Verdict: Pebble 2 Duo is worth considering if you want an always-on, highly readable e-paper watch with real buttons, exceptional endurance and a playful open-source ecosystem. It is not an Apple Watch or Garmin substitute: GPS workouts, advanced health measurements and polished mainstream integrations are outside its brief. The official product page currently lists it as sold out, so confirm inventory before planning a purchase.
What the Pebble 2 Duo is—and is not
The Pebble 2 Duo is a deliberately simple smartwatch built around the original Pebble idea: glanceable information, physical controls, low power consumption and software that a community can extend. It runs PebbleOS and handles phone notifications, music controls, alarms, timers, basic step and sleep tracking, and downloadable watchfaces and apps.
That focus is the product’s appeal. It is also the reason to avoid treating the Duo as a conventional sports watch. There is no feature-for-feature match for the GPS, training analysis, health sensors, touch-first interfaces or broad third-party support found on Apple Watch and Garmin models.
Eric Migicovsky, Pebble’s original creator, described the project as “a labour of love rather than a startup trying to sell millions of watches.” That helps set expectations: the platform is intentionally characterful and hackable, but launch software may have rough edges, missing features or breakage as it evolves.

Design, display and controls
E-paper that stays visible
The watch uses a black-and-white e-paper display designed for an always-on view and excellent daylight readability without the power demands of a conventional smartwatch panel. The current official product page lists a 1.2-inch screen; the launch specification reported by 9to5Google measured it at 1.26 inches. Both descriptions refer to the same monochrome e-paper design.
A backlight makes the screen usable in darkness, but using it more often reduces battery endurance. The case is polycarbonate and comes in black or white.
Buttons instead of a touch-first interface
Four physical buttons provide the main interaction. They are useful when your hands are wet, when gloves make swiping awkward, or when you want to operate the watch without covering its small display. A linear-resonance vibration motor handles alerts.
The hardware specification also includes a microphone and speaker, a six-axis IMU, compass and barometer. The watch uses a standard Pebble charger and accepts 22mm bands.

How long does the Pebble 2 Duo battery last?
Pebble marketed the Duo for up to 30 days on a charge in 2025. A later Pebble/RePebble production update in 2026 reported an 18-day average across all users. The 18-day figure is an observed average, not a guarantee for every setup.
| Figure | What it means | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 30 days | Claimed maximum endurance | Core Devices/Pebble launch information, 2025 |
| 18 days | Average reported across Duo users | Pebble/RePebble production update, 2026; varies by settings and watchface behavior |
Animated or frequently updating watchfaces, repeated backlight use and frequent vibration all draw more power. A static watchface and restrained alerts should move you closer to the product’s long-life design than an intensely animated configuration will.
That endurance is the Duo’s clearest advantage over mainstream smartwatches. You can leave a charger at home for extended trips, while Apple Watch models generally require much more frequent charging and Garmin’s range depends heavily on model and tracking modes.
What can it do every day?

Basic activity and sleep data
The watch tracks steps and sleep at a basic level. Those features suit someone who wants a lightweight trend view, not a clinical or training-grade analysis platform. The Duo should not be chosen for GPS route recording, advanced workout metrics or the deeper health ecosystem offered by Apple and Garmin.
PebbleOS and the community catalog
PebbleOS is open source, and the official product page advertises more than 10,000 watchfaces and apps, with companion software for iPhone and Android. Community developers can modify the operating system and build apps, giving the watch unusual personality and flexibility for its price class.
The trade-off is polish. Mainstream platforms offer larger development teams, smoother onboarding and more consistent integrations. PebbleOS rewards curiosity and experimentation rather than promising a completely frictionless experience.
Is the Pebble 2 Duo waterproof?
Pebble says every production watch is tested to 30M/3 ATM. The company describes that as suitable for brief everyday exposure such as hand washing, bathing, swimming, showering, rain, paddling and sailing.

Those activities do not make it a dive watch. Pebble explicitly warns against diving, hot water, high-pressure spray and prolonged periods submerged. Treat the rating as everyday water resistance, not permission for scuba, high-pressure water sports or extended underwater use.

| Decision axis | Pebble 2 Duo | Apple Watch | Garmin | Basic fitness tracker |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Battery endurance | Class-leading, measured in weeks | Usually measured in days | Ranges from days to weeks by model and mode | Often days to weeks, depending on model |
| Display and readability | Always-on monochrome e-paper; excellent in daylight | Bright, polished color touch display | Color or transflective displays, model dependent | Usually compact color or monochrome display |
| Input | Four physical buttons | Touchscreen and crown-based controls | Touch, buttons or both, model dependent | Usually touch or a single button |
| Health and sports depth | Steps, sleep and sensors such as compass/barometer; no GPS workout platform | Deep health, workout and safety features | Strong GPS, training and sports analysis | Basic activity and sleep features |
| Ecosystem | Open PebbleOS community with more than 10,000 watchfaces and apps | Highly polished, mature third-party ecosystem | Mature fitness ecosystem and platform support | Usually simpler, manufacturer-specific software |
Choose the Duo for readability, buttons, endurance and open software. Choose Apple Watch or Garmin when exercise tracking, health data, GPS or polished integrations are the priority. A basic tracker is the better choice if you only need inexpensive activity and sleep summaries.
What bands fit the Pebble 2 Duo?
The Duo uses standard 22mm bands, so replacement and style options are widely available. Search for a “22mm quick-release smartwatch band for Pebble 2 Duo,” then verify that the listing specifies 22mm lug width and the correct quick-release dimensions. A band being advertised as 22mm does not, by itself, confirm that its spring bars will fit every lug design.
Where can you buy the Pebble 2 Duo?
The listed launch price was $149, reported by TechCrunch and 9to5Google from Core Devices/Pebble’s 2025 launch information. The official product page currently shows the watch as sold out (checked October 1, 2026). Restock timing, shipping estimates and current regional availability therefore need to be checked immediately before ordering.
The same official page lists a 30-day manufacturing-defect warranty. Because inventory and store terms can change, confirm the current warranty wording and return conditions at checkout rather than relying on an older listing.
Who should buy it?
It is a strong fit if you want:
- An always-on display that is easy to read outdoors.
- Physical buttons and a watch that does not need daily charging.
- Notifications, music control, alarms and timers without smartwatch complexity.
- Basic steps and sleep tracking.
- Community-made watchfaces, apps and open-source experimentation.
- Standard 22mm strap compatibility.
Look elsewhere if you need:
- GPS-based runs, rides or hikes recorded from the watch.
- Advanced health measurements or detailed training analytics.
- Apple Watch- or Garmin-level app integration and support.
- A touch-first interface or a fully polished mainstream smartwatch platform.
- A watch intended for diving or prolonged underwater use.
Final verdict
Pebble 2 Duo succeeds by refusing to be everything. Its e-paper screen, buttons, weeks-long endurance and open PebbleOS ecosystem make it a delightful everyday companion for notification-focused users who value simplicity and personality. The same restraint makes it a poor replacement for an Apple Watch or Garmin. If that trade-off matches your priorities—and you can find stock—the Duo is a compelling modern return to the Pebble formula.
