Technology Inc. reports that the REON POCKET 6 can achieve a cooling or warming surface temperature up to 2°C lower than the previous RNP-5 model. This is a manufacturer test result, not an independent review measurement.
The comparison used a 35°C room, a resting user, strong-cooling mode (or the corresponding SMART COOL/SMART COOL⇔WARM strong-cooling setting), and the lowest cooling-surface temperature recorded after 10 minutes. Sony states that results vary with conditions and use. The figure therefore does not mean the device lowers room temperature by 2°C, nor that every wearer will experience that reduction.

REON POCKET PRO Plus: longer-use flagship
The PRO Plus adds an adjustable airflow component, a redesigned adaptive neckband and a dual-module cooling mechanism. These are design features described by Sony; they should not be treated as guarantees of a particular comfort level or cooling result.
Battery estimate
Sony Electronics estimates up to 15 hours in SMART COOL. The estimate uses initial settings, a 30°C indoor environment and a resting user. Actual operating time changes with temperature, mode, settings and activity, and Sony cautions that battery capacity declines as the battery ages.

Automatic temperature changes
The PRO Plus can use SMART COOL⇔WARM to switch automatically in response to environmental conditions, but that function requires the separately sold REON POCKET TAG unless a bundle explicitly includes one. Check the exact package and model compatibility before buying.
App, buttons and accessory requirements
The REON POCKET app is a dedicated Android and iOS smartphone app. Sony says it is not offered for computers or other app stores. The U.S. app listing includes English, Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and Traditional Chinese. Supported phone models, operating-system versions and regional access can change, so verify them for your country before purchase.

App version 2.3.0, announced in June 2026, applies to RNPK-P1, RNPK-P1P and RNPK-6. It allows temperature preferences for SMART COOL, SMART WARM and automatic COOL⇔WARM modes to be adjusted with the device buttons. That update does not establish identical features for every REON POCKET generation.
REON POCKET TAG
TAG is a separate wearable sensor that measures ambient temperature and humidity. It is required for the PRO Plus’s automatic SMART COOL⇔WARM switching. Confirm whether it is included in the selected bundle.

PRO Plus neckband
Sony says existing REON POCKET PRO owners can update the app and use a separately sold PRO Plus neckband to access the upgraded experience. Confirm the precise neckband model and compatibility rather than assuming every earlier unit supports it.

Sony’s May 9, 2025 notice discontinued MY mode and FAN mode in the updated app for RNP-5, RNP-4, RNP-3, RNP-2, RNP-1A and RNP-1. Older reviews, videos and marketplace descriptions may therefore list controls that are no longer available through the current app.
Which model fits which use?
Choose REON POCKET 6 if:
- You want the smaller, commuting-oriented 2026 model.
- You mainly need localized cooling or warming rather than the PRO Plus’s longer-use positioning.
- You are satisfied with the controls and accessories supported by RNPK-6.
Choose PRO Plus if:
- You prioritize Sony’s longest published SMART COOL estimate.
- You want automatic COOL⇔WARM switching and are prepared to obtain a compatible TAG.
- You prefer the flagship’s redesigned neckband and dual-module design.
Before ordering
- Check local availability, because Sony’s market listings and bundles differ by country.
- Confirm whether TAG, a neckband or other accessories are included.
- Check current Android/iOS compatibility and app availability in your region.
- Treat the 2°C and 15-hour figures as Sony’s test claims and estimates, not independent guarantees.
Availability and expectations
Sony announced both 2026 models on May 12, 2026. Sony’s support pages link to Amazon Japan, but that does not establish stock, pricing or availability in another country. Marketplace listings can also combine different generations or accessory bundles, so verify the model code and contents before purchase.
No independently published controlled comparison is established here. The measurable figures above are manufacturer-published specifications, and real-world comfort will depend on clothing, ambient conditions, activity, fit and battery age.
