Samsung’s Simple Digital, Spatial Number, and Ultra Info Board faces debuted with the Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra, then were reported as available to Galaxy Watch4, Watch5, and Watch6 owners in 2024. Getting one of these faces does not upgrade a watch to Wear OS 5: a face’s availability and the watch’s operating-system update are separate. Here’s how to check compatibility, install and customize a face, and understand why some older faces may no longer be available.
Which new Galaxy Watch faces were included?
An October 3, 2024 report described three Watch7 and Watch Ultra faces being made available to older Galaxy Watch models through Samsung’s wearable ecosystem. The names and descriptions below reflect that rollout report; Samsung’s current face catalog can change, and availability is not guaranteed on every model or in every region. (Android Headlines, October 3, 2024)
| Face | Good fit for | Reported style |
|---|---|---|
| Simple Digital | Readers who prefer a minimal display | Clean digital presentation |
| Spatial Number | Readers who like a more traditional look | Analog-style design |
| Ultra Info Board | Readers who want more information at a glance | Dense layout for multiple data points and complications |
The original report described options for colors, styles, widgets, and complications, but controls vary by face. Samsung notes that some faces offer only limited adjustments, and some cannot be customized. (Samsung support)
Which Galaxy Watches can use Wear OS faces?
The 2024 rollout was reported for the Galaxy Watch4, Watch5, and Watch6 families. That includes the Watch4 Classic, Watch5 Pro, and Watch6 Classic. The Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra were the models on which the faces originally debuted. Whether a specific face appears for your watch can depend on its model, software, country, phone, and store or account configuration.

- Older Tizen Galaxy Watches: Models released before Watch4 use a different operating system and watch-face ecosystem; they are not part of this Wear OS 5 face rollout.
For setup and management, these watches require a compatible Android phone and the Galaxy Wearable app. Samsung lists Android 6.0 or later, at least 1.5 GB of RAM, and Google Mobile Services for the referenced Wear OS models; requirements can vary by model and market. The Watch4 and Watch5 cannot be set up as standalone watches. (Samsung support)
Does getting a face mean your watch has Wear OS 5?
No. A watch face is separate from the operating system installed on the watch. The 2024 report described older Galaxy Watch owners gaining access to the faces before receiving the complete Wear OS 5 and One UI Watch 6 update. Installing a face therefore does not install that system update. (Android Headlines, October 3, 2024)

There is also a distinction between a face being compatible with an operating-system version and being distributed through Galaxy Wearable or Google Play. A compatible face may be listed in a store without the watch running the newest OS; conversely, an OS update does not guarantee that every older face remains installable.
Watch Face Format (WFF), a declarative format developed with Samsung, is now central to compatibility. As of January 2026, WFF is required to install watch faces on Wear OS devices. The Android Developers documentation maps WFF versions as follows: WFF 1 to Wear OS 4/API 33, WFF 2 to Wear OS 5/API 34, WFF 3 to Wear OS 5.1/API 35, and WFF 4 to Wear OS 6/API 36. Install a face from Galaxy Wearable
- Install or update Galaxy Wearable on a compatible Android phone, then pair the watch and confirm it is connected.
- Open Galaxy Wearable and tap Watch faces.
- Browse the available faces and select one. Depending on the app version, additional faces may appear under Get more watch faces, a store section, or a featured listing.
- Tap the download, install, or apply control shown for that face and follow any store prompts.
Samsung documents more than one route as the app’s labels and layout vary. In some versions, the route may be Store → Explore Wear OS watch faces; it is not a universal label for every model or software version. (Samsung support; Samsung support: exploring Wear OS faces)
Install a face directly on the watch
- Touch and hold the active watch face.
- Swipe through the face carousel and tap Add watch face to select an available face.
- To browse beyond the faces already shown, touch and hold the face again, swipe to the end of the list, then tap More watch faces.
- Open the relevant Play Store listing and tap Install.
Exact labels may vary. Samsung documents this method for Wear OS Galaxy Watch models, including the Watch4, Watch5, and Watch6 families. (Samsung support)

Customize the face and its complications
Try customization from the phone first: open Galaxy Wearable → Watch faces, select the face, and tap Customize if that control is available. Adjust the options shown, then save or apply. Depending on the face, settings may include colors, backgrounds, hands, widgets, or complications.
On the watch, touch and hold the active face, select the face, and tap Customize if it appears. Change the available settings and press the Home/Power key to finish. A missing Customize control is not necessarily a fault: customization differs from face to face. (Samsung support)

A complication is an information slot on a watch face. Depending on the face’s design and available providers, it may display steps, heart rate, weather, calendar events, battery, workout data, notifications, or information from an app. Neither every face nor every complication provider supports every option.
Why might an older watch face be missing or fail?
Some legacy faces were built for an older format and may no longer appear in Play Store search or be available to install. Samsung says Google Play policy changes restrict faces that do not support the latest Watch Face Format; its troubleshooting guidance recommends choosing another face if an older one is unavailable. A previous purchase does not override a compatibility requirement if the developer has not updated the face. (Samsung troubleshooting; Android Developers: Watch Face Format)
- Missing from search: The listing may have been removed, may not support the required format, or may not be available for your model or region.
- Visible but unavailable to install: Check the listing’s compatibility details and whether the watch software supports the face.
- Installed on the phone but absent from the watch: Confirm the watch is connected, check the listing for a watch component, and verify that phone and watch use the relevant Google or Samsung account.
- Installs but will not apply: Check compatibility and update the watch software; an older face may not support the installed Wear OS version.
- Customization is missing: The face may not provide editable settings, or may expose fewer controls than another face.
Troubleshoot faces that do not appear
- Update Galaxy Wearable and the watch software.
- Confirm the watch is paired and connected, then reopen Galaxy Wearable.
- Check Watch faces and any available store or featured-face section.
- Search for the face from the Play Store on the watch and inspect its compatibility information.
- If the watch and phone are connected but the face still does not appear, restart both devices and check whether the listing is restricted by model, software version, region, or account configuration.
These checks can identify common causes, but they cannot restore a face that is no longer listed or does not meet the format requirements. In that case, look for a WFF-compatible update from the face’s developer or choose another listing.
How to choose among the three designs
- For a minimal display: Start with Simple Digital.
- For a traditional appearance: Try Spatial Number.
- For more on-screen data: Consider Ultra Info Board, then check whether its layout stays readable at a glance.
- For workouts or health information: Look for a layout with the specific complications you use; availability depends on the face and its providers.
- For accessibility: Check numeral size, contrast, color choices, and legibility in ambient mode before settling on a face.
Do not assume a simpler-looking face will necessarily save more battery. Battery use can depend on complications, animations, refresh behavior, and always-on display settings; the cited sources do not establish a battery comparison among these three faces.

Usually not. If you already own a Watch4, Watch5, or Watch6, first check whether the face is available for your model. The 2024 rollout reported access for those generations, although current listings can vary. A Watch7 or Ultra makes more sense as an upgrade when you also want newer hardware or other model-specific features—not simply because the featured faces debuted there.
