PINE64’s PineTime Pro is an in-development, more capable sibling to the original PineTime—not its replacement. The company has published upgraded hardware specifications, but its latest official update, dated August 18, 2026, still described demo firmware with issues to fix before a pilot batch. PINE64 has not announced a Pro release date or price. Its production pause applies to plans for more Linux devices, not PineTime: the company said the original watch’s production would continue.
What is the PineTime Pro?
PINE64 announced the PineTime Pro as a prototype at FOSDEM 2026. In its March 28 introduction, the company called it “a more powerful, more feature-rich sibling rather than a direct successor” to the original PineTime. How is PineTime Pro different from PineTime?
The specifications below are PINE64’s published design specifications, not independent performance or battery-life tests. The Pro’s larger, higher-resolution AMOLED display, GPS and expanded sensor set mark the main hardware differences.

PINE64 lists the original watch’s display as an LCD in its comparison. In a May 18, 2026 update, the company said that LCD had reached end of life and would be replaced by an essentially similar display in the next batch; that note does not describe a broader redesign. PINE64’s May 2026 update

The Pro’s specification includes blood-oxygen measurement capability, but that alone does not establish measurement accuracy or clinical suitability. No retail availability date or price appears in PINE64’s official updates cited here. The development timeline indicates progress, but not a confirmed launch:

- March 28, 2026: PINE64 introduced the Pro after its announcement at FOSDEM 2026. It reported SWD-port and flash-memory issues with prototypes and expected another hardware revision.
- May 18, 2026: PINE64 said new Pro samples had reached developers.
- August 18, 2026: PINE64 said demo firmware had basic drivers for the display, touch, motion, GPS, buttons, heart-rate sensor chip ID, charger, motor, microphone, and speaker. Issues remained to be resolved before a pilot batch.

Did the RAM shortage stop PineTime production?
No. In its August 18, 2026 post, PINE64 said it had no plans to continue producing more Linux devices in the near future because of DRAM/eMMC shortages and pricing. It said any decision would depend on component pricing after mid-2027. In the same post, PINE64 explicitly said PineTime, PineVoice, and Pinecil production would continue as usual. The pause therefore should not be read as a halt to all PINE64 products—or as a statement that PineTime Pro development had been stopped. PINE64 News, August 18, 2026

The post estimated that PineNote and PineTab2 stock might last roughly three months from August 18. That was a forecast made at the time, not a current inventory count. PINE64 attributed the Linux-device decision to DRAM/eMMC availability and pricing; the post does not establish that AI demand caused the shortage. “AI bubble” is therefore not a demonstrated explanation in the cited company update.

The listing describes a 1.3-inch 240×240 IPS capacitive touchscreen, an nRF52832 with a 64 MHz Cortex-M4F, 64 KB RAM, 512 KB internal flash plus 4 MB SPI NOR flash, Bluetooth 5 Low Energy, an accelerometer, a PPG heart-rate sensor, and a built-in 170–180 mAh LiPo battery. PINE STORE cautions that developing on a sealed unit is harder because it lacks access to the low-level debug interface and recommends a development kit for development work.
