A newer reference, HAB007J1, appears in Seiko’s UK store with an October 1, 2026 release date. The 5X83 combines GPS time and time-zone adjustment, dual time and a 1/20-second chronograph; the models differ mainly in finish, dial details and size.
Which Seiko Astron 5X83 models are available?
The four references in Seiko’s March 12, 2025 introduction were scheduled for May 2025 availability in Europe. Seiko’s official UK store also lists HAB007J1, a later 5X83 model. Its listed price and release date are specific to that UK listing, not a guide to pricing or stock in other markets.

What does the 5X83 movement do?
GPS time and time-zone adjustment
The movement uses light as its energy source and can connect to GPS automatically or by manual request. Seiko says it “automatically connects up to twice per day to the GPS network.” That is an upper frequency, not a guarantee of reception or adjustment in every location and condition. Seiko also says manual selection may be needed after a change of region, time zone or daylight-saving-time rules.

Dual time and chronograph
The watch displays a second time with an AM/PM indication. In chronograph mode, the counter at 12 o’clock measures in 1/20-second increments, while the counter at six o’clock tracks elapsed time up to 12 hours.
Other timekeeping functions

- Perpetual calendar correct through 2100.
- Signal-reception result indication and power-save function.
Without GPS reception, Seiko specifies accuracy of ±15 seconds per month when the watch is operated between 5°C and 35°C. This is the manufacturer’s stated specification under those conditions, rather than a GPS-reception accuracy figure.

How do the 2025 models differ in construction and design?
Seiko describes the 2025 models as having a titanium bezel with a sapphire crystal insert, a dual-curved sapphire crystal with super-clear coating and a multi-row bracelet. Its design description notes horizontal striping on the main dial and diamond-cut markers on the sub-dials at 12 and six o’clock. The materials and finishes vary by reference: SSH175 and SSH177 use titanium with super-hard coating; SSH179 has black super-hard coating; and SSH180 adds ceramic bracelet center links.
Seiko’s published specifications for the 2025 group include 10 bar water resistance and 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance. These are specification figures, not a recommendation for any particular water-based activity or magnetic environment; follow Seiko’s care guidance for the watch.

- Choose by dial and finish: SSH175 is blue-gray, SSH177 gray, and SSH179 black with black coating. SSH180 pairs a navy dial with rose-gold-colored accents.
- Consider the limited edition: SSH180 is limited to 1,500 pieces and has ceramic bracelet center links; its case is slightly wider than the other 2025 references.
- Compare proportions: The 2025 models are 14.4 mm thick and at least 44.1 mm in diameter. HAB007J1 is listed at 43.2 mm by 13.4 mm, making it the smaller listed option by those measurements.
- Confirm the regional listing: HAB007J1’s £2,600 listing and October 1, 2026 release date are from Seiko’s UK store, while the 2025 euro prices were recommended launch prices for Europe.
These differences are documented specifications and design details; they do not establish how a watch will fit a particular wrist or how its dial will look in person.
