The models are generally less than 5 mm in diameter—smaller than half a thumbnail—and are display props, not working timepieces.
Who makes these miniature watches?
Robbie Jones is the artist behind Tiny Ass Props. His work combines theatre prop-making, digital sculpture, resin 3D printing and painstaking hand finishing. Jones has described himself as an artist and has worked as a scenographer, stage prop maker and Associate Professor of Theatre at the University of Nebraska.
“It sounds pretentious, but I’m an artist,” Jones told Time+Tide Watches in 2022. That description matters because these objects are conceived as miniature sculpture and character props rather than as reduced versions of conventional watches.
How small are the models?
Time+Tide’s 2022 profile places the models at under 5 mm wide. At that scale, a conventional watch’s dial markings, hands, bezel geometry and bracelet links cannot simply be reduced proportionally: many details would disappear or fuse together.

How the idea started
The miniature-watch project grew from Jones’s experience making theatre and film-style props. The first watch described in the reporting was commissioned for a Walter White figure from Breaking Bad. The buyer wanted the character’s TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 12, exposing a gap in the existing action-figure accessory market: figures could be highly accurate, but their watches were often missing or generic.
Hodinkee later used that collector problem to explain the appeal of Jones’s work. Once collectors saw character-specific watches at the correct visual scale, requests expanded beyond the original Walter White commission.

How a watch under 5 mm is made
1. Building the digital model
Jones begins with a digital 3D model. Time+Tide reports that a new model can take at least five days before it is ready for production. The time reflects the need to interpret reference images, separate components and decide which details can survive at miniature scale.

- 1:6 Scale
2. Enlarging details that would otherwise vanish
At normal watch size, open spaces between components are easy to see. At a few millimetres, those spaces can close during printing or become visually unreadable. Jones therefore enlarges some details so the negative space remains visible in the finished piece. The result is an optical and structural adjustment, not a mathematically perfect scale reduction.
3. Printing with 3D resin
The models are produced with 3D resins. Resin printing allows extremely fine forms, but it does not remove the need for cleanup, inspection and repair. A successful print must retain thin edges and openings without losing the silhouette that identifies the original watch.

4. Hand polishing and finishing
Wrist Enthusiast reports that Jones finishes each piece by hand using tiny silicone polishing bits. This stage refines surfaces and edges after printing and helps create the visual contrast between polished, brushed, darkened or open components.
The hardest reported example
Jones identified a fully skeletonised Breguet associated with Batman v Superman as especially difficult. Its internal layers had to be stacked inside the case while preserving the openings that make a skeleton watch recognizable. That combination of depth, alignment and fragility is more demanding than reproducing a simple solid dial.

Are Tiny Ass Props watches real or functional?
No. The reporting presents them as aesthetic replicas and action-figure props. It does not describe a working movement, winding system, battery or timekeeping function. Their purpose is visual accuracy at a scale where a normal miniature accessory would look generic or oversized.
Can you buy one for a 1:6 figure?
Tiny Ass Props is the relevant source for custom miniature-watch commissions. The documented work is commission-led rather than a verified catalog of current, ready-made stock. The Time+Tide profile reported that Jones could not accept new commissions for the following two years at that time; that was a 2022 snapshot and should not be treated as his current availability.
Before commissioning, a collector should establish the figure’s scale and wrist dimensions, the exact reference watch, the desired strap or bracelet, the finish and whether the piece is intended for a permanent display or repeated handling. Current prices, inventory, lead times and ordering terms are not established by the available reporting.
What makes the work distinctive?
- Character-specific accuracy: the watch is selected to fit a named figure or screen association rather than being a generic accessory.
- Extreme scale: models under 5 mm demand design changes so openings and fine details remain legible.
- Hybrid production: digital modeling and resin printing provide the base form, while hand polishing supplies the final surface quality.
- Display-first construction: the value is in the replica’s appearance, not in miniature timekeeping.
The bottom line for collectors
Robbie Jones of Tiny Ass Props is the artist identified in the reporting as making these exceptionally small watch replicas. His pieces fill a specific gap in 1:6-scale and character-figure collecting: a watch that looks right for the character, survives inspection at less than 5 mm, and is finished like a tiny piece of prop sculpture. They should be understood as bespoke display objects, with commission availability requiring direct confirmation from Tiny Ass Props.
