Yes—if you want the Omega Speedmaster-inspired design, bright color choices and easy quartz ownership at Swatch pricing. It is a weaker purchase if you need a highly durable daily beater, an investment, or a substitute for a mechanical Omega Speedmaster. Buy new from Swatch when possible; treat resale premiums as convenience or scarcity pricing, not evidence of lasting intrinsic value.
What the MoonSwatch is—and what it is not
OMEGA and Swatch launched the collaboration in 2022 as an accessible, playful interpretation of the Speedmaster Moonwatch. It is an official Swatch product linked to Omega’s design language, not an Omega-manufactured Speedmaster and not a mechanical chronograph.
That distinction explains both its appeal and its limits. You get the Moonwatch-inspired layout, mission-themed colors and a low-maintenance quartz movement at a small fraction of the cost and complexity associated with a mechanical Omega. You do not get the same case construction, movement, finishing, water resistance or long-term horological proposition.
Is it still good value at Swatch retail?
For the right buyer, yes. Swatch’s current US collection page lists classic MoonSwatch models at $300. That price buys a recognizable design, quartz accuracy and an official collaboration rather than an unlicensed homage.

The value is primarily experiential: wearing a colorful, conversation-starting watch and enjoying the Omega connection without committing to a luxury-watch budget. If those benefits are why you want one, the retail price remains defensible in 2026.
What you are paying for
- Official OMEGA x Swatch branding and Speedmaster-inspired styling.
- A quartz watch that needs no winding and is simple to live with.
- A range of mission and color variants, subject to store availability.
- Swatch’s Bioceramic case material.
What you are not paying for
- A mechanical Omega movement or traditional watchmaking finishing.
- Luxury-level scratch resistance or robustness.
- Guaranteed investment performance.
- Broad, unrestricted availability of every special edition.
How the material and specification affect ownership
Swatch Group describes Bioceramic as “a unique mix of two-thirds ceramic and one-third biosourced materials produced from castor oil.” The material gives the watch its light feel and distinctive finish, but the specification should not be read as a promise of scratch-proof everyday wear.

The cited Moonphase specification is quartz with 3-bar water resistance. That is suitable for ordinary splashes and careful daily use, not a license for swimming, diving or exposing the watch to sustained water pressure. Keep the crown and pushers protected from water and follow Swatch’s care guidance for your specific model.
Crystal and daily-wear expectations
Long-term durability data are limited. A 2024 owner video documenting six months of daily wear reports acrylic-crystal scratches, comfortable wear, regular chronograph use and strap changes. It is useful practical experience, but it is one anecdotal report—not controlled testing and not a defect rate.

In practical terms, expect the crystal to show marks sooner than a sapphire crystal would. That is acceptable if you like the design and can live with cosmetic wear; it is a poor match if an unmarked watch is a priority.

Buying used can make sense when a particular color is unavailable locally or when the discount is meaningful. It is harder to justify paying substantially above Swatch’s retail price for a watch whose core appeal is accessible design.
Used-watch checks before paying
- Ask for clear photographs of the crystal, caseback, crown, pushers and strap.
- Confirm that the hands reset correctly and that the chronograph starts, stops and resets cleanly.
- Verify the model name, purchase evidence and any remaining warranty coverage.
- Use a payment method and marketplace with meaningful buyer protection.
- Compare the total cost with current official retail, including shipping and fees.
Special editions and availability
Availability is not uniform. Swatch sells through selected stores, and limited releases can have narrow purchase windows. For example, Swatch stated that Mission to the Super Blue Moonphase was sold from 1 to 19 August 2024. A discontinued or time-limited model can therefore command a premium simply because it is harder to obtain—not because its movement or materials became more valuable.
Check the current Swatch collection and your local store before assuming a model is permanently unavailable. Regional stock, release rules and prices can differ.

Moonphase models: worth the extra cost?
Swatch lists Moonphase models at $320 in the cited pricing. The additional function and appearance may be worthwhile if the moonphase display is the reason you want that variant. It does not change the basic ownership proposition: the watch remains a quartz Swatch collaboration with the same need for realistic expectations about water resistance, scratches and resale.
Do not confuse a reseller’s $679 asking price for Mission to the Moonphase with its original retail price. Swatch’s product page labels that figure as reseller pricing.
Should you replace the strap?
Yes, if the supplied strap is uncomfortable or you want a different look; no, if you are satisfied with it. Swatch’s US collection page lists MoonSwatch rubber straps at $48. Third-party options may cost less, but fit and quality vary.
Check the exact lug width, spring-bar arrangement and model compatibility before ordering. A strap advertised as “MoonSwatch-compatible” is not automatically guaranteed to fit every variant. Replacing the strap is a comfort or style upgrade, not a way to improve the case, crystal or movement.

Who should buy one in 2026?
Buy at official retail if you:
- Want the Omega-linked design and colorful case more than luxury finishing.
- Prefer quartz convenience and low maintenance.
- Can accept 3-bar water resistance and a crystal that may scratch.
- Plan to keep and wear the watch rather than speculate on resale.
Skip it or choose another watch if you:
- Need a mechanical movement or a true Omega Speedmaster.
- Demand sapphire-level scratch resistance or higher water resistance.
- Are considering it mainly because a reseller claims it will appreciate.
- Would have to pay a large premium over current Swatch retail.
Verdict
More than two years after launch, the MoonSwatch still earns a recommendation as a fun, officially licensed, quartz design watch at Swatch’s retail price. Its case material, 3-bar rating, acrylic-crystal wear potential and uncertain resale market make it a lifestyle purchase rather than an investment or rugged tool. Start with Swatch retail; buy used only when the condition, authenticity and total price clearly beat the convenience and security of buying new.
