Citizen’s March 2023 “Fugu” Promaster Diver Automatic trio comprises references NY0130-08E, NY0136-52L and NY0137-09A. They share the same reported automatic-diver platform, but differ in dial, case finish and bracelet or strap; Monochrome Watches reported U.S. launch prices of $550, $595 and $650, respectively. Those are historical launch prices, not current offers.
How the three Fugu references differ
Monochrome Watches identified the three models in its March 7, 2023 launch coverage. Its configurations and U.S. launch prices are:

Prices and configurations in this table reflect Monochrome Watches’ March 7, 2023 report, not verified current prices or availability. What specifications the trio share
Monochrome Watches reported a 44 mm case width and 13.1 mm case height for the three references, along with a sapphire crystal, screw-down crown and 200 m water resistance. It described a unidirectional bezel with a 60-minute scale and a black or blue aluminum insert, depending on the model.

The report identifies the movement as Citizen caliber 8204: an automatic movement with hand-winding, hacking seconds, day/date display and a reported 42-hour power reserve. These are specifications attributed to the specialist’s trio-specific launch coverage, not independent test results.
Citizen’s current product pages for related Promaster Dive Automatic models corroborate some family-level specifications, but they are not pages for these three 2023 references. Citizen lists caliber 8204, sapphire crystal, 200 m water resistance and a 44 mm case width for the NY0155-07X. Its NY0150-51A page also lists a 44 mm case width and 200 m water resistance, and specifies a 20 mm lug width for that reference. That lug-width figure does not establish strap compatibility for the three NY013 references.

Why Citizen calls the design “Fugu”
“Fugu” is Japanese for pufferfish. Citizen says the Promaster’s serrated bezel takes inspiration from the fish and describes a pufferfish engraving on the caseback. On its NY0155-07X product page, Citizen calls the serrated bezel “inspired by a fugu, the Japanese name for pufferfish.” This is the company’s design explanation, rather than an independently attributed historical account.
Monochrome Watches says the trio’s textured dials refer to intricate patterns made in sand by fugu during mating rituals. That specific explanation belongs to the launch report; it should not be mistaken for a separate biological finding.

The launch coverage places the Promaster design in a lineage that began in 1989 and identifies the 1997 NY0040 as an inspiration for the newer watches. - NY0130-08E: Choose its black-and-yellow treatment and black polyurethane strap if those are the details you prefer.
- NY0136-52L: Its deep-blue dial and stainless-steel bracelet distinguish it from the two strap-equipped versions.
- NY0137-09A: It is the option with a fully luminous white dial, black ion-plated case and blue polyurethane strap.
These distinctions support a style and hardware comparison, not a claim that one is objectively best. The launch report provides no comparative wear, timekeeping or water-resistance test results.
