Watch publications place production around 1968–1970, though the exact dial, signature and equipment vary among surviving examples. Its two-register sibling, the 145.017, is associated with Caliber 860.
What is the Omega De Ville 145.018?
The 145.018 is a stainless-steel-era Omega chronograph reference distinguished by three subdials and manual winding. Published accounts place it around 1968–1970; Sotheby’s catalogued an individual example as circa 1968. These dates describe the reported production period, not a guarantee of the year of any particular watch. Fratello’s 1960s Omega buying guide and a Sotheby’s catalogue entry document those examples.
The name reflects a period of changing collection identity. Fratello reports that some early 145.018 dials carried Seamaster wording, sometimes alongside De Ville, and that the model became part of the separate De Ville collection in late 1968. De Ville itself is described as a separate collection from 1967 in another Fratello overview. The transition is best understood as gradual: dial signatures on an individual watch should not be assumed from the reference alone.
145.018 caliber 861: movement and sibling reference
The 145.018 is associated with Omega Caliber 861, a hand-wound chronograph movement. An Omega-calibre nomenclature document hosted by Omega Vintage lists Caliber 861 from 1968 and a rate of 21,600 beats per hour; the host is not Omega’s current official site, so treat it as a historical reference document rather than a current manufacturer specification. See the calibre nomenclature document.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The closest comparison is the two-register Omega 145.017, described by Fratello as using Caliber 860. The 145.018’s three-register layout is the most immediate visual distinction, but reference and movement should be verified on the actual watch rather than inferred from appearance.
Do not confuse this pairing with Caliber 930, which the nomenclature document lists in 1969 in connection with a De Ville chronograph having a date at nine o’clock. That is a separate calibre and model context, not evidence that the 145.018 uses Caliber 930.

Case dimensions and wearing context
Published dimensions for the 145.018 are 35 mm in diameter, 40 mm lug-to-lug, 13.5 mm thick and 19 mm between the lugs. These are reported model measurements; individual watches, replacement parts or modifications may affect what a buyer measures or what fits. Fratello reports a stainless-steel bracelet option, while Sotheby’s catalogued one example on an unsigned grey leather strap with an Omega buckle. A surviving watch need not retain either its original bracelet or strap.
Omega 145.018 dial variations
Published examples include white, gold, dark blue, grey and black dials, with some versions lacking a tachymeter track. Dial signatures are reported as De Ville, Seamaster, or both. Fratello also highlights grey-and-black styles with colored registers. These reports describe observed configurations, not proof that every variant is factory-original or period-correct.

One proposed explanation connects some colored-register designs with Omega’s timing of the 1968 Mexico Summer Olympics. That connection is collector speculation, not established manufacturer documentation. Likewise, an article’s observation about an older-style Omega dial logo and a different crown logo is an interpretation of a possible transition, not a standalone authentication test. Fratello’s 145.018 overview discusses these design details and variations.
What to check before buying a 145.018
Because dials, signatures and equipment vary, assess the specific watch rather than relying on a reference number or one visual feature. A reliable inspection should connect the case, movement and visible configuration, and establish the condition and service context.

- Reference and movement: Confirm the case reference and inspect the movement identification. Check that the documented configuration aligns with a 145.018 and Caliber 861.
- Dial and hands: Record the dial signature, tachymeter configuration, logo, hands and register details. Compare them with credible reference material; reported variation does not by itself establish originality.
- Case and condition: Assess wear, refinishing, replaced parts and whether the watch’s condition is represented clearly. Ask for clear photographs and an in-person assessment where possible.
- Operation and service: Request service documentation and have a qualified watchmaker check the movement and chronograph functions. A running watch is not, by that fact alone, evidence of recent service or correct operation.
- Included equipment: Clarify whether the bracelet, strap, buckle and other accessories are original, later replacements or simply included with the sale. For a 19 mm strap, measure the individual watch and verify strap dimensions before purchase.
- Independent review: If originality or condition materially affects the decision, arrange an independent inspection. The reported observations about logos and variants are not a complete authentication checklist.
Omega 145.018 value: what the available prices do—and do not—show
Sotheby’s listed an estimate of 42,000–60,000 HKD for a stainless-steel, grey-dial, circa-1968 145.018 with Caliber 861, 17 jewels, a screw-down case back and 35 mm diameter. The auction page gives a close date of September 19, 2026, but the accessed listing did not provide a realized price. This is one lot’s estimate, not a general market value or confirmed sale result. View the Sotheby’s lot.
A Hodinkee Shop page for a 1969 example is marked sold and showed a historical asking price of $2,800. That is an old dealer listing, not a verified transaction benchmark. It should not be averaged with the Sotheby’s estimate: the figures differ in date, currency, sale context and price type. See the archived Hodinkee listing.
