That simplicity is its strength, provided you like the size, do not need a date, and consider the listed U.S. price worthwhile.
What the Oyster Perpetual 36 is—and what “base” means
Reference 126000 is the 36 mm, three-hand Oyster Perpetual. Rolex’s product listing gives it central hours, minutes and seconds, with no date function listed. “Base” here describes that uncomplicated configuration, not a claim that the watch is lesser-built: it retains the core case, movement and water-resistance specifications Rolex publishes for the model.
Rolex specifies an Oystersteel case with a domed bezel, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and a screw-down winding crown with its Twinlock double waterproofness system. Water resistance is rated to 100 metres (330 feet). These are manufacturer specifications; they cannot establish the condition or present-day water resistance of an older or damaged individual watch. Rolex’s U.S. beige-dial product page and its silver-dial product page identify the reference and list the specifications.
Why the simple configuration can be the point
A 36 mm format without extra display clutter
The 36 mm diameter gives a clear starting point for anyone who wants a less imposing-looking watch than a larger case. Diameter alone cannot tell you how a watch will fit: the available official specifications do not establish thickness, lug-to-lug length or how it wears on a particular wrist. If fit is decisive, try the actual watch on rather than treating the case measurement as a guarantee.

Three hands, and no date to manage
The dial presents hours, minutes and seconds without a date window. That keeps the display focused and removes the need to reset a date after the watch has stopped. The trade-off is equally direct: if you rely on a watch for the date, this reference does not provide it.
Useful core specifications
Inside is Rolex calibre 3230, a self-winding mechanical movement. Rolex states precision of -2/+2 seconds per day after casing; that is the manufacturer’s specification, not a timing result from an independently tested review sample. The 100-metre rating and screw-down Twinlock crown provide substantial stated water resistance, but water use should depend on the condition and servicing history of the individual watch, not the model specification alone.

Dial choice changes the watch’s character
Rolex’s product pages surfaced for this reference include beige, silver, turquoise blue and medium blue dials. The choice matters because the case and display stay restrained while the dial supplies much of the visual personality. Check the live product listing for the particular color you want; the listed colors do not establish current stock at a retailer.
Rolex describes the beige dial as having a brass base treated with six layers of lacquer for a regular surface, then varnished and polished. For the silver dial, Rolex describes a sunray finish made by brushing outward-running grooves, with the reflected light changing with wrist position. Those are the manufacturer’s descriptions of how the finishes are made, rather than independent observations of a sample. Rolex’s medium-blue product page shows another color option.

The 2026 Jubilee-motif version is a distinct design
Rolex’s 2026 announcement introduced an Oyster Perpetual 36 dial that “revisits the Jubilee motif introduced at the end of the 1970s.” Treat that as a separate design development, not as another name for the beige dial introduced in 2025 or for the other solid-color variants. Rolex identifies the new design and calibre 3230 in its 2026 Oyster Perpetual 36 announcement; its Newsroom announcement describes the motif. Price and the value question
Rolex’s surfaced U.S. product pages list the Oyster Perpetual 36 at $6,750, as shown in pages accessed in 2026. This is a geographically specific manufacturer-listed price, not a street price or a promise of the price available in a transaction; Rolex pricing can change. Check the live Rolex page and the seller’s current terms before making a purchase.

Whether the configuration makes sense at that price depends on what you value. You are choosing the compact format, straightforward display, mechanical movement and stated water resistance, while giving up a date display. The official listing does not establish availability by dial, secondary-market pricing, or the identity and status of any marketplace seller, so verify those details directly if buying outside Rolex.

- Consider it if you want a three-hand Rolex with a 36 mm case, prefer not to have a date window, and find one of the available dial designs appealing.
- Try it on first if wrist fit or case presence is your main concern; the published diameter cannot predict fit for every wearer.
- Look for a date-equipped alternative if a date is a daily requirement. The reference 126000 listing does not include one.
- Assess the individual watch if water use matters, particularly when considering a pre-owned example; the model’s rating is not a condition report.
- Recheck the price and seller if buying: the $6,750 figure is Rolex’s listed U.S. price on pages accessed in 2026, and the pages do not prove live stock or marketplace seller authorization.
Rolex heritage, in context
Rolex describes the Oyster Perpetual as a direct descendant of the original Oyster launched in 1926, which the brand calls the first waterproof wristwatch. That is Rolex’s own account of its lineage. Rolex also describes the Oyster bracelet as a three-piece-link Oystersteel bracelet and says the 36 mm and 41 mm versions use calibre 3230. Verdict: the “base” is ace for the right priorities
The Oyster Perpetual 36 is compelling when the desired watch is a restrained, three-hand Rolex rather than a calendar-led or visually larger one. Its case size, core specifications and dial choice give the simple configuration substance; the missing date and the listed U.S. price are meaningful trade-offs, not footnotes. The best reason to choose it is that you want exactly that combination—not because a smaller case or fewer functions are automatically better.
