The Redmi Watch 5 was announced in China in late November 2024 alongside the Redmi K80 series, then began its international rollout in January 2025. It is a Bluetooth-connected smart fitness watch with a 2.07-inch AMOLED screen, built-in GNSS, Bluetooth calling, HyperOS and a Xiaomi-rated battery life of up to 24 days under specified light-use conditions. The global model is not a cellular/eSIM watch.
Launch date, model and availability
Redmi is Xiaomi’s value-focused sub-brand. The Watch 5’s first public debut occurred in China in late November 2024; reports from that launch also described a China-market eSIM variant. Xiaomi subsequently started selling the international configuration in January 2025. Thus, “debut” can mean the China announcement or the later global rollout, depending on the market being discussed.
| Market or status | What is established |
|---|---|
| China | Initial announcement in late November 2024; China reporting mentioned standard and eSIM variants. |
| International markets | Wider rollout began in January 2025. |
| UK and other Xiaomi regions | Official regional specification pages list the global hardware and compatibility. |
| United States | Do not infer official U.S. retail availability from Xiaomi’s global page; check a U.S.-specific store or support listing. |
| India | Contemporaneous coverage did not confirm an Indian launch, so availability should be checked locally. |
A converted China price is not a U.S. or European MSRP. Taxes, shipping, import charges, retailer margins, warranty coverage and local pricing can all change the amount. Buy through Xiaomi’s official regional store or an authorized seller when possible.

What changed from the Redmi Watch 4
The Watch 5’s most visible advances are its larger, brighter display and a stainless-steel rotating crown. It also combines built-in multi-system GNSS, Bluetooth calling and updated health algorithms in the same budget-oriented product. Heart-rate, blood-oxygen, sleep, sports and water-resistance functions were already present in some form on earlier Redmi watches, so they should be viewed as refinements rather than entirely new categories.
Design and display specifications
| Specification | Redmi Watch 5 (global configuration) |
|---|---|
| Display | 2.07-inch square AMOLED |
| Resolution and density | 432 × 514 pixels; 324 ppi |
| Refresh rate | 60Hz |
| Brightness | Up to 1,500 nits in high-brightness mode |
| Screen-to-body ratio | Advertised 82% |
| Dimensions | 47.5 × 41.1 × 11.3 mm |
| Weight | Approximately 33.5g without strap |
| Frame | Aluminum-alloy middle frame |
| Crown | Stainless-steel rotating crown |
| Colors | Obsidian Black, Silver Gray and Lavender Purple |
| Strap fit | TPU strap for approximately 135–205mm wrists |
The 2.07-inch panel gives notifications, workout metrics and watch faces more room than a typical fitness band. The 1,500-nit number is a high-brightness-mode rating, not a promise of sustained brightness in every environment. “Aluminum frame” refers to the specified middle frame, not necessarily every external component.

Battery life: 24 days is a conditional maximum
The Watch 5 has a 550mAh battery, and Xiaomi advertises up to 24 days of typical use. That figure comes from Xiaomi’s defined test setup, which disables or limits demanding functions, including continuous high-frequency health measurements and some advanced sleep and blood-oxygen features. Exercise recording and Bluetooth-call use are also limited in the test.

- A receiver-independent built-in five-system GNSS chip supports satellite positioning, for more convenient workouts without the need to bring your smartphone along.
- With the Bluetooth calling function*, dual-mic noise cancellation and 80cm* directional audio pickup, it supports an extended call range with wider coverage for clearer and more flexible communication.

Expect shorter endurance when you enable an always-on display, frequent heart-rate readings, all-day blood-oxygen monitoring, advanced sleep tracking, regular GNSS workouts, calls, many notifications or frequent screen wake-ups. GNSS and calls are particularly intensive compared with simply checking the time. The 24-day figure is therefore a manufacturer test ceiling, not a guaranteed ownership result.

Built-in GNSS
The international watch includes its own satellite receiver and lists GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou and QZSS support. It can record an outdoor route without relying entirely on a phone. The available launch information does not establish independent GPS accuracy, acquisition time in difficult environments, route-export options or turn-by-turn navigation. In cities with tall buildings, under dense trees or in crowds, real-world results require testing.
Accuracy claims and medical limits
Compared with the Redmi Watch 4, Xiaomi claims 5.2% better heart-rate accuracy and 10% better sleep-recognition accuracy. These are Xiaomi internal-laboratory comparisons, not independent clinical validation; results vary with fit, movement, skin and recording conditions. Heart-rate, oxygen, sleep and stress readings are wellness information. Xiaomi states that the watch is not intended to predict, diagnose, prevent or cure disease.
Calls, music and software
HyperOS provides notifications, widgets and watch functions through Xiaomi’s Mi Fitness app. The watch has a speaker and two microphones for Bluetooth phone calls, with Xiaomi describing wind-noise resistance. Calling requires an active smartphone connection; the global product information does not list cellular service. Xiaomi’s notes also say third-party app voice calls are not supported.

