Samsung announced U.S. availability for the Galaxy A16 5G phone and Galaxy Fit3 fitness tracker on January 2, 2025; both went on sale January 9. Their U.S. launch prices were $199.99 and $59.99, respectively. Samsung’s advertised 50%-off Fit3 offer with an A16 5G purchase was a limited promotion that ended February 9, 2025—not a current deal.
What Samsung launched
The announcement added two separate products to Samsung’s U.S. mobile lineup: the Galaxy A16 5G, an entry-level smartphone, and the Galaxy Fit3, a lightweight fitness tracker. “Join the Samsung family” described their arrival in the U.S. portfolio, not a new combined device or a permanent bundle. Samsung said they would be sold through Samsung.com, national retailers, and carriers beginning January 9, 2025. Availability at launch does not establish present-day stock.
The U.S. announcement concerned the A16 5G specifically. Specifications, configurations, and network support can vary by region or carrier, so do not assume every product sold under an A16 name is the same U.S. model.
What the Galaxy A16 5G offers
Display and cameras
Samsung listed a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a refresh rate up to 90Hz and peak brightness of 800 nits. The display measures 6.5 inches when accounting for rounded corners. The rear camera hardware comprises a 50MP main camera, 5MP ultrawide, and 2MP macro camera; the front camera is 13MP. Those figures describe camera hardware, not a guarantee of flagship-level photo quality.

Performance, battery, and protection
The U.S. launch announcement specified an Exynos 1330 processor and a 5,000mAh battery. The phone supports 25W Super Fast Charging, but Samsung said the charger is sold separately. Its IP54 rating means dust and splash protection under Samsung’s stated laboratory conditions, including fresh-water splashes; it is not a submersion rating and does not make the phone suitable for swimming.
Software support and configuration
Samsung’s launch promise was six generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades, plus six years of security updates. That is a support commitment, not a promise of a particular final Android version or update schedule. Samsung’s launch coverage cited a 4GB RAM configuration; storage and carrier configurations should be checked for the exact U.S. SKU.
What the Galaxy Fit3 tracks—and what it is not
Design, battery, and workouts
The Fit3 has an aluminum body and a 1.6-inch display, which Samsung described as 45% wider than the previous model. Samsung rated its battery for up to 13 days; actual runtime depends on settings and use. It supports more than 100 workout types and offers over 100 preset watch faces, photo backgrounds, and replaceable bands. U.S. launch colors were Gray, Silver, and Pink Gold.

- Carrier: This phone is locked to Tracfone, which means this device can only be used on the Tracfone Wireless network. A Tracfone plan is required to activate this device. Activating is easy, upon receipt go to the Tracfone Website and select “Activate” and follow the prompts, just 3 steps.
- VIBRANT DISPLAY, SMOOTH SCROLLING – Your content looks incredible on the edge-to-edge 6.7” FHD+ Super AMOLED display. Experience silky-smooth scrolling, gaming, and video with a 90Hz refresh rate that makes every interaction fluid and responsive.
- CAPTURE LIFE IN HIGH-DEF – Snap stunning, high-resolution photos with the versatile 50MP triple-lens camera system. From breathtaking landscapes using the ultrawide lens to intricate details with the macro lens, you have the right tool for every shot.
- 5G SPEED ON A RELIABLE NETWORK – Stream movies, download files, and game at incredible speeds with 5G connectivity. Powered by an efficient octa-core processor, the Galaxy A16 is built to perform on Verizon's powerful and dependable nationwide network.
Wellness and safety features
Samsung listed step, heart-rate, stress, sleep, and blood-oxygen tracking, as well as sleep coaching and snore detection. These are wellness features, not tools for diagnosing or treating disease. Snore detection has additional setup requirements, including a compatible paired phone, Samsung Health, a Samsung account, and keeping the phone close to the user.
The tracker has IP68 and 5ATM resistance ratings. These ratings do not mean it is indestructible or appropriate for every water environment; Samsung advises rinsing and drying it after water exposure. Its Fall Detection and Emergency SOS functions are not medical-alert services. Emergency communication depends on a nearby phone and network connection, so the features do not guarantee a response.
Why it is not a full smartwatch
The Fit3 is a fitness tracker, not a cellular smartwatch or a full Galaxy Watch replacement. It does not offer the same level of smartwatch functionality. The launch announcement does not establish it as a standalone wearable for calls, advanced app use, or phone-free fitness tracking.

How the Fit3 works with the A16
The A16 is one route into Samsung’s ecosystem, not a required companion by virtue of the launch pairing. The Fit3 connects with a compatible smartphone and Samsung Health, where users can review activity, exercise, sleep, and related wellness data. Samsung said Samsung Health could be used on the A16 5G or another compatible Galaxy smartphone; the launch material does not establish identical feature support on every Android phone.
Connected features include remote camera control, media controls, mode synchronization, and Find My Phone. Some functions depend on the phone being nearby, connected, or online. Check compatibility and app requirements for the specific phone before buying; do not assume that every feature works the same way across devices.

| Product or offer | U.S. launch price or value | Timing and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy A16 5G | $199.99 | Launch price; available starting January 9, 2025 |
| Galaxy Fit3 | $59.99 | Launch price; available starting January 9, 2025 |

| Original Fit3 promotion | 50% off the Fit3 with a qualifying A16 5G purchase | Samsung.com or Samsung Shop App; January 9–February 9, 2025, while supplies lasted |
At those launch prices, half off the Fit3 would have reduced it by about $30, putting the pair at approximately $229.98 before tax. This is a calculation from the launch prices and promotion, not a current price or offer. Samsung’s terms required the qualifying phone and tracker to be purchased in the same transaction; the offer was limited to one per qualifying purchase and subject to availability. Returning or canceling the A16 could require returning the discounted Fit3 or paying its full price. Samsung’s announcement does not establish current prices, stock, or promotions.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Who should consider the pair?
Consider both if you want a budget Samsung setup
- You need an inexpensive phone and value a large AMOLED display, a 5,000mAh battery, and Samsung’s stated long software-support commitment.
- You want straightforward activity, sleep, and wellness tracking that feeds into Samsung Health.
- You do not need cellular calling, a broad smartwatch app platform, or advanced sports-watch features.
Buy the Fit3 separately if you already have a compatible phone
The tracker can be considered independently; pairing it with the A16 is not the only option. Confirm your phone’s compatibility and the features it supports before purchasing. If you need onboard GPS, richer training analytics, or a more complete smartwatch experience, a higher-end Galaxy Watch or dedicated sports watch is a more relevant category to compare. No current model pricing or direct equivalence is established here.
Skip the combination if its limits conflict with your needs
- Serious athletes who need advanced GPS or training data may outgrow the Fit3’s basic tracking focus.
- People seeking medical-grade readings or a standalone emergency-alert device should not rely on its wellness and safety features for those purposes.
- Heavy gamers and power users may need more performance than a budget phone is designed to provide.
- The A16’s IP54 protection is not swimming protection, regardless of the Fit3’s higher water-resistance ratings.
- If you already own a compatible tracker or smartwatch, buying another may duplicate features you use.
For a phone purchase, verify the exact carrier model and network compatibility. Also factor in a compatible charger, case, screen protector, and any carrier activation costs; the 25W charger was sold separately.
