The Oris Big Crown x Cervo Volante 38mm Pointer Date combines a compact stainless-steel case, automatic pointer-date movement and a deer-leather strap. Oris currently lists the grey-dial reference 01 754 7779 4063-Set for USD 2,600 on its US site; its Netherlands site lists the green-dial 01 754 7779 4067-Set for EUR 2,250. Those are region-specific official prices, not direct currency equivalents. The original collection launched in 2022 at CHF 1,850.
What the Oris Big Crown x Cervo Volante is
This is a 38 mm version of Oris’s Big Crown Pointer Date, presented with Alpine-inspired gradient dials and Cervo Volante deer-leather straps. The original January 2022 collection offered grey, blue and green dial options. The collaboration pairs the familiar pointer-date layout with a strap made from deer skins that Oris says would otherwise have been wasted.
Rebecca Doulton’s January 2022 review for Monochrome describes the large crown, coin-edged bezel, vintage-style Arabic numerals, cathedral hands and red-tipped crescent date hand. Doulton also regarded 38 mm as a useful middle size between the 36 mm and 40 mm Big Crown Pointer Date options discussed in that article. These are the publication’s design observations, not the result of a new wearer test.

The official specifications are from the Oris US listing. The 12.5 mm thickness and 45.7 mm lug-to-lug measurement are from Rebecca Doulton’s 2022 Monochrome article, which supplies dimensions absent from that US product page. For fit, those measurements add useful context to the 38 mm diameter: the lug-to-lug span is the case’s end-to-end length across the wrist, while wrist shape and strap drape still affect how it wears.
How the Cervo Volante strap and included accessories fit the story
Oris says the strap leather comes from deer in Swiss population-control programs, whose skins had previously gone to waste; Cervo Volante uses them for leather goods. That describes Oris’s account of the sourcing model, not an independently audited lifecycle assessment. Oris’s Netherlands page states that 15,000 wild red deer are culled annually in Switzerland for population control. This is Oris’s published figure, not an independently verified current statistic.

At the 2022 collaboration announcement, each watch was described as coming with a leather travel case and card holder. Cervo Volante mentioned a watch roll separately as an accessory, so it should not be assumed to be included with the watch. The strap’s 19 mm width is useful when considering alternatives, but width alone does not establish compatibility: check the connector, clasp and quick-change arrangement for any specific replacement strap.
In the announcement, Oris chairman Ulrich Herzog said: “A mechanical watch is a sustainable product – it uses existing kinetic energy and is designed to last. Oris focuses exclusively on mechanical watches. We have not produced a quartz model with a disposable battery since 1995.” That is Herzog’s stated view, not a verified lifecycle conclusion about this watch. The collaboration announcement also quotes Oris saying it was working to improve its straps through the Cervo Volante partnership.

Review: strengths and considerations
Why the design may appeal
- The pointer-date hand makes the date part of the dial’s visual design rather than a small numeric window. Monochrome specifically notes the red-tipped crescent hand and vintage-inspired Arabic numerals.
- The three gradient dial colors and natural brown leather strap give the watch a more outdoors-oriented character than a plain steel-bracelet dress watch.
- The 38 mm diameter sits between the 36 mm and 40 mm sizes discussed in the 2022 review, offering a middle option for shoppers comparing those case diameters.
What to weigh before buying
- A 38-hour power reserve is the stated specification; it is modest compared with watches offering longer reserves, so a watch left unworn for more than that interval may need resetting.
- Five bar water resistance is a published rating, not a reason to assume suitability for every water activity. Follow Oris’s care guidance for the specific watch.
- The deer-leather strap is central to the collaboration’s look and sourcing story, but this article has no controlled durability test or independent assessment of its environmental impact.
- Color appearance in photographs can vary, and the available published material does not establish that images reproduce the blue dial—or any other dial—accurately across screens.
Warranty and service context
Oris’s US listing states a two-year warranty, with extension to three years through free MyOris registration. Check the current registration terms, deadlines and geographic applicability with Oris for the market where you buy; the US page alone does not establish identical conditions everywhere. For maintenance or service, consult Oris or an authorized service channel for the watch’s region and movement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should consider it
The 38 mm Big Crown x Cervo Volante is a plausible choice for someone who wants a mechanical watch with a distinctive pointer date, a vintage-leaning dial and a leather strap with a specific sourcing story. It is less straightforward for a buyer who prioritizes a long power reserve, a metal bracelet, or a broad assurance of water-use suitability. Before ordering, match the dial color and reference to the regional listing, then compare its published price in that market.
