Pebble Round 2 fixes the Time Round’s biggest flaws—but it is still a minimalist smartwatch

The Pebble Round 2 corrects the Time Round’s tiny usable display, short battery life and weak water protection, but it remains a deliberately limited smartwatch without GPS, NFC or heart-rate tracking.

The Pebble Round 2 is a real successor to 2015’s Pebble Time Round, but “here” needs a date qualifier. Announced on January 2, 2026 at a $199 preorder price, it entered production after delays, with Pebble’s July update projecting that roughly 14,000 preorders would finish shipping by the end of September 2026. Its larger edge-to-edge display, claimed 10–14-day battery, touchscreen, microphones and planned 30-meter water resistance address the original’s most obvious compromises. They do not turn Pebble into an Apple Watch, Garmin or full fitness tracker.

For design-conscious Pebble fans, Round 2 is the most convincing version of the round concept yet. For anyone who needs GPS, heart-rate data, payments or immediate delivery, the case is much weaker.

What Round 2 fixes from the Pebble Time Round

Original weakness Round 2 change What it means in practice
About two-day battery rating Estimated 10–14 days Far less frequent charging, though heavy use will reduce endurance
Small usable display and conspicuous bezel 1.3-inch edge-to-edge color e-paper More room for text and complications while keeping the circular shape
Limited water protection Planned 30-meter/3ATM rating More suitable for everyday splashes once certification is complete
Basic input Touchscreen, four buttons and dual microphones More flexible navigation and voice features, with platform restrictions
Minimal materials and styling Stainless-steel case in three finishes A dressier, more substantial physical design

The display is the most visible repair

The original Time Round’s circular panel left a large surrounding bezel and little practical screen area. Round 2 moves the color e-paper panel to the edge. At 260 × 260 pixels and roughly 283 ppi, it should make notifications, text and watch-face complications easier to read while preserving the original’s round identity. The improvement is visual and functional rather than a change to e-paper’s underlying behavior: it remains slower and less fluid than OLED, can show ghosting, and needs its backlight in darkness.

Its always-on character is a major part of the appeal for readers who want a watch face visible without wrist-raising. Animated faces and rapid scrolling will still be constrained by e-paper refresh behavior.

Battery life is the biggest practical repair

The original Pebble Time Round was rated for only about two days per charge, according to its support documentation. Pebble estimates 10–14 days for Round 2, a dramatic improvement if it holds in ordinary use.

  • There is no volume control, however when connected to bt calling you can control the volume of the call. 【Metal Body】- Fire-Boltt Phoenix Pro possess a metal body that is durable and long lasting, The watch gives a sleek look and gloss finish with shiny and is anti-corrosive

That number is not an independent endurance test or a guarantee. Pebble identifies the backlight, vibration, animated watch faces, frequent notifications, voice functions and health tracking as important power consumers in its July update. Conservative buyers should treat two weeks as a best-case estimate until broad owner data is available.

Water resistance is improved, but not yet a blank cheque

Pebble is targeting 30-meter or 3ATM water resistance. Its February production update described testing and certification as part of the process, so the production watch’s final certification and manual matter. A 3ATM rating generally supports routine splashes and ordinary water exposure; it should not be interpreted as unrestricted swimming or diving approval.

What Round 2 still does not do

The redesign fixes physical compromises, not Pebble’s deliberately narrow product philosophy. Launch coverage reported no built-in GPS or NFC payments, and the official announcement does not list heart-rate monitoring.

  • No GPS for route recording or location-based workouts.
  • No NFC payments.
  • No listed heart-rate sensor or comprehensive health monitoring.
  • No advanced training metrics comparable with Garmin, Apple Watch or Fitbit-class fitness products.
  • No cellular independence; it remains a phone-connected watch.

It tracks steps and sleep and handles timekeeping, notifications, customization and lightweight interaction. That makes it a minimalist smartwatch, not a replacement for a dedicated fitness watch. The omissions are documented in Android Central’s feature comparison.

Round 2 versus Pebble Time 2

Round 2 Time 2
Design Thin, circular stainless-steel watch Larger rectangular Pebble layout
Battery claim About 10–14 days Up to roughly 30 days, according to Pebble’s product information
Price on Pebble’s comparison page $199 $225
Best reason to choose it Round form, dressier case and Time Round identity Maximum endurance and a more spacious rectangular interface

Choose Round 2 if the circular stainless-steel design and smaller profile are the point of buying a Pebble. Choose Time 2 if charging as rarely as possible and having a larger rectangular interface matter more. Neither is objectively better; they prioritize different compromises. The official comparison is on Pebble’s store page.

Software, apps and platform limits

Round 2 runs PebbleOS and is intended to support Pebble’s existing library of apps and watch faces. That ecosystem is a genuine advantage over many minimalist watches, but it is also dependent on continued firmware, companion-app and community work.

What is available versus planned

  • Core experience: PebbleOS, watch faces, apps, notifications, buttons, touch, steps and sleep.
  • Platform-dependent: voice input and message replies are currently Android-focused.
  • Planned or developing: broader iOS support in the European Union, Apple HealthKit and Google Health synchronization, notification filtering, language packs and additional apps.

Do not treat roadmap items as shipping features. The July update at repebble.com is the relevant status source. Round 2 supports iOS and Android at the platform level, but individual actions can differ by operating system and region.

Production, delivery and preorder risk

Pebble’s July update said mass production was planned for the final week of July after beta and environmental testing. It also described manufacturing defects, battery-behavior checks, a cosmetic bottom-case problem and ongoing drop testing. Those details argue against calling the watch rugged or fully proven before independent testing.

Pebble expected to fulfill approximately 14,000 preorders by the end of September 2026. As of August 18, 2026, that means production had begun and beta units had circulated, but broad retail availability should not be assumed. Waiting is sensible if you need a watch immediately, want independent battery, screen or water-resistance results, or dislike staged preorder delivery. Preordering makes more sense if the $199 launch price, Pebble ecosystem and unusual round e-paper design outweigh that uncertainty.

Who should buy the Pebble Round 2?

It is a strong fit if you want

  • A slim circular watch with an always-on e-paper face.
  • Long battery life without nightly charging.
  • Physical buttons alongside optional touch input.
  • Notifications, customization, basic steps and sleep tracking rather than a phone replacement.
  • Android voice input or message replies, subject to platform support.

Wait or choose another category if you need

  • GPS, heart-rate monitoring, contactless payments or serious workout analytics.
  • Cellular service, rich OLED animation or very fast scrolling.
  • A mature, independently tested product available immediately.

For those requirements, a full-featured smartwatch or fitness-first watch is the more appropriate category. For a Pebble buyer who values style, battery life and restraint, Round 2 is the meaningful upgrade the Time Round needed.