Confirmed utilities include find-my-phone, camera control, recorder, compass, flashlight, timer, alarm, weather, world clock and task widgets. Xiaomi lists more than 200 watch faces. Music can be transferred to the watch from an Android phone, but that transfer feature requires Android. The watch does not offer a Wear OS- or watchOS-style third-party app ecosystem, so notifications and built-in tools should not be confused with full smartphone-app independence.
Compatibility and setup
Xiaomi lists Android 8.0 or later and iOS 12.0 or later compatibility, Bluetooth 5.3 and the Mi Fitness app. Android and iPhone support is therefore real but not feature-identical: music transfer is specifically an Android function, and some phone integrations can vary by operating system.
- Charge the watch with the supplied magnetic cable.
- Install or update Mi Fitness and sign in or create a Xiaomi account if prompted.
- Enable Bluetooth on the phone, open Mi Fitness and start the device-add or pairing flow.
- Select Redmi Watch 5, then confirm the pairing code on both devices.
- Install any offered firmware update before judging battery life or feature behavior.
- Grant only the permissions needed for notifications, calls, location, health tracking and background synchronization.
Mi Fitness labels can change between app versions and phone operating systems, so the exact button names may differ.

The watch is rated 5ATM. That is a laboratory pressure rating commonly associated with 50 meters; it is not permission to dive to 50 meters. Xiaomi describes suitability for swimming pools, shallow-water activities and listed water sports.

China eSIM model versus the global watch
China-market reporting about an eSIM edition should not be applied to the international model. Xiaomi’s global page lists Bluetooth calling but does not list cellular or eSIM support. An imported China watch may also differ in software, language, supported services, network certification, warranty and app behavior. Verify the exact model number and regional support before buying; an imported eSIM device is not automatically compatible with a local carrier.
Should you buy the Redmi Watch 5?
It fits buyers who want
- A large, bright AMOLED display and a physical rotating crown.
- Multi-week battery potential when demanding options are restrained.
- Built-in GNSS for phone-independent outdoor workout recording.
- Bluetooth calls, broad sports tracking and Android/iPhone compatibility.
Look elsewhere if you need
- Cellular calling away from a phone.
- A large third-party app catalog, payments, advanced voice assistants or deep phone integration.
- Clinically validated health measurements or proven training analytics.
- A straightforward U.S. purchase channel when no local Xiaomi listing exists.
Alternatives and trade-offs
| Alternative | Choose it when | Trade-off versus Watch 5 |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Watch 4 | You find it substantially cheaper and do not need the Watch 5’s larger, brighter screen or newer refinements. | Older display and feature package. |
| Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro | You prefer a lighter, more compact fitness-band form factor. | Smaller 1.74-inch display and less watch-like controls and calling emphasis. |
| Amazfit model | You prioritize a particular training, app or platform feature. | Exact GPS, battery and pricing advantages depend on the specific model and market. |
| Apple Watch or Wear OS watch | You need richer apps, payments, voice assistants, deeper phone integration or cellular options. | Usually higher cost and shorter battery endurance than the Watch 5’s advertised multi-week claim. |
The practical choice depends on phone compatibility, independent GNSS, Bluetooth versus cellular calling, app ecosystem, battery expectations, health features, water protection, local warranty and accessory availability. Do not assume an Amazfit, Apple Watch or Wear OS model is better in every category without comparing the exact model and current regional price.
Bottom line
The Redmi Watch 5 is a budget smartwatch—or, more precisely, a smart fitness watch—with an unusually large AMOLED display, built-in GNSS, Bluetooth calling and a potentially long battery life. It is a strong feature fit for buyers who want those basics across Android and iPhone. It is not a substitute for a cellular Apple Watch or Wear OS watch, and its health improvements and 24-day endurance remain manufacturer claims under defined conditions. Confirm local availability, warranty and the exact global or China-market variant before purchasing.
