The Paulin Mara is the Glasgow-based watch brand’s first dive watch, introduced in August 2025. Its graphic dial brings Paulin’s distinctive typography and colour sensibility to a diver with a 30 ATM water-resistance rating. Paulin’s current UK collection lists Mara Black and Mara Blue at £1,110 each; the detailed specifications below are from the official Mara Blue listing.
What is the Paulin Mara?
The Mara is a design-led dive watch developed by Paulin, a Glasgow-based watch brand. Paulin says the name comes from a Scots Gaelic word meaning “of the sea.” Its dial combines geometric markers, Super-LumiNova and the brand’s bespoke “Wim” typeface, set on a lacquered brass dial.
The project began with a 2023 conversation between Paulin and journalist, diver and adventurer Jason Heaton about what makes a useful watch for the water. Paulin says Heaton later advised during sampling. The brand’s development account describes testing lume applications and dial-print contrasts, since some colours affected lume tones and underwater clarity. Paulin says the final combinations were chosen to balance appearance in daylight with visibility as light fades.
Paulin also says the watch went on a multi-day Outer Hebrides trip in May 2025 involving hiking, snorkelling and diving. That is the maker’s development account, not independent certification or a controlled test of its water-resistance rating.

Is the Paulin Mara a dive watch?
Yes. Paulin’s current Mara Blue listing specifies 30 ATM water resistance, a unidirectional 120-click bezel and a screw-down crown. Monochrome’s August 2025 launch coverage expresses the rating as 300 metres. These are published specifications; they should not be read as a recommendation to expose a watch to water without regard to its condition, service history or the activity involved.
The case is 316L stainless steel. A double-domed sapphire crystal has three anti-reflective layers, and the domed sapphire bezel has lume on its underside, according to Paulin’s specification. The brand’s emphasis on contrast and legibility is central to the design, rather than an attempt to hide the Mara’s graphic identity behind a conventional-looking tool-watch dial.

What are the Paulin Mara’s size and specifications?
These detailed measurements are from the official Mara Blue listing, so they should not automatically be assumed to establish every specification for Mara Black.

Diameter alone does not determine how a watch wears: the 48 mm lug-to-lug measurement and strap shape also matter. In its hands-on account, Hodinkee’s reviewer found the case well-proportioned but thought the custom rubber strap flared more than preferred, and switched to the fabric strap. That is one reviewer’s fit experience, not a universal assessment.

What movement is in the Paulin Mara?
The current official Mara Blue listing names a Swiss-made La Joux-Perret G101. The available listing establishes that specification for Blue; it does not establish whether movement choices vary by colourway.
Does the Paulin Mara come with two straps?
Yes. Paulin includes a custom injection-moulded rubber strap and a fabric strap made from recycled fishing nets, lined with Italian Alcantara faux suede. Both are listed at 20 mm. The rubber strap has a custom moulded form at the case end, so a generic 20 mm replacement strap should not be assumed to fit flush without checking its end shape and compatibility.

Which Paulin Mara versions are available, and what do they cost?
Paulin’s current UK collection lists two versions, Mara Black and Mara Blue, at £1,110 each. The collection establishes the colour options and listed prices; the detailed product specifications cited here are for Blue, and variant-specific differences beyond colour are not established.
For context, Monochrome reported a launch on 22 August 2025 at GBP 1,200 or USD 1,650, excluding taxes. Those are launch-era figures, not the current UK listed price. Paulin notes that orders outside the UK may be subject to customs and taxes; destination charges and current prices in other regions are not established here.
